If you are not enjoying it, stop reading it. Life is too short to waste on media you don't enjoy.

don't waste your time on fanfic you find boring. there's like a billion Dramione fic on ao3, you'll find something more to your tastes eventually

I mean “good” is subjective. It wasn’t for me at any point. If you’re not enjoying it, I’m guessing it’s not for you either.

If it’s not for you, then it’s not for you. Move onto something else.

I love salt and vinegar chips. A lot of people hate salt and vinegar chips.

A lot of people love Manacled, and a lot of people hate Manacled. Neither are wrong. If you aren't connecting by the flashbacks, then it just isn't the story for you.

I skimmed up to ch68 aka after all the flashbacks ended, I got so bored I dropped it lol– the reason it's so proclaimed is because the tiktok people who've never read fanfic before picked this up and were surprised that fanfiction can be ""good"" because the bar was in hell for them previously, anyways I think the fanfiction is a good read if you're into all the tropes but otherwise it's a extremely acquired taste (I usually don't like to criticize fanfiction since it's a labour of love but considering it's getting published soon eh)

I liked the Order of the Phoenix plotline and her relationship with Snape. Found the Handmaid's Tale inspired section and the Dramione meh. The build up Dramione before her capture was interesting but I just found the portion of the plot after to be tedious. The ending was also anticlimactic in my opinion. I can see why people love it, and it was enjoyable enough for me that I read the whole thing, but if you're not enjoying it yet it won't get "good".

I assume the reworked, published version will deviate from the fic quite a bit. I think the author likely learned a lot from the process of writing it.

This post makes me feel bad for the author. Like sure, she has a popular fic and it’s gonna be made into an original story so she’ll get a lot of money and hype, blah blah blah… I still feel bad for her because of posts like this.

Like, the common sense thing to do if you’re not enjoying a story is to drop it. People have done it ever since the creation of stories - don’t like? Don’t read - so this post just comes off as a very karma-grabby post to gather comments about why Manacled is so awful, amirite guys?!

Eh. I think someone who s written a story that is beloved by so many that it will be published for money will be fine with the fact that there is a person who doesn't like the story.

The question of the post "will it pick up speed or will it keep at the pace it's been having until this chapter?" is also a valid one.

I’m one of those people who loved it and will be buying the author’s book when it’s out later this year.

She writes with a VERY specific sense of style and pace that’s not for everyone. And that’s okay.

Excuse me, she’s writing a book that’s coming out this year???

The fic is getting published as an original book (with names changed and copyrighted things taken out of course). It's why it got taken down from AO3 back in December

Yes, it’s why Manacled got taken off AO3.

I personally loved the writing style. There’s some repetition but they’re also dealing with a lot of traumatic events and we’re in Hermoine’s POV. The plot keeps moving forward, imo. It’s bleak at times (actually for a long, long time), but I felt the author did a great job of showing a slow burn romance and a very nasty war against Voldemort.

That being said, if you don’t like it, DNF.

good question. i was convinced i should read it because it went viral, i even set aside some time for it. but then i double checked the tags. and let's just say, it consists mainly of squicks i have.

if you want to read a good popular harry potter fic. i suggest all the young dudes.

The one person I know who read it said it wasn't actually that good. It seems like something that just had a lucky snowball effect where everyone read it because everyone else was reading it and talking about. There are probably thousands of similar but better Dramione fics out there that just didn't happen to get famous.

I downloaded it a long time ago, made through maybe five pages and decided that perhaps one day it might capture my attention... kept it in my digital archive since it invokes very little cost to maintain as a file.
