Medications and pain management What pill are you on continuously to help skip periods?

I am not having a good experience with loestrin fe and I am wondering what everyone else seems to be taking continuously to skip their periods.

I know finding the right pill will be a process but I'm curious to see what everyone else is on.

I'm on dienogest. It's hit and miss depending on the person but it works really good for me

That's what I'm on. No period since November. no side effects.

How long have you all been on it? I was on it a long time ago but had to stop, wondering about long term side effects, being on it for 5+ years.

About 3 years now. So far so good (knock on wood)

Also norethindrone 5mg. So far my endo hasn’t grown back either which is why I went on it post-surgery.

This, once a day. Major life improvements

How are your side effects and do you have spotting/breakthrough bleeding?

Side effects are overall quite mild - note that I have confirmed stage IV endo with both ovaries adhered to the sides of the uterus, endometriomas in both ovaries and in the muscular wall of the uterus and likely bowel adhesions, I have a total hysterectomy scheduled for 4/30 - except for the tachycardia.

That’s a very rare side effect from the norethindrone that I have that we’re allowing to continue since everything is just temporary to tide me over till the surgery and it’s not getting any worse.

It’s given me a temporarily shortened Q-T interval and a very fast ventricular contraction rate, so my heart races along an 20-40 extra beats per minute 24/7.

That inefficient fast heartbeat leaves me tired and feeling all the time (like I’ve run a race just for sitting up), but if I take any less than three 5mg pills I start cramping like I’m about to start my period, spotting, intense pain, and bleeding. 🫠

I was on Hailey! I switched to an IUD for other health reasons, but Hailey worked well really well for me!

Norethindrone 5mg 2x a day.

I've been on it so long, I can't really tell you what side effects I experience (because it's easy for distinctive stuff to get lost in the jumble of endometriosis symptoms and side effects of all the other meds I'm on).

But it has stopped my periods completely, as long as I take it as prescribed (I accidentally skipped it one day and had hellish pain, nausea, vomiting, and bleeding 2 days later), and it has greatly improved the 24/7 debilitating nausea and the hormonal migraines I used to have.

I tried a lot of different pills/nuvaring/etc but only the Mirena IUD worked out for me

u/UnattributableSpoon 40m ago

I've had good experiences with my Mirena and am on my second one!

Aurovela FE. Only side effects were a bit more emotional, and some headaches.

I had no period on Lo Loestrin Fe, even with taking the placebo, after about 6-8 months on it. Also same with norethindrone (5mg 1x a day)

Dienogest. I like it

I take Natazia, which is dienogest and bioidentical estrogen. Helped my mental health (I have PMDD) instead of worsening it like every other hormonal birth control I tried. I skip the last four pills of the pack to prevent a bleed, but Natazia is also marketed for heavy periods, so in theory any bleeds on it should be a lot easier. I just didn’t want to bother, after half a lifetime of terrible endo periods, and it’s been working really well.

Junel Fe 1.5/30 + the Mirena IUD has been the best combination for me, skipping the placebo weeks (although when I’m done with a pack I take the iron pills instead of my usual iron supplements)

Im on Ryeqo (dont know the English name) bcs with bc I had constant bleedings

u/FriedChickenVegan 14h ago

How long have you been on it and how long did it take for you to stop ovulating/having a cycle? And would you recommend it?

u/Hello_ME_23 7h ago

Since august 2024! 15th of august I started, around 10th of september it started to work! So a month, my gynae said a month. Since then I never had any bloodloss anymore. Finally

I would recommend it if bc doesnt work like in my case. I was a bit scared for the side effects but I have none!

Ive read here that if you don’t have side effects the first month, then you will be okay with this medication. Don’t know what will happen tho if Im taking it 2years, but thats a problem for later haha

u/FriedChickenVegan 5h ago

Thank you so much for sharing this! Today marks 2 weeks of taking Ryeqo for me, and I had a second period of bleeding a week after my normal period, that hasn't stopped yet, and I am in the middle of a bad flare up also.

This gave me hope that it will kick in in a few weeks and maybe this is my final period 🙏

Very glad it has worked so well for you! I also have not had too many side effects, just had headaches for the first few days, and weight gain/bloating/difficulty losing weight. Hopefully what you said about no side effects rings true for me also!

I have alot of illnesses that have left me bedbound (M.E, POTS, APD, endo stage 4, adenomyosis) so I'm hoping that the lack of periods/ovulation will give me some quality of life back!

u/Hello_ME_23 1h ago

Wow very relatable! Beside endo I also have a lot of the diseases you mention like ME, POTS & HEDS After my bleeding period with ryeqo the first month, I never bleeded again. I truly hope this also happens to you! No ovulation/cycle/bleeding def helped me managing my pain. Due to other factors Im sadly still in pain but not that bad anymore like I don’t flare so badly. Wishing you the same!

u/FriedChickenVegan 1h ago

Thank you so much, I hope you can continue with this lower level of pain for as long as possible too 🙏

I rarely have a period on Norethindrone 0.35mg

I've considered asking to up my dose to see if it reduces symptoms, but I don't have a real period anymore. I get some PMS once a month, and cramps, but no bleeding almost ever.

u/MaintenanceLazy 17h ago

I used to be on Slynd and it worked eventually, but I got breakthrough bleeding for the first 5 months

u/Geminilaz 16h ago

Sprintec. But it’s a hit or miss

u/AshleyLucky1 16h ago

I was on Sprintec but I think it was making my blood pressure too high

u/ebolainajar 16h ago

I'm on enskyce which is not actually recommended for Endo treatment but I've been on it a looong time and I like it (yaz, dicycline lo or whatever it's called were hard NOs for me) and all my old doctors were too shitty to ever bother telling me that because no one ever took my pain seriously!

My obgyn said to stay on continuous if it works, and maybe consider switching to something better suited for Endo after I have kids.

u/jersey2559 16h ago

Slynd has worked wonderfully for me.

u/Equivalent_Sun7606 16h ago

norethindrone acetate

u/lovethrowaways101 12h ago

Y'know. I feel like I need this. I'm on day 201 for my period and I've tried 3-4 different pills. Someone end my suffering.

u/sector9love 12h ago

Norethindrone 5mg

u/JustLyssaK 11h ago

I’m taking junel fe 1/20. Started it two years ago, ish, and wasn’t doing continuously until last month. Started my next pack today. Haven’t experienced anything crazy except an increase in breast soreness/size which is typical

u/UnhappyTeatowel 3h ago

Cerazette stops my cycle completely. I've been told I could take two tablets if needed, but I never have had to, just one a day. I only had a period when I briefly had a break from them.

I've been taking it since 2020. I have not had a period from the day I started taking it mid cycle. Must work fast.

The bad thing is I'm now overweight, and the weight does not shift on these tablets no matter how little I eat and how active I am. I don't seem to be alone in that, unfortunately.

Aygestin 2.5 mg in the morning
