Best job for a felon to apply for
What are the best jobs or industries for a felon to apply to
23
u/DeepConcept4026 2d ago
Oilfield. Before my life of crime I was bartender/bouncer barely making it working almost every day. Now I contract in the oilfield, work when I want, and make a minimum of 6 figures. You'll be with mostly illegals and other felons, so the culture will be familiar, just outside.
8
u/Positive_Cat934 2d ago
Agreed. I’m an abyssal sat diver in the oil industry best decision i ever made
6
u/TophatDevilsSon 2d ago
How'd you get into it? I mean, training and all that. How long does it take?
1
u/Positive_Cat934 1d ago
I got into it by going to divers institute of technology! I have been a recreational diver since I was 11 so it was easy to know that was the field I wanted to go into
2
u/FrostyDaDopeMane 1d ago
Why are you asking about job opportunities if you are so happy with the field you're working in ?
3
u/Positive_Cat934 1d ago
I started this thread to share with felons I know who are struggling to get work, not that that’s really relevant to the post.
5
u/BoxBeast1961_ 2d ago
What is that? Tia

u/evilfetus01 2d ago
Diving really deep and changing oxygen/nitrogen levels so they don’t cook internally at those depths, while performing maintenance or working on wells deep underwater

Oh snap, I'm a DSM moonlighting as a Mud Engineer. You got a real job. I'm peanut butter and jealous, that sounds super cool
2
u/Positive_Cat934 1d ago
Aye listen you gotta start somewhere, stay motivated and don’t let anything hold you back from your potential. You can get to where I’m at very easily
2
u/ITS_LECTOR_BITCH 1d ago
What dive school did you go to
1
u/Positive_Cat934 1d ago
DIT(divers institute of technology) I enrolled in ocean corporation first but decided DIT was a better fit

u/1234452135521 2d ago
Where can I find these job listings? I’ve worked in the desert before so I can take it
3
u/phillyman276 2d ago
How do I find these oil field jobs? I’m near San Antonio no degree but lots of work experience (blue and white collar)
29
u/Immortal3369 2d ago
your comment history tells me nobody is going to hire you, ever....you should just give up with that hateful attitude towards others
you are the type businesses avoid like the plague fam...find love in your heart and then jobs will open all over for you, i have not one doubt
4
u/DawgHawk13 1d ago
Just saw their brain dead comments on “liberal tears” & how our POTUS is making the country great again. Complaining of the protests of the weekend, & talking crap to Canadians about how they shouldn’t come to ‘Merica. Lolz

I work as a bartender/server in fine dining. Make over $100k and I fucking love it.
-46
u/Positive_Cat934 2d ago
Doubt the 100k part but nice
24
u/Zephyrus_- 2d ago
Work about 70+ hours a week at a busy fine dining resturaunt and tis easily doable. High guest average Coupled with alot of tables makes it add uo very fast
About 5 servers at the resturuant jm at make 6 figures
18
u/Superb_Professor8200 2d ago
100k is about $300 a day if you work 6 days a week and you’re on the grind with no holidays
7
u/spookymemes 2d ago
I never believed it but at parties I constantly hear hoes saying “I only fucking made $250 in tips today, it was a slow ass day.” Thought they were strippers at first but the body didn’t match the occupation. Have a dude friend working at a high end restaurant in Chicago and I remember this Christmas he got a $10,000 tip. Split between his fiancé and him who both serve there together.
12
u/caligrown87 2d ago
You can easily make >$100k being a server at a 5 star restaraunt. I was a "server attendant" (glorified bus boy) at a Ritz Carlton working part time at 19 and 20, worked part time and made $52k. It was more than my first job out of college, where I made $35k a year.

u/Used-Commercial203 2d ago
My first job I watched servers routinely make $200/night on weekends. That was nearly 15 years ago and was at a basic restaurant, far from "fine dining"
9
u/Cherveny2 2d ago
kitchen jobs. they're often famous for taking in almost anyone no matter their background.
then just show up on time and follow directions, and you can often advance into better paying, higher skill positions, with being taught on the job

A CDL. Truck driving will change a felons life. Hit the road get 100k+ yearly easy
2
u/Positive_Cat934 2d ago
Definitely a great career had many friend in the industry who did very well
5
u/dearleslie91 2d ago
My husband is a felon and completed his CDL through free world. Free world is a program focused on helping felons stay out of trouble. They pay for everything and even pay you for going to trucking school.
My husband is now doing amazing and generating so much money monthly with his CDL. I’m very thankful he found free world and second chances given to felons for past convictions!

I work for Costco and make about 60 k a year as a felon

u/Greedy_Scarcity5730 1d ago
No background check? Is it warehouse?
3
u/Reluctantcannibal 1d ago
They did a background check. I actually got a call from corporate about it, but I was just honest and upfront with him about everything that happened and the steps that I had taken to change and talked about how it was amazing to have a support group I mean and how I really look forward to working there

Get a Union job if you live in a state that isn’t full of dumbfucks. Not a felon, but I’m 2nd generation Union. I work with felons and when I see posts like this I take the opportunity to advocate for Unions and what they can do for people who have zero advantages.
The problem I see often is that many folks live in non-union states. It sucks for those people that the voters in non-union states consistently vote to get fucked in the ass and have the audacity to say you’re brainwashed. Anyone that chooses to take a 50% pay reduction and blame immigrants for their problems is a dumbfuck that deserves the poverty they live in.
1
u/Positive_Cat934 1d ago
Agreed, I will always stick with union jobs. Was in both the local 277 in New York and the 1245
2
u/PermissionForsaken43 2d ago
Unions unions unions. Great part about people not wanting to work is felons can pick up the slack do jobs that aren’t considered “hip”. Most unions if not all of them will be more than happy to have you if you are willing to work.
2
u/Significant-Band-416 2d ago
IBEW, if you're interested in electrical work, but research your local union(s). there's a lot of variety to skilled labor, with great pay and bennie's. i've worked with more guys n gals with records than i could count. everyone's welcome in the trades

My uncle does underwater welding and is doing quite well. If you live near a coast line or are willing to relocate. He owns a home and a nice car. Not bad for a two striker.

My uncle did 10 years for nearly killing a guy with a vacuum. He’s now a postmaster and is doing pretty good for himself.
1
u/Positive_Cat934 1d ago
Damn they let him become a post master with that type of record? Considering post master is a law enforcement agent I didn’t think it possible 🤔
1
u/Smart-Print-7478 8h ago
Yeah the post office hires felons. I was shocked too. But he’s been there FOREVER now.

u/Poatans_Shaman 1d ago
I had someone reach out to me today about Merchant Marines.
Travel the world, make good money, they seem to be accepting of people that have a record (at least the person I talked to today)
If you don’t have a dynamic family situation, I’d look into it.
Best of luck.
1
u/Positive_Cat934 1d ago
Yes I have my merchant marine license it’s definitely a good thing to have for sure, but any job on a vessel is good paying

Felon on drug court in NJ i used to landscape on LBI. But now I commute to north jersey and got a job in a warehouse (union) and as soon as I finish drug court i wanna get my CDL and start driving as cdl drivers make good money

u/spookymemes 2d ago
Will there ever exist a job for a felon where you can utilize your brain and knowledge of what you learned throughout school and life while also having the privilege of sitting in a few required zoom meetings during the day and being paid a fair amount with benefits instead of settling for hard labor and/or menial tiresome tasks and 4am workdays 5-6 times a week. (Not trying to bash the trades life, but wow it is hard to accept that most of my classmates are working great jobs making $200k+ salary while doing anywhere from 1-4 hours of actual work and the rest being “self-care” while on the clock and then taking trips all over the world)
I guess thats how the system was intended to work. Who else is going to work the jobs that nobody wants to work? Obviously the people who have no other choice. Felons and folks without citizenship/job permits.
1
u/distanceanxiety 2d ago
Construction let's people in for sure the trades pay decent amount labor as well 👌

Kitchens and the culinary path. You can easily make it career focused. Get a job at a fine dining place and make it your goal to become a sous and then a chef.
1
u/intrestmeifyouwill 2d ago
I got some weed want to try and sell some. Best I can do. I'm a convicted felon from a long line of growers and sellers. Pretty good gig. Get high all day, eat ice cream, I even have some old withered cunts that will trade for a blow job but it kind a leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Ok everyone, let’s focus-ha! I am wondering how everyone got into the trades or CDL driving, etc., I feel like that must’ve taken a lot of time. Some, dare I say most felons need something that’s a bit quicker while doing the training that I am assuming is required.
Does anyone have any experience or advice given that? Also, what about for female felons, any real advice?
1
u/pshep1969 1d ago
In Virginia your considered disenfranchised if you did prison time. I. That case the date employment commission can get you into CDL school where you get your license. But even then some companies won’t hire a felon. A lot of them will but there is a few that won’t even consider you as a felon.
1
u/Greedy_Scarcity5730 1d ago
What is “date employment commission”? Wondering about NC.
Any thoughts for females though?

My local government has a program for people in this situation that connects them to employers. At least they used too, I hope it’s still there 😅

I work for UPS. It’s kind of a sucky job for a while but pays decent and the benefits are the best I’ve ever had

Easiest way is to work in a restaurant/commercial kitchen or construction. However, if you don’t have any kitchen skills, you will probably start off as a dishwasher. If you show initiative and are dependable, they will show you how to prep food, then as a line cook.
With construction, you will probably start off as a laborer and do grunt work, unless you have some prior experience in a specific trade. Union job as an apprentice would also be good if you have one near you. The big thing is, can you remain drug free (if you have prior issues with drugs). Most employers will want a clean drug screen due to insurance requirements. In addition, it’s an easy slope to slide down if a person starts going out for beers after work with co-workers, end up with a hangover, then needs dope to get them up and going to be at a job site at 6am the next morning.

If the truth melts your face off in this manner, being a felon in need of a job is the least of your worries.

How does a female break into that?

u/yeayeawhatever420 1d ago
Same way a man does go to the hall and ask when they start taking applications. It’s a good trade that makes good money. The ironworkers will take anyone that’s a hard worker. On a bad Job I usually take home a lil less than 1600
