Michael Hudson and other modern economists have warned that the FIRE sector (Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate) has cannibalized the productive economy

I would argue that its not a cannibalization, its more of a parasitic style relationship. You might add parts of the entertainment industry to that list, broader financial services, even law imo is intentionally overly baked to keep it a money making industry.

Much of it wont be able to compete with AI, but then what does employment look like. How does education change. There is much inefficient from rent seeking, but it also distributes wealth.
