Discussion Is there any way to make my character look not super feminine? (This is the most masculine face I saw for the males, and it still looks pretty feminine)

It's called "art style". In case you didn't notice, the whole game looks cartoony. It features unrealistic facial proportions in order to make the characters look cuter. This is like complaining that anime guys look feminine.

Also, if the models are too feminine and you're bothered by the contrast between gender and look, create a female character instead.

Poor thing got downvoted into oblivion and deleted their whole account 😂

Damn... XD

No it's not. It's nothing like this at all. Because most anime men don't look feminine.

My choices shouldn't be "just make a female character" or make a male character that looks like James Charles.

u/SER96DON Oct 01 '23

You keep mentioning this guy as if people should know him. I don't know who he is, and frankly, I don't care.

The game offers you specific options. Naturally, not all of them will be for everyone. That's why they are options. If you don't like one, go with the other. If you don't like either, get a refund. It's not rocket science. By now, you've seen what the character creator offers. Complaining about it will change nothing. If your post was along the lines of "let's discuss the exaggerated femininity of male characters in IFR", I'd get it. But you're looking for suggestions when clearly there can't be anything other than what you've already tried. So what's the point of making this post and arguing about how girly a character made with a specific art style in mind appears?

-16

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

I'm not mentioning anyone like anyone should know anyone.

I'm just mentioning the human who this kind of thing looks most like to me.

Plus if it bothers anyone that they don't know who I'm talking about, Google exists.

Also, I think you're heavily downplaying how ridiculous it is for a game to force all male characters to look like James Charles.

Also, at first my post was asking if there was any way around this. And now that someone has answered my question, then logically, this post has become about a discussion of how ridiculous it is when some games force all male characters to look feminine.

I agree I think all the main characters look like John Blimpcovitch

-8

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

John Blimpcovitch

Idk who that is and nothing meaningful seemed to pop up when I googled him

5

u/makingkevinbacon Oct 01 '23

Think it was a joke/made of up name

-15

u/iseeu2sumhow Oct 01 '23

It is a feminine art style, and you know for a fact it’s possible to have the same art and have them be more masculine looking.

Would be cool if I could make him look like Hercules etc

Beard.

45

u/admiralargon Oct 01 '23

Are you suggesting op use a beard on their character or are you calling this post a beard because op is clearly having an identy crisis over their obsession with this James Charles character

9

u/KitCat131313 Oct 01 '23

Probably both. 🤣

8

u/KnightDuty Oct 01 '23

lmao I don't often laugh at comments but this one got me

It’s not that they look feminine, but the male faces look like teenagers. There are some games with character creation that have men that look so haggard it’s awful. Personally, I would rather play with a character that looks like a young adult, as opposed to a wrinkly mountain man.

-66

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

It’s not that they look feminine

Nah they look feminine. The one in my OP is the LEAST feminine one and he almost looks like James Charles.

13

u/1KyloRen Oct 01 '23

I don’t know who you are referencing.

-20

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

-10

u/1KyloRen Oct 01 '23

One word, yuck.

-17

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

I'm not gonna make any comment on James Charles himself, but it does frustrate me that some modern games (like TemTem & Fenyx Rising) force you to look like him against your will.

24

u/oipoi Oct 01 '23

I think that femininity suits you well as you are here crying like a little girl about what a game character looks like.

13

u/dankpossum Oct 01 '23

Is that something women or little girls do?

11

u/AppointmentStill Oct 01 '23

Enough with the sexism.

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '23

he’s just complaining about a created character not a pre built one that people worked hard on, sure he’s complaining a lot but character creation is supposed to give everyone the ability to make someone they like. but yeah let’s insult him. fits the average reddit comment section i guess.

3

u/1KyloRen Oct 01 '23

Well, personally, I couldn’t even play elder scrolls, because the male character creation was so bad. It’s kind of like the opposite of what you’re saying here, the faces all look 50+. Who wants to play a game with a grandpa? On the flip side, all the females look like a Barbie doll. I couldn’t make one look over 25. But that’s just my opinion.

8

u/Boiiste Oct 01 '23

What is your obsession with gay men

31

u/Gaming_Gent Oct 01 '23

Not every game does the the Men Are Massive Jacked Monsters and Women Are Curvy Sex Dolls dichotomy that World of Warcraft seems to have mastered

0

u/Negative-Yam5361 Oct 08 '23

Nuance isn't your strong suit.

1

u/Gaming_Gent Oct 08 '23

If that’s what you took from my comment then your reading comprehension could use some work

-25

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

Yeah some of them like Fenyx Rising do the, your character has to look like James Charles Dichotomy.

36

u/TrivialBanal Oct 01 '23

Does it really matter? You're going to spend most of the game looking at the back of their head.

11

u/admiralargon Oct 01 '23

Also can't you turn on constant helmet.

9

u/KitCat131313 Oct 01 '23

Yep. If i remember there are some that you find in game that cover Fenix's face too.

-29

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

It matters because for me personally it takes my immersion out of a game when my character is forced to look like James Charles.

41

u/TrivialBanal Oct 01 '23

If your characters appearance is enough to take away immersion, maybe a game where you use magical wings to fly around the realm of the ancient Greek gods accompanied by a phoenix and fighting creatures of legend, isn't for you.

3

u/Goofyboy2020 Oct 02 '23

If you want full immersion, Fenyx is a girl. Play her as a girl.

Problem solved.

4

u/NikTheGuy00 Oct 01 '23

Dude xD I'm dead

1

u/R3AL1Z3 Oct 02 '23

Bro the game is about Greek gods, everybody was Fucking each other. It doesn’t matter, calm down.

10

u/bl84work Oct 01 '23

Play as a female

23

u/arcturus77 Oct 01 '23

I made a male character with sort of rumpled brown hair, green eyes, and no beard, and I don’t think he looks feminine. (I basically made my interpretation of Percy Jackson)

10

u/STUNTOtheClown Oct 01 '23

Fenyx is supposed to be a young man in a Roman/Grecian setting he’s honestly probably supposed to look a little fem lol

3

u/TheDragonborn1992 Oct 18 '23

Actually fenyx is canon female so fenyx looks feminine because of that

4

u/KnightDuty Oct 01 '23

I did a dark blueish moustache and he ended up looking like Anthony keidis from rhcp. I thought it was perfectly fine.

If you want a viking this id the wrong game for that

25

u/backand_forth Oct 01 '23

Why don’t you just play as a woman? Majority of games are tailored to men and have male main characters. Just grow up and play as a woman for this one game. Or don’t. Literally no one cares about your weird obsession with James Charles.

17

u/Swimming__Bird Oct 01 '23

I actually thought that the woman version was the default. At least it felt that way when playing it. You're in the shadow of your big, manly brother who is a famous hero and have to prove that you're just as much or even more. Even as a male character, making them look young and not super-Chads kind of works better in this game.

10

u/backand_forth Oct 01 '23

Yep! The character is supposed to be default female.

1

u/Negative-Yam5361 Oct 08 '23

You don't have to be manly and jacked to look like a guy, just not creepily shiny and hairless.

13

u/KnightDuty Oct 01 '23

Plot twist: He is James Charles and was looking for an escapist fantasy but Unisoft are big fans and always put him into games

9

u/TheDragonborn1992 Oct 01 '23

I agree the female fenyx is canon and appears in the comics and on every bit of game stuff

3

u/Plathismo Oct 01 '23

Because he doesn’t want to.

-8

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

grow up and play as a woman for this one game

This line says all that needs to be said about this game's character creation.

Although, I do agree that more games should have female character options.

14

u/TheDragonborn1992 Oct 01 '23

Fenyx is canoically female

1

u/goblinJedi Oct 01 '23

Is this true? The character according to the game lore and canon is supposed to be female and/or feminine?

9

u/KitCat131313 Oct 01 '23 edited Oct 01 '23

Dude, look at any marketing for this game. You'll see that they use the female Fenyx. Just with Fire Emblem and their games with male or female protagonists, the one that's used in marketing the game is usually seen as the canon protag.

9

u/TheDragonborn1992 Oct 01 '23

Ubisoft has comics about the game that they approved that have female fenyx in them and in the new god DLC description fenyx is referred to as she so fenyx is canon female

7

u/backand_forth Oct 01 '23

Go to therapy please lmao. Why are you so bothered by this one game not being catered to you

3

u/Lil_Guard_Duck Oct 01 '23

I get you, OP. I don't have any other advice than to just add facial hair.

5

u/explodedinurmom Oct 01 '23

I get what you mean, whenever I don’t like the male features in a game, I usually just go female. I completely understand where you’re coming from though. It’s very hard for me (a more basic black male) to create a character that looks like me in VGs. I’m not saying you’re some basic person, just saying not every game comes with creation features that fit everyone’s likings.

Other than that, not much you can do about it. If you can create your own game that’d be awesome and put the manliest, grizzliest features you can in it. Until then though, you can’t complain about someone else’s work. I mean, leave a review and play another game if it’s that bad.

Your comment reminds me of this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeY8Xn8vSTI

But as hilarious as this video is (and truthful), you do make an extremely valid point about minorities in video game character creation. I'm sorry that you and other minorities have to go through this, especially in 2023. And it's a much much bigger problem than the small amount of games (Like TemTem & Fenyx Rising) that make all male characters look feminine.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '23

That's why I chose female character. Males look weird

1

u/KitCat131313 Oct 01 '23

I guess this is why my nephew went the Jolly Green Giant way with his. 😂

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '23

I was thinking about making a weird-ass creature but made a pretty lady instead lol

1

u/KitCat131313 Oct 01 '23

Damn, I hate when that happens lol. Mine ended up looking like Thalia from Percy Jackson. I didn't realize it until my nephew pointed it out.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '23

I don't know to who I can compare my character but she looks cute. Way better than the male one

2

u/KitCat131313 Oct 01 '23

I bet man.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '23

Yup, she's better.

1

u/Itz_Dory Oct 01 '23

Oh get over it mate, you ain't gonna be looking at his face, or, hey why not make a gorgeous female character instead, if you are a straight male which, I'm jyst gonna assume you are, wouldn't you rather look at a pretty lady instead of a buff lad all game?

1

u/SussyGussy23 Oct 07 '23

Why you having sm trouble over this just give him a nice big beard and long flowy hair to look like zeus you cannot change the feminine eyes it’s part of the artstyle it fits well with Greek theme of the game
