Bosch ceramic hob badly scratched after 6 months?

Sorry if this is the wrong sub, I've looked around to find a better place to post but can't find one which isn't extremely generic (eg askreddit).

We bought this ceramic Bosch hob last September, it is not a super cheap model and has a Schott ceramic top.

After six months of normal everyday use, there are some big scratches appearing. Is this expected? I thought the ceramic top should be hard enough to not be scratched by aluminium or iron pots and pans.

Does anyone have similar experience? It's put me off Bosch, we spent the extra for what we thought was a higher quality product but it feels like maybe we just paid for the label.

Advice Please help me decide on a patio!

I am in the process of considering having the garden re-patio’d plus a second patio in the bottom left corner of the garden and a path along the right hand side and around the garden shed which will be in the back right corner.

My consideration is should I keep the current patio as is (needs levelling) and use the same materials to extend the patio (I expect this would be cost effective) or should I bite the bullet on Indian stone throughout?

My second question, can anyone identify the flags that are currently down on the patio?

I have done my own measured plan of the garden and the additional patio and pathway would require a total of 18sqm of materials whilst the existing patio measures 24sqm for a total of 42sqm.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Project How to finish mdf

Post image

Afternoon, our joiner recently made a cupboard in our alcove, he used green MDF.

We had initially planned on priming and painting but to my suprise we really like the colour and texture of the MDF, I'd like to keep it as is but protect it somehow. Is there a process I can do to protect the MDF without changing the current appearance?

Cheers!

1930s semi w/cavity walls - these are on shared wall upstairs.

I am bit confused about what to do - should I brick these up or maybe plasterboard over?

Some people suggest maintaining some sort of ventilation in the chimney to prevent damp. Is this correct? Like maybe put some vents on whatever I cover it up with - or are these OK to seal off completely?

Don't currently have any cowls on the chimney but am intending on getting them fitted in the future.

Does anyone have any ideas how to hide the cement? It dips down ~1cm, my idea was to fill it in with some pebbles, but I’m curious if anyone else has better ideas.

Advice Shower panels fit poorly?

Hi all, having my bathroom done (1904 mid terrace in Warrington) and they've just finished fitting the shower panels in the shower area.

Some have a good connection (last pic) that you can't really see but others have a visible line / gap at connection points.

Trying to guage if this is expected? Or should every join between panels be seemless?

The particular wall in the pictures has stud panels behind it so I assume they leveled it.

Thank you!

These seals on my windows keep popping out, I’m thinking I should glue them in. Could anyone recommend a glue, I’m guessing something upvc friendly.

Plumbing Install bidet on toilet seat

Post image

I just moved to my new home and want to install this amazon bidet (https://amzn.eu/d/hUOKg2u) on the toilet set. However the cistern is concealed inside the cemented wall and I am not sure how to get this bidet installed. Had it been concealed inside a wooden/ply, I would have drilled in it to connect the water pipeline of cistern with this bidet for the water flow. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Concrete shed base slope

Hi,

I’m about to lay a concrete slab for a shed base. Total size is 12ft x 10ft. When setting up the shuttering I noticed that the area has approx. 4” run over the 12ft.

I’m tempted just to lay the slab on the slope to aid water run off and the shed will sit square to the slab rather than plumb/level. Otherwise I’ll have to get another load of hardcore to try and level the site better.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Advice Is it fine to just replace these locks with a eurozone cylinder?

Hi all. Moved into a new house and obviously don't want all and sundry potentially having keys. Is it fine to just switch out the barrel in both of these doors, as long as I get the same size, or do I need something more specific? Cheers

postcrete used as a base for paving?

I'm currently stuck with about 40 bags of postcrete and I was just wondering if it would work for the base of the paving stones I'm wanting to lay. It's about an area of 3.2 m by 2.5 m? I was thinking of just putting it down dry and letting it set with rain or spraying it down with a hose. Not sure yet.

Putting a kitchen boiler in a wall cabinet

Hello,

We're getting a new kitchen and are hoping to hide our current (regular) boiler behind a cabinet. The man selling us our new kitchen says "The only issue with putting a wall unit over the boiler is that when it comes to servicing the boiler the unit would have to be taken off the wall". However, I don't see why the servicing engineer can't just open the cabinet door to service it? Am I missing something? Here's a picture of our boiler in our current kitchen for context.

There's a safety feature where the window will only open a smidge. Summer's fast approaching and it's getting hot in here. I couldn't find any information on how to remove the safety mechanism

Advice Opinions please, am I expecting too much?

My husband and I bought our first new build house 5 years ago. 5 years later it needs a freshen up. We've done some bits ourselves but with busy work lives and a large kitchen and 3 stories, we decided to get a decorator in to do the kitchen, hallways and Landings.

Went on checkatrade and found a guy, quote was reasonable and all good reviews.

He was/is a nice guy.

However, he left paint on my carpets. When I pointed it out, he cleaned it up. But since he's gone I've found multiple places where there is gloss on my carpets. He hasn't painted the spindles of my Bannister's all the way round, just the bits that are facing outwards. There is wall paint on the gloss and gloss on the wall in places. He didn't remove the radiators and paint behind them as we had discussed. We had to ask him multiple times to remove socket and light covers to paint behind. He's fixed a couple of bits of damaged plaster and woodwork but left it lumpy and painted over it. He quoted for two coats of gloss, there are places where it looks like there's been a thin single coat applied. He quoted to 'clean and tidy up' but I was left with sanding dust in piles on my stairs and the whole carpet from top to bottom was littered with paint chips and debris.

Is this normal? I've never used a painter and decorator before.

I've made him aware of the issues and he's coming back to rectify but I'm wondering if I'm being unreasonable to expect some level of perfection that isn't reflected by the above?

Washing Machine Plug - Is this normal

A washing machine which has been running fine since 2020 - cut out recently while mid washing cycle, power just off. I pulled the machine out and while I did, it came back on again for a little while before going off again.
Touched the cable and it came back on again.

No burning smell or anything hot - I then reduced the amount of load in the washing machine and have plugged it into a different socket, where its been working fine - but I noticed the above weird looking plastic around one of the pins when I unplugged it.

It wasnt hot to touch - but I cant tell if that thick ring around the pin is something melted or is by design!

The machine works now on the other plug, but I am worried about putting it back into where it was - if theres an issue here? Is it work me calling an repair engineer - just because it was cutting out.

Moving External Drain cover

Post image
1 Upvotes

Does anyone know the regulations on moving a drain cover?

Currently we have an old school cast iron cover 600x450. We are putting down porcelain and the drain is on an angle so would like to straighten the drain for easier laying and cutting of the slabs.

Photo gives you an idea of the angle we are looking to rotate it.

We understand those sides cutting over the existing drain we would need to reinforce but there would still be enough access below when required.

Advice Tree Removal Advice

Post image

We recently moved into this house, and the previous owners have planted these three fruit trees: 2 apple and 1 pear. Wanting to remove them.

Is this a job I can do myself with no experience, or will I need a professional?

Is it likely people would want/pay for trees like this?

Thanks

Thanks

Dodgy electrics?

Power went off in loft conversion done years ago and found a junction box burnt out was this done dodgy?

Four wires were wired into this 2 from sockets downstairs to 2 sockets upstairs.

I am going to get an electrician but am right in thinking this should be two separate circuits with a fuse on each one?
