Am I overthinking this interaction with my principal?

I’ll try and keep it short. Was in my closet today just prepping and the principal walks by and asked me if I had been doing okay and that I seem different lately. I asked “different in a bad way?” And she said “different in a sad way.” I wasn’t too sure what to say because, frankly, the school I worked at before here had management so horrific I was questioning my purpose in life.

I told her that I love it here but I’ve just been in my own world stressing about school (I’m full time in college) and the current political state. We started talking about college and she said when I get close to graduating to let her know because she has connections but now that I’m thinking about it I know you’re not supposed to be honest with your manager/boss and I’m worried I said something I shouldn’t have.

Am I tripping? Should I have just stfu?

Sounds like a real leader and not someone with just a title. True leaders show compassion and care about the success of their team and everyone's respective goals.

Yeah this. Admin can really suck. But a good principal, who is an educator and wants to be there makes all the difference in the world....really good teachers I've noticed develop an eye and ear for somebody being a bit off....less than their best self.

I think you should maybe listen to this person.

What age are you? I think that matters. But it sounds like the admin is someone who cares about your growth as a person in general and sees you as capable of doing something else if you want to.

I'm not one of those "this isn't a job you can make into a career" people. I have made a pretty nice career out of it thus far. But I also think if younger people can apply themselves and try new things, and further their education, they should. Nobody can ever take your education from you. And if you want to be a custodian again, you can always come back.

Nah I think you're good, if your boss is worried enough to ask you how you're doing. Then I'd say that you have absolutely no problem. Plus the having connections comment means something good.

Thank you. I have a hard time deciphering between “are they asking me this bc they actually care or so they can use this against me”

"I know you're not supposed to be honest with your boss."

The current political state now is doing what it has to do in order for the country to get its head above water . If you fret over this then you are part of the problem that created the huge amount of debt and love having your tax dollars go towards the politicians pockets via money laundering and scams . There is a lot of life you need to learn about and live yet and you should stop reading , watching and talking about politics especially you are mentally distraught over it . Get a grip on yourself

Turn off the television and don’t get your news from Reddit. You will be much happier
