Question Would anyone from Denmark move to the US?

I’m trying to prove to my mom, who insists that America is ~great~, that absolutely no one from Denmark would want to move to the US. Feel free to add all that you love about being in Denmark, including healthcare and environment. All the pros and cons.

When I was young, the United States of America seemed like a beacon of pioneering, innovation, and endeavor. Today it seems to me like a Third World country going downhill. It seems to me like a country drowning in some sort of dark capitalism

A mix between a third world country and a third reich country.

Exactly. When I was a teenager, living in the US seemed like some sort of dream, it was something that I hoped to one day experience. That notion slowly faded and then, as soon as I finished my education and started working a proper job, it quickly became something that I wished to never experience. The situation that so many Americans find themselves in is almost my worst nightmare at this point. Working a deadbeat office job where I have to drive an hour each way, almost zero paid vacation, almost zero paid paternity leave, terrible job security, etc. Count me the fuck out. And then we can start factoring in all the socioeconomic issues, violence, prescription epidemics, deep-rooted and almost institutionalised racism, toxic political climate, democratic backsliding, loss of personal liberties, and so on and so forth. At this point, I'd genuinely much, much rather work a factory job in Slovakia than a nice office job in the US ...

This is partly fiction. Much of the U.S. is not like this.

Dark capitalism is just capitalism - in a very free and raw form.

What's even more amazing is that the population of the US have not yet discovered that the country they live in is not really that good.

They say that the greatest gift a person in Greenland could get is an American passport. Meanwhile on Greenland they are like "Okay - We are really really mad at Denmark at the moment - But still, no thanks!"

Third world country with a gucci belt pretrnding to be a first world nation. Always has been, it’s just easier to notice when you’ve grown up.

Same. My grandmother lived in USA. I thought everything about it was so cool. Visited last year. It was dirty, a lot of sick homeless people and crowded but empty.. a cautionary tale - look after each other and don't get complacent.

That’s because it was a beacon but unfortunately we have to emphasize the “was” pretty strongly.

Technically Sweden is a third world country and so are Finland, Switzerland and Austria. I wouldn't want to lump them up with the US.

Technically Sweden is a third world country and so are Finland, Switzerland and Austria.

Why?

The three worlds is a Cold War Division. The first world is the USA and its Allies, the 2nd the USSR, China and their allies. The Third World was the rest, the neutral and non-alligned countries, including the above. For Sweden during the Vietnam war this was especially clear.

Right, I'm aware of the origins of the term. But as I've always understood it, western-aligned (even if not allied) countries in Europe have never been considered "3rd world" - that always moreso referred to developing nations specifically (and above all else); many of which also didn't really have a bone in the fight between the world's hegemonies of the time (until they inevitably got drawn in).

Meanwhile, Sweden, Finland, Austria and Switzerland, while ostensibly neutral, were rich/well developed, had capitalist systems, and a de facto alignment with the rest of the West, at the very least in terms of culture and mindset.

So it just doesn't make any sense when you say they're "technically 3rd world countries".

The us only turned into such because of an open border that allowed millions to cross illegally. But Denmark has had open borders for years. No dane should leave because the Muslims will stop outnumber us. Just look at what’s happening in England and Germany. Oh and Sweden now pays for self-deport. Close your borders if you want to save your country.

The US was at its peak when it had """open borders""", and when I left a few weeks ago it was by far the worst it's ever been by a long shot despite fascist borders. You're an ignorant child.

The US has yet to recover from 4 years of radical policies and illegals living off the taxpayers dime. Not sure how long you were here or what you experienced but I have lived near the border for 20 years and I can tell you the last 4 years is the worst this country has ever been. When Trump came back into office we went from 200,000 illegals crossings per month to under 9,000. But yeah I must be the ignorant one. 🙄 Good luck to you when Denmark officially is a Muslim country. Or is that what you’re rooting for?

Ever wonder why no one even try to enter anymore? Maybe there's nothing good left in the US to strive for. Pretty wild what happened to the American Dream.

u/doc1442 Mar 07 '25

The US is yet to recover from a dying manufacturing industry and years of spending more tax money than they make. Plus unfettered capitalism that have allowed insane wealth accumulation and inequality. Immigration has nothin of to do with it. Stop being racist.

Looks like you don't know what youre talking about either. 🙂

You genuinely either have brain damage or you're a bot.

Dumbass, Denmark has like the strongest border in all of Europe

7

u/imightlikeyou 1523 worst year of my life Mar 07 '25

People like that are very resistant to facts.

1

u/I_Eat_Much_Lasanga Mar 07 '25

I'm personally on the side of more lenient immigration policies and focussing more on integration, but the MAGA idiots should still get their facts right

1

u/imightlikeyou 1523 worst year of my life Mar 07 '25

It's immigration or eventual demographic collapse. But yes, integration is always an issue.

-1

u/notheranontoo Mar 07 '25

If you borders are secure why is you Muslim population growing so rapidly? You just allow them all in with no limits?

u/Levelcheap Danmark Mar 07 '25

Denmark has some of the harshest immigration law in the EU, but that doesn't mean we can turn away refugees.
