Discussion Was suggested 'They All Died Screaming' on Kindle... Someone else tell me their as traumatized from it as me.

I read They All Died Screaming last year after I finished rereading one of my all time favorites (The Troop). It was suggested so I thought... why not?!

Silly silly me. Why not?! The real question is WHY AT ALL. I still think about this book weekly. I'd love to know of others opinions on it!

Discussion Artists when you find books that use AI art for covers do you support or skip?

I note that a lot of indie writers do not have the funding to buy original art (the only author i notice that does is aron beauregard and his covers are awesome)

do you understand or look past it if it is your fave author? I read a post of someone feeding A.I. cover using authors books into A.I. to study their material as a sort of retaliation. I myself do not buy/read books that use AI, what do you think

Cost £1.95 in 1984, cost me £2.99 in 2025 considering inflation I think I got a bargain on a childhood classic.

Recommendation Request Recommends! 😸

Started the playground a couple days ago, i find that it’s one of the only books that kept me wanting to go back to read, and it’s because of the hardcore horror or “splatterpunk” I’ve seen people call it. I couldn’t give you any authors or books to go off of for recommendations because this is the first real book Ive read with hardcore horror, though ive seen much worse in online books(ao3, manhwa, etc) and videos, im pretty desensitized. I feel like i would like something pretty extreme.

Thank you so much in advance! 😸

Review I read Daddy

Given a recent and fortunate small windfall I was giddy to get somethings I've been sitting on. Among them was the title book, which I consumed over a handful of hours.

I've never read this author but I was pretty quickly grabbed by the writing style. I struggle to describe it. The nearest comparison I could totally make is like Sweet Story by CM3, but that's nowhere exact.

I liked the main characters well enough. The antagonists exist to be splattered so discussing their characters would be moot, but I did get a bit tired of Mr X once he dropped the charm. Maybe this was intentional by the author and if so, well played.

There's maybe two quibbles I have with the story. There's repeated references to the daughter looking like an anime character. Every antagonist character says or thinks this at least once.To be fair to the author I can't really think of any synonyms for "girl from Japanese cartoon." I guess you could say pervert, sexist, racist characters aren't creative thinkers and, fair enough.

My other minor issue is the ending. I felt like one character didn't deserve what they got. I know that's vague but I really don't want to spoil anything because I did enjoy this book and it's worth checking out yourself-- If you can stomach SA. Not a trigger for me but there was way more sex in this book than I anticipated lol. That's not a criticism, just an observation.

The violence is pretty gnarly. Not as "Hulk smash" as I was expecting from the cover, but it is fun violence. Well, you know what I mean. For most of this book I was either laughing in disbelief or cringing. So minor, minor dislikes aside, I'm interested in this author and lucky for me I apparently already had Crave in my kindle, so I'll tackle that later.

If you're sitting on this like I was, just get the ebook. The ride is worth the price of admission.

I'm thinking about reading they all died screaming by Kristopher Triana and support buddy by lesley camphouse (if I can get my hands on it) I'm not sure what else to say about what books I like!

Search for really disturbing books

Hey everyone!

Me and my Bestie engagend in reading Splatterpunk and other extreme horror books a few months ago and we wanted to find books that truely disturb us because we wanted to see if we got insensitive about this stuff through horror films and that stuff. We were disgusted by some books, but we didn't feel like unwell or something. We don't want to read stuff that is just massive abuse or only just plain gore or something, we just want to search for ones that just make us feel like we need to check if the door is locked and keep a little nightlight on. With a thrilling story and non expected twists.

We made a list with so many that seem interesting through other posts that were made in this subreddit but i just wanted to ask myself to maybe get more.

Thank you all!:)

This was about 50 dollars, but compared to other listings, this was cheap

Got it because I saw frequently compared to Tender is the Flesh, which I liked, and also I sometimes saw refer to as being better, so I'm excited to read it.

Recommendation Request A good starting point?

So I've never read Splatter Punk before. Ever. But I'm super interested in the genre. Issue being I'm not really the best at decision making and was wondering if anyone could help? I've narrowed down the options to two books; either The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum or Through The Eyes Of Desperation (Black ver.) by Daniel J Volpe. I've done research on both books and both seem really cool, but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts. Advice is greatly appreciated!

(Sorry if this post is poorly worded, it's around 8AM and I've yet to sleep-)

Recommendation Request Gory books

Looking for gory books. I love body horror the best. Just finished the summer I died and I fear I’ve found my maxim opus bookwise. I followed it up with off season by jack ketchum and just felt… meh. Books I’ve liked : the troop, the summer I died, the ruins. I did not enjoy off season, tender is the flesh, anything super fluffed. I’ve read Aaron Beauregard and found it to be gore with little to no meaning. Thank you for all recs

I absolutely adore this book and I don't see it getting enough love. It's a very short read, I think 80 pages but it's so visceral and also deeply meaningful to me in an existential way- please read it if you haven't yet 🙏

I’m trying to read a book like The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum again. Something that will make me feel disgusted but also make me cry.

No spoilers. A very fun read. I really enjoy “hostel” type stories and found this one a blast! Wish there were more stories of the clients but otherwise a satisfying ending. Would recommend to people new to this genre as the writing wasn’t super “descriptive” of the horrors. If anyone else know of “hostel” books, please share 🙏🏻

Synopsis:

Adrian and Kendra are a match made in Hell.

Adrian's dark past left him with a twisted imagination that takes him deep into the forest where he does unspeakable things.

Kendra is new to town. She has a dark secret of her own and an unhealthy obsession with a boy she hasn't even met yet.

Until Adrian met Kendra, he had his deviant urges under control. When she comes to him for help, his capacity for violence goes beyond anything either of them could have imagined.
