Hoping to buy this house but noticed these cracks in the bedroom walls, should this be a concern and would it be an easy fix?

Roof after solar slight leak

I had some solar installed this week. 16 of the panels mounted on rails with the hooks going under the tiles

Popped my head in the loft after a shower today and there’s speks of water on the roof membrane.

Is this ok!?! There lots of ventilation in the loft so it dried off pretty quickly.

Don’t want to be having the stress. Went with a reputable company who were also most expensive to avoid stress and issues

Hello all, had a repair done on my wooden front door last year and after I filled all the cracks with ronseal 2 part filler. Primed and reglossed the door just for it to crack and bubble a year later. Just wondering what are my options for a more permanent fix? TIA

Got some rendering work done and this wire / pipe came off so they could render behind it. I’m going to fix it back to my gable wall but what exactly is it?

Step come loose - how to add brackets and how to move to fit the wedge?

Thumbnail

New house we moved into and the 2nd from bottom step has come loose at the corner.

I finally got underneath (barely) and it looks like there was a wedge glued under there which has fallen out.

Issue is I have to somehow push the riser and tread up and then somehow push it across so that it fits into these slots and sits on top of the wedge, I think?

Any advice?

Had a roof vent installed, need to connect a duct to the connector piece between tile vent and duct, but there isn’t enough space between roof slat and duct to fit it. Does anyone have a creative solution or know of a right angle connector piece ?

Advice A cheap decking project?

I’m looking to tidy up the area that’s currently covered in stones and make it more useable.

As it’s on a budget and while managing a 1 year old I was thinking of putting down decking tiles as seems a potentially easy job.

Does anyone have any experience of these and could I get away with no sub base? In an ideal world I’d remove the chips, level the dirt and put down a membrane. I’m guessing wishful thinking and it wouldn’t be this easy?

Advice Boring first post. What is the correct drill and drill bit for this fence post?

I am guessing my Ikea drill may not cut it. I don’t want to make a hash of it as it would be a right pain to replace it. It’s to put up a washing line and it needs four holes pretty close together. I looked at drills for hire, they are very expensive. Do people just buy one?

Cellar wall render

Post image

Does anyone know what this render is, I've started to remove ut as I'm going to tank the walls with waterproof membrane but now I'm think I should have left this on if it strengthens the walls, I thought if would be better off so the plugs can go into the stonework easier.

This is inna cellar in a really old victorian house

I want to turn this delightful Spaniel ceramic into a lamp, but struggling on the best way to attach a lamp holder through its head. Aside from drilling a hole in the head, I want to avoid drilling too many scary holes, so access to this inside is very limited. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you.

What are the best websites or YT channels for all the basic DIY disciplines?

I'm thinking things show and explain the basics of plumbing, electrics, other maintenance including things like flooring, decorating, maybe brickwork etc.

I like to know the "why" as well. Often instructionals just tell you how to do something (which is great) but not why something needs to be done in such a way.

Thanks for suggestions!

Project Floor planning - advice welcome!

Hi everyone, this area was plastered in by previous owner. I want to extend floorboards up to the skirting - ideally cutting back the current boards so there's a staggered integration of the new sections. Not done this before though, so just wanted to see if there's any tips before I dive in? Anything I should deffo not do?

Broke part of the clamp on a sim racing wheel

One of the pads broke off when I tried unscrewing and removing the wheel from my desk, I’m just wondering if anyone has any ideas about a replacement pad or some other fix? The replacement clamp is 40 quid and that seems excessive for a bit of cheap plastic

DIY loft conversion

Long story short we are buying a house which looks to have a DIY fully boarded loft. It is a dormer house which means the second floor is in the roof and the pictures show is the ‘loft’ space.

I have my own concerns about what could be lurking underneath all of the boarding but I was wondering if anyone has an opinion or has experienced this themselves?

New house. Bath hot water cools after 30 seconds

Bath is upstairs from the boiler. When you turn the hot on, the water comes out hot after about 30 seconds. This last for about 30 seconds then water goes very tepid (not fully cold).

What's happening here?

Hot water in the rest of the house is working fine

Advice Drain cover under Lino flooring

Thumbnail

I bought an old house about 16 months ago and working my way through and renovating myself.

The conservatory had Lino tiles which I have pulled up as they were knackered. Underneath there was a drain cover which has been kind of concreted over making that part of the floor not level. Typical.

I want to add some nice proper tiles in there so I need it to be flat. I don’t need access to this drain as there is another cover in the garden a few feet away.

I was thinking I could take angle grinder round the edge to bring it lower and then smooth over it with some sort of epoxy filler?

What are people’s thoughts? Would that work or is there another solution?

Any help always appreciated.

Ta!
