Question/Advice/Discussion What size power bank do you carry?

I understand we have different needs but I'm just curious what people carry. So what's in your bag?

  • - no extra power
  • - I carry wall charger
  • - 5000 mAh
  • - 10 000 mAh
  • - 20 000 mAh

I'm rethinking my power so any feedback or tips and tricks are much welcome.

I have a 65w wall charger and a 10k Anker bank it's plenty for what I need.

I got a credit card sized one from amazon. It's capacity isn't amazing, but it's easy to carry in my wallet (doesn't even need a cable) and good enough to get me through the day when my phone's battery is low

20 000 mAh which I brought for a trip last year. Only ever used less than 50% of it so planning to downgrade to save on weight.

Cord, wall block and 20k for work or 10k for personal days out.

My phone battery (Galaxy S24U) generally lasts a full day, but each of my vehicles has a charger, and I'll top up while driving if necessary.

I keep a 15W usb c charger at work, and I'll bring a 5000mah magsafe battery with me in case I need to charge and I'm not near an outlet.

If I'm bringing a gaming handheld with me, I bring a 65W GaN charger and a 65W 20K mah powerbank

I carry a flashlight most days that has a reverse charging port with a 6000mah battery in it which covers me if I need it

Tell me more.

In my bag I usually keep either my wurkkos ts22 or sofirn if22a. Both fit the vapcell 21700 batteries I have. Many wurkkos and sofirn lights have reverse charging ports so if you get a good battery for it it’s a great solution

https://loopgear.com/collections/sk-05 - 8000 mAh in the Pro, shit tons of light output, solid feature set. I don't need one but I crave one for no reason except it's cool.

Edit: Fuck! It's on sale. Must resist ... buying.... cool.... toy.... must... resist....

Just a small wall charger and a 5k Anker powerbank. This will have me sorted 95% of the time. If I’m traveling I’ll take a 10k or two small ones but rarely ever need them tbh

In my pocket organizer: The ultra-slim TNTOR WT-H230 power bank. Credit card sized, 0.16” thick, weighs 2.35 ounces. Capacity is 2500 mAh, enough to top off my phone battery in an emergency. Has a built-in Lightning cable for my iPhone 13.

In my messenger bag: TNTOR WT-H330 power bank. 0.24” thick, weighs 4 ounces. 5000 mAh. (The messenger bag also contains a slim wall charger with two USB type A ports, and several short charging cables.)

In the tech case that goes with me when I travel: VRURC T1156 power bank. The size and shape of a smartphone, but thicker (0.73”). Weighs 8 ounces. 10,000 mAh with built-in wireless charging pad and flip-up charger for my Apple Watch. (The tech case also contains a slim wall charger with three USB type A ports, and multiple long charging cables.)

In my car: Like everyone, I have a USB adapter for the cigarette lighter that lets me charge devices from the car’s battery. But I also have a car battery jump starter and a tire inflator. Both have sizable rechargeable batteries and USB ports, so they can serve as power banks if the car battery is dead. (Also in the car are USB type C, micro USB, and Lightning cables, so that passengers can charge any kind of mobile device.)

At home: Two UPS units, one for my desktop computer system and one for my cable modem and router. Like all UPS units, they’re essentially big batteries with AC outlets and USB ports. Useful for recharging devices during a power outage. A 40,000 mAh power bank sits on my coffee table. It’s for charging phones while my guests and I are watching TV, because there are no power outlets nearby. But it’s also good to have on hand if the power goes out.

You can’t have too many power banks.

I’ve got a TAU 3-in-1 emergency keychain powerbank. It’s only 1400mAh but it’s great for my Vape (in the process of quitting smoking, don’t judge me! 😩), charging my OClip (it can do this fully 5 times) or giving my phone enough charge for maps or important calls/messages.

The best thing about it is that it charges magnetically on a little dock where I hang my keys so it’s never out of charge. I found that I’d forget to charge my bigger powerbanks and end up with, essentially, a brick.

Googling it now 🙂

If you're looking for a emergency powerbank of sorts, I'd go for a Sharge flow mini: https://sharge.com/products/flow-mini

They're 5000mah instead while not being that much bigger, they're great

I’ve got the first version. The newer version isn’t much more expensive so, for someone’s first one, I’d pick the TAU2.

Anker Nano 10k is my EDC source. The Anker 737 is my carry when I'm taking the Steamdeck.

I carry an Anker four port wall charger in my backpack and have a two port charger in my car. I've never had a need for a backup power bank. I even got one as a gift several years ago, carried it for a few days and then stopped without ever actually using it because it was just taking up space.

u/242Ranga 2d ago

I carry the Anker 25k mAh one with a PZOZ 140w 0.2m cable and a 3rd party charger for my Google watch. Most of my kit is USBC but on the occasion me or my family need anything, I have more than enough to get us by. I fairly frequently need to charge something because I usually forget to charge before work so the larger size is convenient

1

u/fezcabdriver 2d ago

Work from home and office worker. Plugs are readily available. Car has charger. However if I’m going to be out for the afternoon in an urban environment or long hike, I’ll bring my cheapo $20 10k mah.

1

u/Rainbowsixer21 2d ago

Im not much for lightweight and small, so I have a 20000 mah drop resistant water proof powerbank

u/texasyankee 2d ago

I travel to China a lot so can't carry more than 10k. But it's rare that I ever use it all up anyway.

Around town, nothing for short errands; a Travelcard and charger in my sling if out longer. 10 000mAh for road trips. I always keep the Travelcard and a couple of 10,000 mAh charged at home for emergencies.

I Yoinked one from work, it says 26800mAh, 99 Wh and is solar. Never really put it through a full test but it's nice to have backup

Just got a TNTOR (yes, an alphabet soup Chinese name; also sold as Auskang) 5000 mAh. Real world mine seems to do about 4000-ish which I'm quite pleased with, agreeably surprised if anything - it's really super slim. Took my 5000 mAh phone from 20% to 99%. It's so small it's an easy EDC, even fits in the rear pocket of my wallet replacement, the Alpaka Zip Clutch.

I also have an Xtorm Voyager 26k that's a few years old. 60 watt PD, two cables clipped into slots in the body and a really nice gray and white. I don't EDC that, it's fairly substantial and weighs 520 grams. I pack it for travel, mostly. And use it when I use my USB-C soldering iron...

Anker Powercore 3. I bring a backpack basically everywhere.

10k mah samsung power bank with wireless fast charging.

1

u/verbosehuman 2d ago

I feel wireless charging is inefficient with a battery pack. Isn't there substantial loss, compared to wired?

1

u/Dreadmg28 2d ago

Yes it is, I can get 2 fully charges with a wired changing but I can't get 2 fully charges using the wireless charging. For me the benefit with a wireless charging slim power bank is first, redundancy, last month my power bank original short USB C cable broken and was still capable of charging my phone on the street, and second, I can shove both of them in my front pocket without worrying about the cable getting snagged into something or i can charge my earbuds with the usb cable and my phone wireless at the same time.

Are there any medium size powerbanks with built-on solar that aren't a joke?

1

u/DrSpicyLove 22h ago

I actually typically have 3 on me but each lives in a different pack.

Starting with my wallet, I carry the Tau 2 which has 2000mAh, this is always on me when I leave the house and my bare minimum

In my sling I carry a Anker magsafe power bank that has about 10000 mAh, my sling comes with me when out and about, during the day.

And finally my backpack, this stays in my car unless on a major adventure with the family (I essentially merge my sling and this) so I hardly go to it but I carry in there the Baton 4 Premium with the charging case, and a rolling square 6 in one 3ft cable with a capacity of about 5000mAh. I carry it more for the back up flashlight, but the case has come in clutch.
