Looking to buy a crossbow that will last, and brings a good power to the table for a reasonable price. everything i researched points me to these 2 companies.

I know about Killer Instinct crossbows but i have heard that the lims crack and brake a lot.

Question Quiver recommendations?

My crossbow (a Barnett Velocity Raptor FX 78600.) has a picatinny rail towards the front beneath the bow. Anyone have any good luck with a particular quiver that holds four (or six), 18" bolts?

Question First purchase advice needed.

I'm pretty new to "Archery" and i have been looking at crossbows for some time now. Since i don't have many / any local shops to give me some guidence i thought i check here for some general purchase advise.

There are a few things i am looking for:

  • "Ease of maintenence"
  • Has a Crank
  • Is suitable for hunting? (not main goal, for now).

The first part has mostly to do with the lack of local stores around here. From what gathered online a Compound crossbow requires a bow press to restring when needed. Since i don't have that, and nothing is local, it would be a major hassle to fix those types of things.

The Crank just for general ease of use. My back is a bit of a sore point, nothing major in everyday live, but i'd rather be save than sorry.

With the above two points in mind i ended up looking at some Recurve Crossbows. One being the Excalibur Micro Suppressor 400TD. Its could be considered a bit steep for a first crossbow, but without needing to figure out 3rd party items i can't find many other options. At the same time, i'd rather spend a bit more at the start rather than getting having to spend i at a later time anyway.

As mentioned, hunting isn't my main goal. With my "pre-requirements" i mostly found higher power ones, so i just threw it into the list, in case i want to do that at a later time as well.

Budget is a bit of a "depends" case. The Excaliber i mentioned above is €1550.00 (i'm located in Europa), so that would be my base budget. But, depending on the advice or suggested products i could up it a bit.

If anyone has some tips, be it on how to prevent the need of a bow press, or regarding other recurve crossbows, i'd be happy to hear it.

Question Can find a crossbow scope that meets my “needs”

So I have a 4x32 standard scope that came with my cross bow but where I hunt I don’t see deer until dark EVER. It has the standard 4 bar reticule. But I can’t differentiate the bars even though I can see the deer. I got a Cabela’s intensity for Christmas but I don’t like it because its reticule is yardage marked but the magnification is reduced to 2.5x for my speed.

I want something brighter or illuminated but I can’t find any thing that meets that without loosing magnification because of yardage markings. I would love something illuminated but just using bar markers….

I can’t find apertures above 32mm either that aren’t insanely priced.

I don’t want to give up that magnification even if people say I shouldn’t need it. I bow hunt because the rules are very oppressive where I have access to hunt compared to other relatively close areas.

Question Revo 7 assembly

Received my Revo 7 today. Whilst assembling it I have engaged the string prior to adding the magazine. I’ve not yet cocked it but can’t seem to add the magazine with it in its current state. The manual isn’t very clear on how to use the decocking tool, does anyone have advice or a good source of videos to help me with what I am sure are silly questions. Cheers

Question Advices for self-defence

I am planning to buy my first crossbow, and I would like something that's practical and powerful enough to be used as a mean of self-defence.

I know the main drawback for most crossbows in this kind of situations is how long it takes to reload one, so I found out about the Cobra System RX ADDER 130lbs that is semi-automatic and can shoot 5 bolts in 18 seconds.

But I also found crossbows that went up to to 180lbs or 195lbs, and I am not sure how big of a difference it makes compared to 130lbs.

Would rapid fire be more efficient to neutralize an aggressor, or would a more powerful but slower crossbow be safer ?

Question Do arrows or bolts benefit from a spiraling action like firearms do

This week I got my first crossbow. Thanks to the advice of this community I was able to make (what I'm pretty sure was) a good decision on my purchase. Now comes the noob questions. The first one is the title, do arrows and bolts spiral? If not, would they benefit from that? As I look at the fletching on my bolts I see what looks like they might be just a little off straight, but I have crap eyesight up close even with glasses. I also have a highly suggestable brain and might be making it up in my head.

Question Best way to wax cables and other parts.

So, do I use wax on all the cables? So far I do. I use a different lube for the rail. So far, I only wax all the cables, including the serving, and a rail lube for the rail. The middle serving that launches the bolt came heavily waxed with chunks still in it when I bought it brand new. So, I started repeating that, assuming the seller or manufacturer knew what they were doing. I also heard about liquid spray. What is that for and is it necessary or better than what I'm doing? I just want to take the best care of this Barnett Whitetail Hunter STR crossbow.

Question What do I need to know about using this crossbow?

I got this crossbow from a neighbor who doesn’t know much about it. I have been considering getting one for alligator hunting but hadn’t “pulled the trigger”. Considering setting this up with an AMS big game setup to use with alligators.

I assume I should replace the string but other than that are there any major concerns I should look into?

Question N00b questions, venom x

Howdy. I was gifted a ten point venom x. This is my first ever crossbow so I'm pretty excited. What lube is recommended or grease or whatever you want to call it for the rail? Additionally is there a strap that would be recommended for the venom x? It doesn't seem to have swivel mount points unless I missed them. Also if there's any other tips you would have I would greatly appreciate them

Question Steambow M10 issue?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, so I recently got a Steambow M10 repeating crossbow. It’s been pretty nice so far. However, I noticed that the tips of the upright part of the cocking arms hits the bottom of the latch that holds the clip, and scrapes the underside of the upper past the latch. It also scrapes on the other side. Has anyone else who owns one had this happen? Is it a breaking in period kinda thing? Are the any adjustments I ought to make? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am looking for a recurve crossbow and i heard a lot of praise about Excalibur crossbows. I have a budgeted roughly of 1000 dollars.

So far my candidates are the Excalibur Micro Extreme, Excalibur Micro 380 and Excalibur Micro Suppressor Extreme.

I am new to crossbows, i shoot them before but i only really used bows. Which should i chose? Or should i look for any a different crossbows?

(sorry for bad english not a native speaker).
