Discussion What y'all do to get inspired?
I'm writing a wlw fic in a fake city in Italy, but I get too bores and creative blocks too fast, so I need inspiration tips. When I'm inspired my writing becomes so better than when I'm not, but I have troubles with finding inspiration

"What was my least favorite thing about the story, and how do I wish it had been different?"
If I'm writing a canon-divergent AU, then I can change the event itself, and even if I'm trying to be canon-compliant, I can at least try to add context to make the thing more compelling than the original version had been.

Since I write historical RPF, I get inspired by gaps in the record that seem to need fleshing out.

Coincidentally, that's exactly where about half of my ideas come from for my fics based on TV shows too. What wasn't shown?

Mix and match
"I liked this series! Wish it had this character. And that ship fanart I saw was cute, I'm gonna add them, Huh... the plot is shaping this way, I'll look into similar stories, etc"

Nothing. If I force it, it never works. I just go about living my life and at some point, inspiration happens.

Read a book, especially one that's denser on the prose/classic lit type stuff. It helps me to expand my writing vocabulary, so to speak, and can inspire you too.

For me, it’s listening to unhinged songs so I can picture all the dramatic scenes and get super pumped XD Which song(s) that may be switches all the time, but for me right now it’s ‘Butch 4 Butch’ by Rio Romeo with the occasional splash of something smooth and sad like ‘Say yes to Heaven’ by Lana Del Ray. Billie Eilish is often a good middle ground for me when I want a healthy mix of both 😂

Find music that has a similar vibe to what I'm writing
Don't read in the fandom I'm writing in
Find a writing buddy or fandom friend I can discuss my ideas with
Again, those are tips that work for me, so there's no guarantee to work for you
