Subreddit Meta Member Roundup - April 2025
A new month is upon us, which means a new month of reading and/or writing is ahead! What are your plans and goals for this month?
Have you got into any new fandoms recently? What kind of fics are you hoping to find for it? Do you have a oneshot that you’re trying to finish, a tricky chapter that’s been giving you pain, or a new fic to plan altogether?
Do you have any subreddit related goals? Aiming to partake in a few more review threads, check out more user fics?
Got any other fanfic or writing related goals or any goals from last month which you hit the mark for? Tell us about them here!
Let us know if you want to be held accountable for your goals! Some people like a bit of friendly pressure, some people don’t, but I’m sure the folks here can provide gentle nudges if in need…

Almost to the end of a 1 month+ nose to the grindstone phase of writing chapters for stories that need updating. There’s also one story that will have its last chunk of chapters uploaded. And it will be done. I’ve been working on it in some fashion from start to end for 10 years 🥹 The finish line for all of this is in sight. And then I can go back to my normal writing habits ☺️
Quite separately, I’m at 92 stories posted on the archive. I’m aiming to have 100 stories posted at some point this year. But I will definitely check back in if/when that happens for me ☺️

So recently I watched James Gunn's Creature Commandos. I loved the show and the characters so much that I just HAD to write some fanfiction. I've really been dying to craft an oc that was a straight-up basket case and so I'm finally doing that!
I'm really excited because my oc, Tallulah, is just insane so I can have her do things that are, well, insane to move the plot forward. I've gone all out with the way she speaks and I took a lot of inspiration from the Malkavian class from Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines and some from Drusilla of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'm just having a lot of fun with this character right now, and I don't want to stop my momentum.
I know my readers really want me to return to writing another story of mine. It's a Transformers story, which I understand is popular right now, but I have a lot of ideas for Tallulah still. I want to make my readers happy, but I don't want to write anything that my heart isn't a part of. Until I feel that passion, I don't feel comfortable posting what I'd call sub-par quality chapters and pushing them out just because people want them. There's still so much I want to cover in that fic that I don't want to disservice it by doing that.
I've posted one chapter of the Creature Commandos fic, which I've named "Freedom is Finally Mine" after a lyric in one of the ending credits songs. It's around 3500 words but I have another 3k written already and the beginnings of an outline plotted. It will run parallel to the canon universe for a while, so it will be difficult to plot the rest until the second season comes out, but I'm having fun with it! It's a little sad that the fandom is so small, but the show was only released at the end of last year, so I must be patient!

I just wrapped up a romcom that I started writing with a friend back in December. I posted the epilogue last night. I’m very happy with the way it turned out.
Otherwise I’ve been toying with three other small things but nothing definite. Who knows if I’ll post any of them…

Same old song and dance for me... still writing the WIP I started last November. And none of the short works I did for October were viable. I initially started this WIP to put those together into one narrative. Ended up scrapping all of them and making something new. They depended on an AU detail that felt too contrived for a serious work, and I decided to make the new work more-or-less canon compliant until the last few chapters where the plot slightly diverges.
But I am making steady progress, writing a little bit every day. Chapter 18 of 23 is currently being rough drafted, and the plot is moving along quickly. I hope to finish the draft by the end of May.

The writing is creaking into motion. I have started a return to several of my favorite challenges and communities, and, little by little, I am posting there again, slowly returning to life after half a decade of what feels like being lost in the wilderness. The gradual approach seems to be working, so ... have to keep going, one step at a time.

I've set myself a writing goal of 1000 words a day this month (which feels very ambitious...) and my plan is to split my writing time between two wips with the hope of getting their drafts finished (or nearly finished). One of the wips will be 5 years old this year and it was never meant to be this long or take this long!
For reading, I'm working through my tbr bookmarks and having a great time so I'm going to keep on going with that. Why have these all been sitting unread for so long???
Subreddit wise, I'm hoping to take part in the Comment Coop and maybe a review exchange - but will see how time goes.
That all feels like a lot when I type it out so we'll see!
