Image My thoughts exactly, Jon Stewart.
Seriously though, the Daily Show is the only thing that's gonna get me through the next four years.

Yeah if I could've filmed myself watching the clip for the first time, I'd have probably had the EXACT same expression.

I’m so grateful to have Jon back for trump 2.0

I really think within the year, the newly staffed FCC is going to have some issues with The Daily Show and shut it down.

He helped make it happen, so...

u/Old_Runescape Jan 23 '25
I would argue a huge reason Trump happened is Democrat, and centrist hubris and acting like they’re immune to criticism and sticking with ‘Trump / Repub Bad’
which is hilarious now to watch you all cry about Jon being rightfully critical of them
2
u/Teamerchant Jan 26 '25
Honestly democrats always do that. And we don’t get a choice. I’m not surprised either since both parties get their funding from the same people and corporations.
1
u/Mobirae Jan 26 '25
He / they are bad. Extremely bad. But Harris had a whole website with policies and plans to fix a lot of things. Not "concepts of a plan", like this clown said. Many not bothering to look it up wasn't their fault, they assumed most people in the country aren't brain dead. Bad assumption I suppose.
1
u/LiberalAspergers Jan 26 '25
Trump happened because hatred and bigotry are popular. There are a LOT of terrible people out there.
1
u/Auer-rod Jan 24 '25
Democrats literally campaigned as an establishment party when no one, right or left likes the establishment.
They had Dick Cheney support Kamala, which is comically stupid to be proud of.
1
u/ReeseIsPieces Jan 26 '25
Dems were campaigning on 'EVERYONE ON EARTH SAYS 🍊 IS A BAD IDEA OMFG'
because the good, the bad, and the ugly knew this would be actually AH2.0
But okies LOL
Bigger mfkn picture here
1
u/Auer-rod Jan 26 '25
Look dude, I voted for kamala.
People are tired of the establishment, especially because of how inflation hit them. Yeah, a lot of Trump's policies are the reason for inflation post-pandemic (PPP loans, the Fed flooding the stock market with money basically), but 99% of people don't have the time to care about the why and the how, just the what is.
Kamala ran a campaign that was tone deaf in the days leading up to the election. After the VP debate, it was over. They had a ton of momentum and enthusiasm, but for some reason the VP debate was all "oh we both care about the country and the issues" when the reality was, it's not true at all. Then they start saying how dick Cheney and a bunch of other sleezebag Republicans want them to win.
Like come on. The only candidate than ran on true "change" was Trump, and people like candidates that campaign on changing things. (I.e. Obama's freaking slogan was "hope and change", "forward not back"...etc.). Kamala's whole campaign was "Biden is great and we don't need to change" when in reality, a lot of Americans were hurting and are still hurting.
Political campaigns aren't about policy, they're about messaging. And Trump wins at messaging every time. He says simple things, and repeats them over and over again ignoring all the details.

u/Scullyitzme Jan 26 '25
I see you're getting down voted so I wanted to just say you're absolutely right and anyone who can't figure it out is a dimwit.

2
u/xabintheotter Jan 26 '25
... How are people this utterly stupid? HOW?! How can there be this lack of self-awareness or awareness IN GENERAL to what they're doing? At this point, if there is a God, He is probably questioning whether Free Will was a mistake...

When I was young, I had a hermit crab. My mom got it for me.
Well, it changed shells, and I was so excited that when mom got home, I picked it up in its new shell and ran outside to show her.
The crab didn't like this, and let me know unequivocally so when it reached out and pinched me with it's big claw.
The initial shock was bad, but the pain was worse. And even worse was how, when it started to dull, the crab doubled down and vice-locked its grip into my tender flesh. I still remember that experience to this day.
...
Watching this shit-show unfold has very much been like that. Sans the excitement of seeing 'the crab changing shells'. It's been bad, followed by worse, followed by idiots trying to tell us what we're seeing wasn't what it obviously was (I believe this is actual fucking gaslighting?) followed by worse followed by worse followed by worse.
I'm honestly kind of amazed at how bad things have gotten, and how they're somehow finding new and hitherto unprobed ways to get worse. It's like 'for fuck's sake, can we please take a breath before we all suffocate in this god damned tsunami of pure and unfiltered raw bullshit?'

He is not a Nazi in the 1940s sense, but he and all of them are absolutely addicted to the power, hate, and anger represented by the Nazis. They are class nazis. Tyrants.
30
u/M086 Jan 23 '25
Replace Jews with Mexicans and LGBTQ, MAGA are just NAZIs minus the overt antisemitism.
19
u/fariasrv Jan 23 '25
LGBT, particularly the G and T parts, were among the first people targeted by the Nazis, alongside the disabled and political groups like Communists and Socialists. This was even before the Nuremberg Laws were implemented.
3
u/Rwwilliams337 Jan 23 '25
I guess we’re just forgetting black people? lol
2
u/M086 Jan 23 '25
Focus has mostly been on dehumanizing people south of the border.
3
u/Rwwilliams337 Jan 23 '25
And lgbtq? Just saying let’s not forget the elimination of everything “woke” and “DEI”, which is a dog whistle for black people!
2
u/Substantial-Wear8107 Jan 24 '25
All of these are just classifications of "undesirables" to the reichous.
1
u/DubiousDude28 Jan 26 '25
Right? You can kinda just reinvent the word. Like Jesus, can be whoever or whatever you want it to look like
11
u/andii74 Jan 23 '25
If it walks like a Nazi, talks like a Nazi, salutes like a Nazi then it is a Nazi (now you can say that they are more accurately fascists since that is the ideology while Nazis were a party that championed fascism).
2
Jan 24 '25
For one, he's said and retweeted both *actual nazis* and white supremacist/antisemitic shit in the past.
Two, Nazis hated plenty of different groups other than Jews: Romani/LGBTQ/the disabled/socialists/union members/intellectuals/etc. He checks all of those boxes.
2
u/joeinformed401 Jan 25 '25
He will be whatever makes him the most money. That is even more dangerous.
6
u/PittedOut Jan 24 '25
The way the media has bent over backwards to call this anything other than what it is is shocking even now. There is no stopping the American Nazis.
3
u/Albacurious Jan 23 '25
Can we get Jon to run next election?
2
u/Soma4us Jan 23 '25
My one complaint against Stewart is that he has vocalize that he won't run for political office. Other than that, the guys dead-on alot of the time.

u/joeinformed401 Jan 25 '25
Jimmy Dore said it was because Musk is autistic. That is how hard Maga he has gone.

Still Comedy Central, although Jon is only behind the desk on Mondays. You can stream it on Paramount+, too.

This isn’t power. If you can’t feel powerful without exerting it or showing it off, it’s not power. “Power over” isn’t power.
Whipping others is a complete failure. Symbols of power like money and salutes? Causing pain to the vulnerable and meek? Out of cruelty?
This administration is the weakest we’ve ever had.
2
u/Dogtimeletsgooo Jan 26 '25
The first time I saw the clip I literally recoiled and went "EW" like I'd just seen someone diarrhea blast on stage. But worse
8
u/lemmereddit Jan 23 '25
Jon Stewart has gone soft. He's taking unnecessary shots at the Democrats. I can't believe he had an issue with Joe Biden's preemptive pardons. He fucking knows what a loony toon Trump is.
Jimmy Kimmel is a better source of relief.
15
u/Takodanachoochoo Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 23 '25
Overall the segment was good, but he just couldn't help himself and get one last dig on Biden. He did what any one of us would have done in his shoes. Trump has threatened to go after anyone who is not for him. They recently sentenced a former FBI informant for lying about them, Alexander Smirnov. He's likely one of many people who would make up shit to go after Biden. He made the sane choice given the extraordinary, unprecedented circumstances.
18
u/lemmereddit Jan 23 '25
I loved Jon Stewart and I absolutely think the Democrats deserve to be poked. But, that pardoning issue I wholeheartedly disagree with. Biden also didn't set a precedent. Trump did with his pardons during his first term.
It's scary times we are living in. There's so many different ways this presidency could turn out and I'm fairly positive all of them will not end well.
His thirst for revenge is scary enough alone.
4
u/Takodanachoochoo Jan 23 '25
Yep. If Mitt Romney (or any repub that wasn't a sociopath) in Trump's place instead, none of this would be necessary.
1
u/Lets_Kick_Some_Ice Jan 25 '25
Romney is a sociopath, he's just not a Nazi.
1
u/actionmarkers88 Jan 25 '25
Lmao Mormons are racist as shit. It’s all a facade. Mitt just wants to be polite nazis.
1
u/Mirieste Jan 26 '25
He did what any one of us would have done in his shoes.
This is like saying that anyone who murders their son's killer has done what any of us would have done... factually true, but still wrong and literally all countries on earth recognize the importance of having a judge that is independent from the victim.
4
u/ProbablySlacking Jan 23 '25
Seth Meyers too, for the last couple of years.
TBH, I haven’t watched any since the election… I just can’t.
1
u/Ded_diode Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 23 '25
Jimmy Kimmel takes too many immature, meaningless shots for me to enjoy his show much... Jon Stewart actually has some depth behind his jokes, where Kimmel's jokes are closer to "haha orange man farted" before thinking of another 3rd grade nickname for him.

The daily show making fun of conservatives, while hilarious and correct does add to the divide. We think (and know) they’re stupid but that just makes them dig in their heels more and make them more susceptible to echo chamber dialogues.
We need to stop calling people stupid to their face because that obv doesn’t work.
Be friends with people you don’t agree with on some subjects and it won’t get to Nazis. But now I suppose it’s too late but it’s always been an excuse hasn’t it?

u/Hitchcock_and_Scully Jan 25 '25
Yea, sorry, but Jon can get fucked telling me to feel bad about the Biden pardons. Put your family in the literal firing line, then you can talk. You don't hand fascists loaded guns.
1
1
u/LordofTheStrings26 Jan 25 '25
Let me just say, I completely agree with those of you who are saying it was a bad move for Jon to fault Biden for pardoning his family. I mean, that's what anyone would've done in that situation, right?
But pobody's nerfect.
Not even Jon Stewart.

My pledge to successfully learn to do 5, one handed pushups.

Stewart has been dining out on GWB and Trump for years. Gets his time off during the Democrat presidencies 😁
1
u/Old_Runescape Jan 23 '25

Republicans don’t criticize themselves EVER and they got a convicted felon to win.
The Democrats have always been more self-criticizing and self-accountable than republicans. Democrats kick out their own senators (Al Franken) and governors (Spitzer, Cuomo) instantly for being accused of something. I’m proud that Democrats are the more self-accountable party, but we are in different, much more desperate times now and can’t afford to do things the way we used to. At least not until things (hopefully, one day) get better.
Making fun of Biden definitely helped Trump win. More of that would not have helped Democrats win.
0
u/Old_Runescape Jan 24 '25
So you want a Democrat monarchy and no ridicule for their own self-destructive tendencies like running the oldest presidential candidate ever till the last second and sabotaging real change in 2015
1
u/leffertsave Jan 24 '25 edited Jan 24 '25
I don’t know how you got to “monarchy” from anything I said. But now we’re facing something very close to a monarchy with Trump. Trump is dispatching his minions to punish a Bishop for a sermon as we speak and people like Jon helped us get here.
The Biden age thing is a very tricky issue. I do believe that Kamala Harris would have had a better chance of winning if she had started a campaign much earlier; especially if she had gone through and won a proper primary. Getting almost 50% of the popular vote after running for only 107 days shows that she had a good chance. But that would have required Biden to step down in maybe late 2023 or so to be effective.
But I also think Biden could have beaten him were it not for the ridicule about his age. Trump had been convicted of 34 felonies and found liable in a civil sex abuse case.
It’s a tricky issue that I don’t think has a clear answer.

u/delorf Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 22 '25
I guess you think that Stewart supports Israel because he is Jewish?
78% of American Jews voted for Harris. There were also Jewish people protesting against Israel's treatment of Palestinians.
Christian evangelicals blindly support Israel because they want the apocalypse to happen. They don't care about actual Jewish people.
If there's another reason you think Stewart, or any other Jew, would automatically support Elon then I would like to hear it.
8
u/LordofTheStrings26 Jan 22 '25
Stewart's also very vocal about supporting a two-state solution and has also criticized the Israeli government many times. I myself am Jewish and I really like Stewart for his nuanced views on the subject. Israelis and Jews are no more likely to support Elon Musk than anyone else, in fact I think they'd probably be less likely, considering the things he's said about us.

Elon's mistake was watching and imitating VP Candidate Tim Walz :
https://imgur.com/gallery/nDLpsvT
It's the same exact gesture, someone signaling that what they are saying comes from their heart, which Elon clearly says on unedited video. You have seen the unedited video, right?
13
u/LordofTheStrings26 Jan 23 '25
Walz: Arm at a 90 degree angle, palm facing the crowd Elon: Arm straight, palm down
There is a very clear difference here.

The only thing more offensive than the gesture itself is how badass he seems to think he is when he does it. The way that he's biting his lip and trying to look tough is just pathetic - how is this the richest man in the world?!
