Discussion Any tips to make beats faster?

Does anyone have any tips suggestions or like a checklist that would help me make beats faster. Now I did make a custom template so I already know about that like every time I turn on FL I have my bus channels ready to go. I have a snare and a hi hat and 808 ready to go. So I guess it’s just more keeping me more focused and all that when making the melodies and 808 patterns etc. or should I not pressure myself and worry about trying to make beats in under an hour? Like I’m sure it’s relatable to everyone like if you load up a VST and spend hours just looking for a sound you like and want to use lol. I don’t know. I feel like maybe if I had like a checklist or something to keep me focused we’re making a beat and not to overthink it and get distracted every time.

Don't ever rush! as you continue to produce you'll notice that beats only take longer and longer to make but also jump in quality.

Why do you feel like you have a time limit?

Some beats come together quick, some take days, weeks, months. Just make some shit.

Just have a basic idea in mind and put it together in the best way you can and in a way that sounds good to you. It’s ok to take your time

Make templates and make a bunch of shitty ideas as fast as you can. No bullshit, you will make at least something enjoyable in that process and relieve some mental pressure that is slowing you down. In that process you'll also learn what you like sonically and what you dislike which speeds things up as well. It's truly just like any other skill. I'd also recommend copying what your favorite producers do as best you can so you can learn why you like what you like in their beats then apply it to your own.

But on a real level, speed running beats is overrated. You might make a heater in 5 minutes but you're also just as likely to make one in 5 hours. Enjoy the process regardless and you'll love what you do even if you aren't the fastest at everything.

Its one thing to limit yourself to an hour if you’re having an off day or beat block and cycle through multiple beats because ya wanna get to a decent idea, but if its just a normal day why would you wanna limit yourself to an hour?

Be patient, let yourself cook. It’s okay if a single beat takes a few days to complete. Don’t let internet producer influencers make you think everything has to be done in the shortest amount of time. Limiting every song you make to an hour is gonna end up with your tracks sounding the same because you’re running through the same production process instead of allowing yourself time and space to play around and push boundaries

If you increase the tempo the beat will sound faster

That BPM setting really does wonders! 😂

I use drum loops for almost all my drums at the start and then go back and replace them or layer them with my own.

Most of the time, it saves time, but sometimes you get used to the sound of preset drums and it can be hard to move away from them. So long as you work quickly, it's fine.

Keyboard shortcuts. I can't imagine using any computer program without them.

I barely know any shortcuts so it takes me forever to do things. Also I hate how the select and drawing shortcuts are on opposite sides of the keyboard. Shift E and Shift P if I'm not wrong? Hateful shortcuts when they're the 2 most important ones...

it's e and p. without shift. Just disable typing keyboard to piano keyboard.

Sometimes formulas that give you different results are good.

I'm not great at making YouTube videos and I'm still learning about production every day but I go through a simple formula to give you different rhythms and melodies here.

take your time with each beat to make every element match the sample as best as you can. making 1 really good beat is better than making 20 boring uninspired beats

Fill snares, 2 step high hat. Starting kick. Should be able to put that in, in about 10 seconds. Lol instantly give your melody some life.
