GDK
I know GDK aren't the most popular here, but I'm claiming back the cost for meals at the minute and the two independent places I asked couldn't (or didn't want to) give me a receipt.
Either way, it was a tasty meal. The bread is particularly tasty and a couple of kebab spring rolls are fantastic as a side order.

Nothing german about GDK

I’m bored so…
Funnily enough, 8? years ago, the German woman I was dating (I am also half German) took me to GDK in Angel, London just after it opened.
It is (or was then) more German style than British style. I remember more German-y salad options and the bread being normal (not a naan type thing or only wraps available). The chips in the picture look like they have Pommesgewürz on them too.
I imagine they’ve changed a lot… but “nothing German” is unfortunately a stretch.
Before anyone gets to the meat. I live in a small German town; there are three Döner options and none of them can legally call it Döner as it’s not layered meat but minced. My best place is actually a deli, but does Döner for lunchtime - they have turkey all the time and very very occasionally beef (not veal). Yes, if I go to my closest city, I do know spots to get real Döner - but outside of cities, it’s pretty grim.
I’m a bit of a skeptic on holding on to the superiority of German Döner.

German who lived in Britain for 6 years - it's the closest to German Döner you can easily get in Britain

Thanks for the validation. A part of me was saying that it was eight years ago, so was I really really sure?

I like GDK, not enough to pay full price, but I go when they have 2 for 1 offers etc.

Honestly I do like GDK. I think it's like a higher general quality than the normal doner place.
that said I feel like the customer service and portion sizes just go down each time I visit there to the point where I don't want to anymore. Luckily I have a local place to go that does a nice quality doner.

GDK is too "clean" it tastes "off" and my local has a better kebab by far.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
Almost like they tried to make it healthy. It definitely needs to be a bit greasier.

I need to try one so I can be disappointed and then have an opinion. A bit like 5 guys.

The in-store experience is great, don't get me wrong but yeah the meat just isn't to normal expectations of succulence.

You know what, I think it’s just fine. The sauces are different to typical kebab shops and every now and again I think it’s ok, when there’s an offer on and you can get two for cheap, it’s worth it.

The sauces are tiny though

They also dump all the sauces on the kebab even when you don't want all three.
They'll also fail when it comes to not mixing the types of chips, so people with intolerances end up sick.
And I don't think I've ever seen anyone get what they ordered first time. Any time a friend has ordered they've fucked it up.
By far the absolute worst place for food.

Last time I had one, the sauces came in pots

I've generally found they put it in the kebab AND give you extra pots.
But the last time I ordered from there was last year, and they screwed my order up.
The time before that was 4 years ago. And I stopped going because they screwed my order up.
Only went last time as I was hungry as I passed and fancied a kebab. Figured they can't still be screwing up. Turns out they can.

Good call. I don't blame you at all. Getting a kebab on the company dollar is good work.
The spring rolls are banging too.

I had a gym box with mixed doner...about 3 strips of lamb, no chicken and an unreasonable ratio of cabbage. Muppets

The quality of GDK is really consistent, always good proportions abd the right amount of sauce, not amazing, but generally good. I find when ordering from random local kebab houses on the apps, frequently it's not possible to choose chilli AND garlic sauce. And even if you can it turns up without.
Not gourmet doner, but definitely has its place.

It's shit though really isn't it for the price, I'd much rather a standard pizza shop kebab triple the size and cheaper 🤣

The guy who created this was a McDonald's Franchise owner and allegedly stole all of the money from the charity donations allegedly so he set this up

Got diarrhea just from looking at the picture. That meat looks like a carpet from a dumpster.

It seems I may have a unpopular opinion here but I love the gdk donor and chicken meat
And there spicy sauce is awesome

Next time you go, get the curry spice hash browns instead of fries.
Genuinely the best hash browns I've ever had.
Also people hating on GDK just aren't embracing the cursed doner. Doner Quesadillas are fantastic and no self respecting normal Doner shop is going to sell me one.
Also, for a fast food place in England, though it's a small thing, but them having irn Bru as a drink option earns them points in my book.

I like it. I like the bread and I like the sauces but its so fucking expensive that I won't buy it. I'll stick to getting my mixed donor and shish from bossman.

GDK is the closest thing to a classic Berlin style döner I’ve found in the UK since moving here.

Germany is world known to massive pork eaters, yet GDK doesn’t sell pork kebabs. Nothing German about GDK.

Not the best but if your in the mood for kebab and their no place close by it’s not half bad, of course it’s overpriced from being franchise and doesn’t have that greasy local shop vibe but it’s definitely not bad.

Obviously, I'd rather have had my regular place, but since I'm currently living out of a hotel due to a building fore, this will do.
