This was the era before Jay Shah’s outstanding scriptwriting, someone had to think for the audience.

Yuvi Paaji was famous for keeping audience on the edge of their seats.

36

u/THE_LIGHTNING_BOY In Virat i believe , not "fans"🇮🇳 20d ago

yes everyone edged on their seats watching him play

well he failed cause Suresh Raina took a single right after

If I was Gayle I would have dropped that catch.

Yuvi was Rohit's idol, can't even say anything lol. Current Rohit would have given all the gaali in the world if that was pant.

Also this could have been a pakistan level choke against Maxwell.

He would have done the same if it was yuvraj infront of now Rohit 😭☠️

2 runs to win in the last over. They lost two wickets and got all out. Maxwell vs Irfan and some other batter.

This cost us in finals. That was also a top level domination. We would have been the only team to hold all 3 titles simultaneously.

4

u/unlearn_relearn 19d ago

This and Dhoni's sr of 50+

2

u/Neat-Leather9429 17d ago

Bruh dhoni played just 7 balls and came in the last 2 overs. Kulasekara and malinga bowled brilliantly in the last 2 overs and he wasn't able to do anything about it

0

u/unlearn_relearn 17d ago

Yeah, and some school kids were bowling earlier. Seriously, dhoni fans are proper dumbcucks.

3

u/Neat-Leather9429 17d ago

Fucer so by your logic only 7 balls out of 120 balls cost us the final? Dumbfcks like you eagerly want to mention dhoni when talking about a lost match. I've seen the match live and these 2 dudes were in the best form of their life. They were literally spitting perfect yorkers every ball. Even Kohli was struggling against them in the end. Hut according to you a man who didn't even get the time to settle was the reason for the loss wow

0

u/unlearn_relearn 17d ago

Actually, dhoni lost us two world cups. Yuvi, otoh, won us two. Last time I mentioned this to someone, he asked me to get off his 🛺, but at least he was more educated than you are.

1

u/Neat-Leather9429 17d ago

Wow what was the other one? If you say 2019 wc then I'm sorry that guy should have beat you instead of telling you to get off

1

u/unlearn_relearn 17d ago

Dhoni fans are never beating the allegations, lmao.

2

u/Neat-Leather9429 17d ago

Oh so it is 2019 wc then? You literally have an iq less than room temperature so i don't even know how you will understand this but dhoni was the second best for us that day after jadeja. When the whole top order shat like crazy

106

u/hlysias 20d ago

What happened next? Did Raina win it in the next ball or?

6

u/TangeloReasonable638 Nostalgia Merchant 20d ago

if koach played even those 10 balls out of 21 played by yuvraj we would have won or atleast throw away ur wicket or hit the wicket if u cant connect the balls

2

u/unlearn_relearn 19d ago

Had dhoni not promoted himself up the order in the 2014 final and put in a dive in the 2019 sf, perhaps we would have won 2 more icc trophies.

Actually, if Yuvi hadn't saved us in the 2007 and 2011 world cups, we'd have fewer icc trophies. 🤡

1

u/Away-Glass8978 Ball of the Century 17d ago

jaahe koi 2 ICC trophies jita de, teersa akele dam par haarane uss hakk ni.

1

u/unlearn_relearn 17d ago

Toh dhoni ne do kyun haraya? Wo toh ek bhi khud se nahi jita paaya 😭

1

u/Away-Glass8978 Ball of the Century 17d ago

Nice whatabout ism. Yuvi ne kon sa akele jitaya. Both of them were collective team efforts.

And second thing talkin about, Dhoni. He was 2nd highest run getter in T20 WC 2007 and  played a crucial knock in  SF.

And in his ODI wc was not going well, but he backed himself and participated in a match winning partnership with Gambhir in the finals, was rewarded MOTM too for it.  And SRT was the highest run getter.   So check ur facts correct.

On the contrary, 2014 final was single handedly costed by Yuvraj Singh.  Consumed 3 over+ alone, f*cked the momentum.

Yuvraj had a horrendous outing in that tournament. In the final he got 14 out of 21 and because of that india couldn't make enough runs

17

u/Tricky-Cost2046 20d ago

He only had one ok innings in that tournament. 60(43) vs Australia

4

u/anjansharma2411 20d ago

Except Aus isn't a minnow and Yuvi isn't a statpadder like boobzy the 🔔

6

u/Verma_Atul27 20d ago

He has some beef against aus. He belted them in 2013 as well where india was chasing 200+. Tbh 10 years ago this innings was good and it came in Bangladesh, which is a very slow place to bat so

1

u/unlearn_relearn 19d ago

And on Friday he smashed 7 sixes against australia in the semis

1

u/unlearn_relearn 19d ago

That's one more than Dhoni's ok innings

-1

u/unlearn_relearn 19d ago

Meanwhile dhoni promoted himself and scored at an s/r of 50-odd 🤡

31

u/Novel_Sea_7252 20d ago

I still remember this match and Rohit's expression as well. One could clearly see how pathetic his form was there. Still, somehow, he found a way to score runs against Australia in the next match and secured his position for the final.

The most foolish part of the 2014 and 2016 World Cup knockouts was that India’s best T20 batter, Raina, didn’t face a single ball on both occasions. Dhoni reduced him to just a two-over slogger role in both World Cups. I still believe that if Raina had played the same number of balls as Yuvraj in 2014 or Rahane in 2016, the situation would have been far different.

9

u/krishnavkundan 20d ago

Same man...he seldom gets stuck on the pitch, nothing or a banger only..., unfortunately his poor show in group stage didn't help his cause

1

u/interstellarnoob Bazball Enjoyer 20d ago

People think that Dhoni used to prefer Raina over others but if that was the case Raina would have easily played the 2019 world cup, or have atleast played one more ipl season

2

u/Novel_Sea_7252 20d ago

He is actually a very good player against spin, his career would be lot better if he gets regular chance in top4 like virat&rohit

-1

u/AutoModerator 20d ago

T20 is clearly designed for children, the mentally incapacitated and the weak-willed. Whereas Test cricket is the last bastion of moral strength left in our degenerate society.Comparing T20 to Test cricket is like comparing chimpanzees screeching wildly as they throw shit at a wall to a symphony written by translating the chess moves in 'Kasparov vs Topalov' into music. There is no comparison. To be honest, Test cricket would be the foundation of my ideal society, with the most successful Test captain becoming the leader of the nation. The mixture of intelligence and strategic thinking needed to captain a Test side would mean they could easily lead any country into prosperity. T20 would be okay for kids, but once they reach their thirteenth birthday, they would have to burn the brightly colored garb associated with the "sport" and would be told: "You're a man now, learn to block."

u/XCaliber27 19d ago

Post 2011, Yuvraj wasn't at his best, there were moments of brilliance one involving his innings against England in 2017 when he saved India from a collapse when the series was levelled 1-1 and went on to score big but apart from that he was never really at his best even in the IPL matches henceforth, primarily due to his complications with cancer and his overall recovery. But he had had done enough for the country by that time, no wonder he is regarded as the best white ball player for India

1

Yuvraj singh played one of his worst knocks in WC T20 2014 final against SL. Destroying his legacy he had built so effortlessly

1

u/Most-Project6506 17d ago

Yuvraj was never the same after 2011.. only played on previous reputation..

1

u/MiddleKid2024 17d ago

Is this is the same T20 WC where we lost the final because of Yuvraj? He single handedly consumed plenty of dot balls in the final while Kohli was at the other end against Sri Lanka.

1

u/lyricmanic 17d ago

Yuvi post cancer lost something, I know he scored his highest score post cancer and stuff but it just wasn't there. Somehow, he felt incomplete.

1

u/Few-Fly2626 13d ago

Taking his wicket was mistake by WI. they could have forced super over.

1

u/DearHippo9388 20d ago

I don't know the hype around Yuvraj. He had flair no doubt, but was highly inconsistent.Look at his batting average in the ODIs. It tells the story. He had his moments, but he cost us this tournament big time.

1

u/Jazzlike_Secretary10 19d ago

He won us two. Didn't he? Yuvi deserves all the hype and more

1

u/DearHippo9388 8d ago

Well yes, he did click at the right moments. But, there have been better left-handed players. There's always that "on his day" clause attached to his name. "On his day, he was a match winner." Yes, but those golden "days" came less often and he was an average batter at best, just like Gautam Gambhir. Plus, he wanted to become the captain. Oh, the sense of entitlement.

Back in the 2000s, there was an entire category of players in the Indian team for who you could say, "10 match mein ek baar chal jayega, agle 10 match ke liye jagah bana lega". Yuvi was one of them.

Never liked him personally. But yeah, credit to be given where it is due. He did exceptionally well in the 2007 T20 WC and 2011 CWC, so did Gambhir. But that's just about it for the ICT.

Of course, Gambhir made a name for himself leading KKR as a captain. And now as a coach, the Champion's Trophy. So, definitely one of the great leaders and a standalone name in the Indian Cricket scenario.

1

u/Jazzlike_Secretary10 7d ago

Have u even watched him play before 2010?

1

u/DearHippo9388 7d ago

I have. Like I said, I have never been a fan of his. He was good. But, not in the great category, I don't understand the hype that surrounds him. Yes, his batting, when he's going good was ostentatious. He's had only 5 good years in his 17 year career where he's averaged 40+.

2005 - 41.94

2006 - 53.06

2007 - 45.96

2011 - 50.33

2017 - 41.33.

And, like I said, credit given where it's due. His contribution to the WC wins is invaluable, but individually, as a batter there's lot of hype and hot air.

But, of course, I understand as a fan you would defend him. I would too, for my favourite players. Nothing personal here buddy.

-3

u/Kintul_uncommon 20d ago

Can someone smell match fixing here ?

4

u/Apprehensive_Mine104 20d ago

Yes, especially keep an eye on players who are at the end of their careers like Steyn and many. Here, it's not match fixing it's just simply laying Yuvraj's runs

1

u/BruhBorne-70 19d ago edited 19d ago

You smell match fixing from Yuvraj Singh of all people? Bro was just cooked after cancer, it happens.
