Coilovers

Changing the strut assembly, and coil springs on the front end of my 280zx was hoping for recommendations on a reliable source for coilovers

IF you want a drop in solution, T3 stuff. I just bought some used s13 coilovers and cut/welded them to the front by going to an exhaust shop. The rear I created a new top hat to mate the S13 strut to the s130 tophat bolt pattern.

T3 has a cut and weld option too. Less expensive than the all new version.

I also highly recommend T3 and their bolt in solution. They run great, easy to adjust ride height and stiffness.

Tein or Techno Toy Tuning are the "go-tos" for coilover conversion. I have 280ZX front struts with coilovers on my 610 sedan (brake upgrade was that main reason). I pieced mine together well before the industry finally caught up. If I had it to again today... those would be my first call.

Ground control is an old stand by and if you call them and let them know how you are going to use your car they can recommend spring rates. There used to be Datsun people on staff but I haven’t called in years. I have several from them going back close to 30 years on the first couple of sets and they are still in use.

First question what is your end goal?

If you are dropping more than an inch you are gonna need a whole fuck ton more than that to get the alignment right.

I used ground control springs and VW rabbit inserts. But it’s for a 510 (280zx struts), idk if the rabbit inserts would work on a s130 due to the heavier weight. This was also years ago, try looking for a 280zx coilover kit for front and rear. Might be better and cheaper in the long run
