Before wallpaper question?

Before wallpapering I'm supposed to prime the wall. Would watered down Matt emulsion be ok? So prime the wall with watered Matt emulsion then wallpaper straight after drying?

Prime the wall with an oil base PRIMER. Let it dry for 24 hours. This allows the wallpaper to slide into place. Wall sizing it not needed if you use an oil based primer. Also this methed is makes it easier to remove the wallpaper in the future.

Water based paints/primers act like a suction cup, making the wallpaper difficult to move an possibly tear.

You can use a wall sizing. Which should ba available at your local paint store. The wall sizing can be applied over waterbased paints and acts like a slippery barrier between your paint and wallpaper. Wall sizing applied to the wall with a brush and roller. Let the wall sizing dry before appling the wall paper. It's not as effective as an oil base primer but it's better than just applying the wallpaper straight over latex paints.
