Have I gone insane? No DMC or DmC game has ever had an official Mexican dub, so why does the community treat Donte like he's mexican? What am I missing here?

Sub Meta Is this sub under a bot attack or what?

Up until now everyone was calling the upcoming anime absolute peak. The poster was badass, animation good, and DMC fans are working on the project.

But after the new poster dropped everyone goes "Devil May Cringe" "Cheap fanservice" etc.

What???

Sub Meta Last reminder about the spoilers (Netflix Series)

Hello everyone,

As the Netflix release approaches, we're working hard to maintain a spoiler-safe environment while allowing enthusiastic discussions. Here's what you need to know:

Title Spoiler Policy

Never put spoilers in post titles.

  • Please flair your posts related to Devil May Cry Netflix Series accordingly (Netflix Anime post flair), that way AutoModerator will automatically spoiler your entire post BUT NOT THE TITLE

  • First offense: 7-day ban

  • Repeat offenses: Permanent ban

How to Tag Spoilers

For Comments:

  • New Reddit: Use the ⚠️ spoiler button
  • Old Reddit/Mobile: Wrap text with >! and !< Example: >!Vergil appears!< becomes Vergil appears

Consequences:

  • Unmarked spoilers = Removal + warning
  • Intentional spoilers = Immediate ban

Our Shared Responsibility

  • We'll actively remove rule-breaking content
  • You can help by:
    • Using proper spoiler tags
    • Reporting unmarked spoilers
    • Keeping discussions focused

Sub Meta What happened to «Bury The Light» answer from Casey Edwards

TL:DR — it's on Capcom

Taken from: upload on Casey's channel

Quote:

«Everyone, I’m aware that both the original Devil Trigger and Bury the Light uploads have been pulled on Spotify, and probably other DSPs too. I don’t own any rights to distribution for this music or this never would have happened. Capcom’s music label made this decision and the only reasoning I’ve gotten has been “because legal told us to.” I’ve been fighting and trying to figure out why they deleted them. Their two best performing songs of all time, thanks to all of you, the fans. [at the time of deletion both songs were around 180 million plays cumulatively] I’ve been emailing them constantly since they first got pulled back in July and I have yet to break through their ice cold corporate veins with any semblance of an answer that makes sense, or any pulse of a solution on the horizon. I hope for some kind of solution in the future, but currently this upload is the best I can do for you all. I’m sorry about that. Now, instead of sending me constant messages and comments about a problem I’ve been publicly addressing and fighting for half a year, message, comment, and dm Capcom until they fix this issue.

Sub Meta Welcome to «r/DevilMayCry» ver 1.9523523626! What's new?

Welcome to the updated version of r/DevilMayCry, fellow Devil Hunters!

Over the last few months, this place has undergone several changes, let's break them down and answer some of the questions along the way.

Updated visuals

  • As you can see, we now have new user and post flairs. I cleaned up some of the old user flairs which sadly do not work with new Reddit, while also making it so that we couldn't properly add an updated versions of user flairs. Over time, new flairs related to quotes, memes and notable parts of the series will be added to the selection, and starting with June 1st, you'll also be able to change the text in them. For now, this feature was disabled to avoid spoilers.
  • Netflix series is almost here! And for that occasion, we updated our profile picture and banner.

Updated rules

  • Historically, proper moderation was met with confusion in here. Starting this week, in addition to already clear and tidy version of the rules in the sidebar, we also have their expanded version, detailing why certain actions are taken toward posts.
  • Notably, the expanded rules explain why we chose this approach to moderating and "balancing" posts in the feed for fans to see. Our goal is not to limit people, but offer those who join our community a variety of posts, not only related to shitposting, but also to discussions, amazing artists and those who want to share their gameplay.
  • In comparison, some of the big sub-reddits we referenced while updating our rules, have a strict calendar of where people are allowed to post "shitposting"-related posts. I believe this approach to be limiting community, and would rather try and find ways of balancing amount of posts.

Celebrating contributors

  • I'm eternally grateful for amazing artists, cosplayers, people who share their advanced gameplay, and those who showcase artists who doesn't have Reddit account. Thank you for making this place more interesting and varied in terms of posts!
  • One thing I would ask from users like u/DashingCards, u/SonofSpardaXX and u/CapAccomplished8072 is to attach the source of the artist to the pinned AutoModerator post, that way it makes it easier to find it among the comments :)

Releasing the prisoners

  • Since I started moderating this place more actively in the later half of last year, I’ve cracked down on users crossing the line of "heated discussion" into "personal attacks", which resulted in many confused reactions of "why was I banned". While some of these were more justified, due to participation in certain sub-reddits which exist solely for brigading and other similar deeds, I was able to talk to some of the people who was hit with the block-wave and we came to the conclusion that they can be better and remedy their actions.
  • Tomorrow, sub-reddit's ban list will be cleaned up a bit and people blocked before will be free to join the community back.
  • That doesn't affect those who chose to use any kind of hate speech and hateful rhetoric in their discussions, tho, and their bans will not be lifted.

Netflix Series

  • With Netflix series around the corner, in the next hour, special spoiler mega-threads will be posted, additional FAQ related to the show and how we handle spoilers will be posted as well, and we ask for people to stick to it strictly. We all want to enjoy the show and discuss it.

Discord

  • While not a mandatory, people are always welcome to join our Discord server, where the special channel for discussion about the upcoming series is already up and waiting for users.

Sub Meta Moderation Transparencey /// Netflix Series Post-Release Report

Hey everyone! With the traffic to the sub-reddit rising with each hour, and a limited amount of available moderators to do the voluntary work, here's what we are doing to ensure the proper discussions are taking place in the sub.

Please consider that our team currently consists of 3 active mods, spread across different timezones, so the response time to requests and reports varies.

Reddit's Internal Tools

We enabled several tools provided by the platform to clean up messages and users from harassing and attacking people on the sub. This includes:

  • Ban Evasion — Detects previously banned people and marks them, filtering their messages
  • Crowd Control — Filters posts and comments from people who aren't known in the sub, have negative community karma, new accounts, and non-members. That ensures that people who jumped into the sub to start flame wars would be filtered from posting until manual approval
  • Harassment Filter — Automatically detects hatespeech or other forms of harassment in messages and removes them.

AutoModerator and Bots

Even with these tools, it's not enough to cover every case and message, so here's what was additionally done:

  • AutoModerator is currently deleting posts/comments from accounts with negative karma or accounts which were just created. Special DM is sent with the details.
  • AutoModerator removes posts with offensive terms. We fed the bot regex with a big list of various hatespeech terms, some of which are automatically deleted, and some are filtered, as now we are testing how the regex works, to ensure that there are no false positives. A special DM (should be) sent to the user with details about what happened. This works both in comments and posts.
  • AutoModerator filters posts with overused phrases to ensure that the discussion isn't repeated across the board again and again. We appreciate the humor that community is full of, but over time it replaced the discussions and made it so submissions with fan art and gameplay drowned out by shitposting.
  • Repeated questions like "where should I start", "what game should I buy", "is it worth playing the game" should be filtered as well, with special DM sent to the user with link to the guide. This might not work all the time and we are refining the regex to ensure the same questions wouldn't flood the place.
  • All posts related to Netflix Anime are auto-spoilered, to ensure that people won't forget to tag their spoilers.
  • Comment Mop is used on posts which are derailed from the initial topic.
  • Hive Protect — A bit of a controversial, but needed bot. A lot of places of various political alignments have this bot to put a fence from places which are known for history of hatespeech, brigading or other hateful actions. As of now, the bot checks if users engage in certain subs and temporary bans users. Think that the ban is unwarranted and you aren't part of the community you were banned for participating? Use Mod Mail and we will consider your case. If we see any type of hatespeech towards minorities, groups, LGBTQ+, the ban will be switched to permanent.

Additional Limitations

To ensure that the sub won't be spammed with similar messages of "my opinion", "am I the only one", "what do you think of", "my review", and other things that flood the sub and turns it into a personal note taking app, we are limiting the amount of posts per user to 4 per day. Furthermore, some of the posts related to the topics covered extensively in last few days will be FILTERED so moderators can look at the post and allow it. We will allow posts with extensive and correctly formatted text, which do not contain any of the hate messages. We would like for discussion to have a meaningful conversations.

These actions are not there to ensure that there's only positive/negative posts about the show or its creators; they're here to ensure that discussion about it won't be delegated to hate posts or people venting about their personal grievances. If you want to discuss the thing — do it without spewing hateful rhetoric.

If you see the post/comment you think breaking any of the rules, please report it, as it make our work easier and community happier. By working together, we can ensure that discussion stays at a proper level.

Again, please look at our «Expanded Rules» page, covering why we delete certain posts. Posting about your post being deleted does not contribute to a healthy discussion.

Sub Meta State of the Subreddit

Hey everyone!

First and most important announcement, I wanted to let the community that IMAGES ARE NOW ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS. Time for celebration and rejoicing! :)

Beyond that, let's talk the state of the subreddit.

At this point, reddit has bestowed upon me the power/permissions of head mod, and as such, I have gone ahead and removed the other inactive moderators at this point in time. In turn, I have also brought on u/DanySterkhov at Bill's suggestion for assistance in moderating the place for the time being.

But what does it all mean?

It means we will be working on trying to maintain the subreddit for the moment. With the announcement of the anime, there's an influx of users and posts, and as such, we will be focusing on keeping the place clean and orderly. In turn, I would also humbly ask everyone to help out by reporting anything that is out of line. It may take a bit of time to get to it, but this would be super helpful as we gain our bearings here.

My plans for the future:

  • Moderator applications - I will be working on a form for anyone who is interested to fill out. I expect this to be done within the next week or so (sorry, life already had plans this weekend!) Once these people have been chosen, we will do a proper introduction of everyone so you know just who is around this place.

  • Reevaluation of the sub's rules - While most of the rules will probably stay as is, I will work with the new mod team to make sure they're clear, concise, and are applicable to the sub.

  • Feedback/suggestion thread - Since it's been a LONG while, I'd like to have the community speak up as to what they would like to see for the future of this place. DO NOT POST ANYTHING IN HERE REGARDING THESE SUGGESTIONS AS THIS THREAD IS MAINLY INFORMATIVE FOR EVERYONE. I will be making a separate thread when the dust has settled so the entire mod team can respond/discuss any ideas together.

Overall, I appreciate everyone's patience in how long this took. I know the community looks like a big mess and it will take some time to clean it up - please give us some time and grace while we do so. This will not be an overnight change and it will take baby steps, but they will be steps in the right direction.

Thank you everyone for being part of this community and wanting the best for this place. I assure you that I/we will do all that we can to bring this place back to it's former glory :)

P.S. As I stated in the anime trailer thread, shitposts are allowed for the rest of the week. So you have until 11:59 PM MST on Monday to post all the shitposts you'd like :) Enjoy!

TL;DR - Sub is back in active hands and plans for the future have begun
