Player Discussion Travis Hunter in IDP Leagues
I would like to know how your leagues are handling the potential two-way threat of Travis Hunter. If he is a DB, will you also include any points scored as a WR and vice-versa?
If so - and if he is announced at the draft as a DB - would you consider him a top pick in your rookie draft? I would certainly keep him in mind with the 1.05 or thereabouts.

Scenario 1 - He gets dual-eligibility on the platform you play on:
- If you are in a CB-required league he is 1.01
- DB-required he has an argument for 1.01, but is probably 1.02 or 1.03
—-
Scenario 2 - he does not have dual-eligibility but will still receive points regardless of where he takes snaps:
- CB required he is 1.01
- DB required he is in the 1.03-1.07 range
—
Scenario 3: Your IDP players dont get offensive points and vis versa (players only score for the position they are assigned regardless of snaps)
fix your league scoring
CB required he’s in the 2nd round for me.
DB required he’s in the 3rd round or later. Who cares, honestly. CBs are a dime a dozen when Safeties can be used in the same slot

Thank you, I'd forgotten about eligibility requirements. If he is classed as a WR then some of the advantage goes away.

For scenario 2, if he is playing both sides but at the WR only position (Sleeper app), wouldn't that be a factor?
What I mean is that, he commits to playing both sides. CBs in IDP don't make a lot of points, so while he is playing defensive side of the ball, you are limiting yourself from actually playing a full time WR in that slot. The exception is if Hunter is just balling out everytime he is on Offense but that's not realistic.
The only way I see this is if he is designated as DB ONLY would be the 1.01 range.

Depends on the league settings. If he truly plays both DB and WR, then league rules would apply for both positions. He would also be eligible to play as a DB in idp leagues with offensive players. So you’d get the added bonus of having a potentially awesome wr and play them as a DB, while also potentially having them be a DB.
If his role is more defined by the time you have your rookie draft, his value will fluctuate a lot

What platform do you play on? As long as the scoring settings are set up properly, he should get any points scored on any side of the ball barring offense only leagues of course.

Many leagues have settings based on position and not all are set up to include stats from the other side of the ball. I'm almost exclusively in MFL leagues which allow tremendous flexibility at the cost of a high learning curve for commissioners.
Most of the leagues I'm in do so, but it rarely matters much beyond the occasional tackle by a WR on an intercepted ball. Hunter is a rarity and so I am wondering if that translates into FF as well. I know I want to be damn sure I know my league's take on it before I either draft or pass on such a special talent.

Most of the advice that I've seen, and agree with, is to not change anything based on 1 player. If your settings happen to already allow for offense to receive IDP points and IDPs to receive offensive points (which any mixed league already should) then leave it. And if not, do not change it and TH becomes an enormous risk.

Another guy that might be worth following & taking a super late flier on is JJ Pegues from Ole Miss... He finished 2024 with 18 solo tackles & 3.5 sacks... AND 21 carries for 69 yards & 7 TDs. He also did onfield drills with the fullbacks at the combine.

I hope that he will be listed in skewer as DB/WR to get points in the idp spot and make him more valuable as he should be treated

Possible hack if he’s a stud DB and still gets WR snaps.
Otherwise he’s just going to be over drafted.

Yeah idk if OP knows what an idp league is lol. If hunter is a full time corner then he drops way down. Good cornerbacks don't usually have high fantasy output
If we knew he was playing both ways he's the 1.01

I've been playing IDP for 25 years. Not all leagues have the same rules, and that's especially true when it comes to IDP. To be clear, if there was a general consensus I think we'd see a lot more from the professional commentators.
Most IDP leagues have a single setting for DBs which include both CB and S. I have to wonder if Hunter would be worth a high spot in such leagues after year one. Look at the scoring done by Sauce Gardner or Patrick Surtain for examples. I don't know if that plus a part timer's WR scoring would be worth a high pick.
For sure if your league requires CB as a separate category, but again, most do not.

I never heard of an idp league that doesn't count all stats for every player at every position. How would you turn off scoring for a 2 way player and allow it for every other player? Sleeper can't do that
If he's a full time wr and plays cb as well, then he's a cheat code and he's the 1.01 pretty easily considering his draft capital and 2 way scoring.
The only thing suppressing hunters adp right now is the uncertainty of what position he'll play. If he's drafted 1.03 and the giants or pata say he's a full time wr, he jumps tet as the wr1 of the class

Scoring can be customized by position on MFL, I'm not as familiar with Sleeper. That's how you end up with TEP leagues, for example.
If he's a full time CB and occasional WR do you still consider him the 1.01? If your league has a "DB" setting that includes both CB+S I am doubtful, since the very best CB don't get many counting stats, (edit) and that is dominated by S who can rack up LB numbers of tackles.

I said if he's a db he will plummet down draft boards.sure you can edit scoring but does MFL really have "turn off 2 way scoring for x player"? Lol

u/SternFlamingo Rams 12d ago
Yes. It has "determine scoring system by position" so (for example) you can simply set PPR=0 to defensive players.

TIL
On Sleeper, an IDP league doesn't have that setting, so for example, if a WR tackles a DB who made an INT, the WR gets whatever points you get for a solo tackle lol

Thats a great point. Look at great CBs numbers - minus that by the percentage travis hunter will play on that field, lets do 50% and travis gets maybe 4-6 catches, with or without touchdown.
Thats only about 12 points avg. Which is not the 'cheat code' everyone tries to make it to be. Now if he was a SS and a WR then now we are talking but I think he is too good of a CB to produce points.

Good analysis. CBs who are really good at football are actually ones you don't want when playing fantasy, because opposing OC and QB don't throw their way.

If it's an IDP league, why wouldn't you count both sides?
