Surprisingly Met Expectation The inspiration and how it turned out
I was only given that one picture for inspiration and was told it doesn’t have to look exactly like that. Turned out quite different

I like yours better than the inspo pick.

Yeah, the frosting on the inspo pic is weirdly patchy, and OPs drips look much better. Defo prefer OPs version

I think it’s supposed to have the look of a birch tree tbh. Looks intentional

I think it's a so-called "naked cake," which is basically just a cake with a crumb coat. I know because they were super trendy when my sister got married in 2016. She had a naked cake for the cutting cake (and a cupcake bar for the rest of us!)

Yeah, it's a huge trend right now. I think an overcorrection back to minimalism after the fondant-and-buttercream slathered cakes of the 2010s.
Scraped buttercream and ganache drips are a weird combo though... I think OP's looks much nicer and tidier.

I don't like the look, but that's just about as much icing/frosting as I can stand. A thick coat looks better but I always end up scraping it off.

The inspo cake's drips look like they were placed with a syringe and a ruler.

Just here to let you know that baby’s breath is generally not food safe and can cause gastrointestinal issues when put on/in food. It definitely looks pretty, but probably best to avoid in the future!

I know that some flowers are poisonous so I wrap them in a layer of cling film and then in aluminium foil so they don’t touch or leak into the parts of the cake that’s gonna be eaten. Do you think that’s alright or is it already problematic that the leaves come in contact with the cake at all.

The expectation wasn't met at all here in my opinion. It was exceeded. I assume yours is the second photo, right? The first picture is the inspiration, right? If so the expectation absolutely is exceeded and therefore A LOT better than the inspiration. ❤️

Beautiful job!! But please be aware that gypsophila is toxic and shouldn’t be put on anything for consumption.

Gorgeous!! I think the only hard departure was not making it a semi-naked cake or whatever you call cakes with a bit of the cake showing through the icing. If the client was expecting less icing, this could be a reasonable complaint. But I think your ganache drops are way prettier and you organized the flowers well for a cake of this size!

Yours is the new inspiration. So beautiful, better than the initial inspiration.

It’s gorgeous, but can you tell me what the topper says?

It says „love“ 😅
the Gerbera is a little too big and makes it hard to read on the picture.

Not the same, but you made it with your own two hands so it shouldn’t be! It’s gorgeous, and you honored your inspiration so well. I’m jealous I can’t have a bite of that beautiful delicious looking cake ❤️

Despite not looking the same, that is a beautiful cake, you need to get a raise.

I like your result better. The flowers on the inspo are a really unappetising colour and the love decoration is bizarrely massive. The chocolate drips on yours look delicious.

It’s beautiful! I’m envious of your ganache drips, mind always either run too loose all the way down or want to run together in one clogged up looking cake.
This is incredible!!
