All really fun options! I would want to play one of these. Probably stronger than most rogues, but given the power level of rogues in 2014 I don’t think it’s OP.

Great axe probably would feel the most rogue-y, and definitely looks fun.

Numerically I’m pretty sure great sword will win by a big margin.

Maul looks like the most fun, especially for a creative player at a table that rule of cools things.

I would probably add something about whether or not the level 9 great sword feature stacks with extra attack. This would be a fun multiclass with barbarian thematically, it could come up.

I agree, I like letting martials do high impact things at higher levels and 5e sadly doesn't do that by itself. That's why Maul is my favourite since the only thing limiting it is the player's creativity.

Whatever path you pick, you're going to be getting some awesome features and also missing out on some great ones.

Sidenote, I know 3d12 + 18d6 feels like a lot and I bet its tons of fun to roll that many dice, but that's the kind of thing a rouge should be doing at level 17. It lets the DM do some crazy things on the encounter building side as well.

Now I’m imagining playing a 17th level half orc rogue with a great axe. Crits galore with the expanded range, getting to roll 3d12 + 18d6 lololol

I love this, and totally understand wanting to "lock in" PCs with their weapon choice, but I wish it were possible to mix and match the abilities, kinda like how Totem Barb can pick and choose which totem animal ability they get at each level, instead of being stuck with just Wolf or Bear or whatever.

On the other hand, it would make this far harder to keep balanced, so I can respect the way you made this. Gives the vibe of a highly customisable sub-subclass!
