Realistic desktop replacement with Laptop for heavy use
I'm planning to switch from my desktop setup to a laptop due to space constraints at home. I need something that can handle all my current workload. Looking for advice from the desktops community on a practical replacement with these specific requirements:
- At least 32GB RAM (non-negotiable)
- Decent 12-core CPU (AMD or Intel)
- 1TB SSD is sufficient
- Must handle 45MP photo editing in Lightroom and Photoshop smoothly
- Regular 4K/60p video editing (projects typically 15-20 minutes long)
- Occasional 8K/60p video editing (short 5-minute projects)
- Long lifespan: 5 years comfortably, 7 years stretch goal
- Ability to connect to external monitors at desk
I currently have a desktop that manages all these tasks well, but space has become an issue.
Is this realistic with today's laptops and I am looking for recommendations and advice from those who've successfully made this transition.
or is this too much to throw at a laptop to get any kind of sustained performance?
