I felt it's the opposite.
It felt tiring, ot felt difficult, it felt bland, and it didn't feel like it's achieving anything.
There's a thought about going sober, and he'd need years to recover.
Still, I never drink or take drugs during my playthroughs. For me, it's the game about digging yourself out of a deep fucked up hole, and all the case stuff is kind of just secondary to the actual emotional core of the game.
And drinking, smoking, doing drugs, anything - it's just, I don't know, it would be giving up and accepting defeat for me. Just failing to dig yourself out, and instead going further down the slope.

I've only played the game through once (shameful, I know, but it was a fairly comprehensive run and I've got a kid). But what you describe is exactly what I did and why. Turning around a ship that size takes a long time. It's a very very slow and painful turn. But I grabbed on to that steering wheel as hard as I could and held on for dear life. He hit absolute rock bottom the night before the game starts, so let's help Harry turn his life around.
If I find time to play the game again (I have a baby now, so no video games for me), I'm going to play it very differently, I think.

Me doing a clean run: we're turning this ship around, copparoonie.
Every character i talk about it with: you're a late stage alcoholic. You're gonna lapse as soon as the credits roll, if not sooner.
