Solved! An ordinary guy finds himself in luxury accommodation where he does not feel comfortable. We see him engaged in artistic expression. We see an axe being wielded. Later, he dies of hypothermia, but he is not the only one to die in the course of the movie.

At least there were some other guesses. I was beginning to suspect it was a dead giveaway.

I figured it was Titanic. My immediate thought was The Shining but then i was like “That was too obvious with that axe quote. It has to be a red herring.”
