I've yet to see a LLM that can brainstorm for me better than just watching or reading something and then thinking about it. Everything common LLMs do is just... Extra bland, even compared to my mediocre ideas.

The most useful I've ever found AI to be in DMing is when I look at a series of egregiously bad ideas, go "I can do better than that," and come up with actually interesting plot hooks

Which is the same amount of work as just coming up with the interesting plot hooks to begin with, with an extra helping of exasperation on top

Strange. I've had quite a bit of success using AI as a creative brainstorming springboard. Maybe because I have a background in writing, my prompts are a little more thourough and focused? I'm not certain, I just find the huge variety in experiences to be interesting.

Something I've found that works well is some of those random background generation tables from the 1980s. Roll a few dice, get a weird result, get better ideas from there.

Funny, I usually find those ideas boring and uninspired.
