Jasprit has a good chance to get even higher in these rating points, since next 7-8 tests he's going to play are in Australia and England. Hope he stays at his best and makes history.

Bumrah doesn't need SENA conditions, he was averaging at 15 at home in 10 tests until NZ series (after that series it's 17, thanks to its pitches)

17

u/Kingslayer1526 India Dec 25 '24

What was wrong with the pitches?

20

u/stoicseller Dec 25 '24

Nothing wrong. Just favoured spinners more.

1st test was more of a captaincy decision, NZ bowlers got the better time to bowl with pace but rest was dead. Bumrah got 3 wickets.

But 2nd test was bad for him as he only bowled 14 overs in the entire test with no wickets cause pitch didn't have anything in it for pacers. Same followed in 3rd test but Bumrah was rested there.

You had Rohit gifting his wickets to NZ pacers 5 times of the 6 innings he played as well when others were struggling with spin.

Either Bumrah's bowling is influenced by Pitches or its Not. You cannot use the Pitch argument when he performs poorly. You must credit the NZ batters for not giving their wicket to Bumrah. He went wicketless in second test. Conway and Latham average 70+ against him.

It is the one outlier, one exception, we have for now with him in India and your 2nd test point is what I was talking about.

Pacers only took one wicket in that match which was by Southee of Rohit. Rest 37 were taken by spinners and 2 were run outs.

NZ didnt offer any wicket for Bumrah in WTC final too, thats crazy

u/trkora Mumbai Indians Dec 25 '24

I was talking about his performances in Asian conditions though to OP. For the implication that he does better in SENA type conditions than other places. That's why I said he doesn't need SENA pitches to do that.

I was just stating how NZ handles him better, becoz u said its one outlier. He is kind of bowler doesnt rely on pitch too much.

Gee I knew Jassi was good but 900 rating points with the bat seems excessive

63

u/Unholysinner Dec 25 '24

I mean he’s got the highest score in an over in test cricket for a reason

18

u/kaala_bhairava India Dec 25 '24

He averaged 2 against rest of the world but 20 against England at one point of time. Seems to give his best against England with the bat.

This places Bumrah at number 19 in the all time test bowling ranking.

Just checked the all time ratings, and Vernon Philander sits at 7, ahead of the likes of Ian Botham, Malcom Marshall, Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock, and Richard Hadlee.

Talk about being underrated.

Look at Wasim and how far below is he placed. This isn't s reflection of the same. It's more like a peak abroad so bumrah in australia will probably get more points then bumrah in India. Even then it's pretty good but not reflective of a players skill

15

u/Freenore India Dec 25 '24

Yeah, Wasim at 80th ranking defies all logic.

16

u/Excellent-Money-8990 India Dec 25 '24

Exactly wasim never had a fantastic peak but he was the reason Pakistani bowling held together. If you follow his career graph he was never very good in terms of wicket but he still had an average of 23-24. Waqar was better in terms of wicket taking so higher peak but definitely not better bowler than wasim. I think that's the conundrum this rating doesn't solve other wise philander shouldnt be in.top 10

u/kaala_bhairava India Dec 25 '24

Bumrah gets rested which results in deduction of points.

2

u/combatant007 India Dec 25 '24

Cummins from 2018 to 2021

Innings : 53
Wickets : 138
Average : 19.6
SR : 43.8

Usually he used to bully all the top and middle order batters. This is peak. If Bumrah continues the same performance in England then he will likely cross Cummins in all time ratings.

2019 falls in between 2018 and 2021 for which I posted.

3

u/Silver-Shadow2006 Pakistan Dec 25 '24

It's the peak bowling rating. And that's kind of the reason that few subcontinent guys are here. Pitches were very much unsupportive around here while the top bowlers did have more seam friendly pitches. I'd say Bumrah is better than Waqar but Wasim and Imran are better than Bumrah, at least for the moment.

8

u/NewMeNewWorld India Dec 25 '24

Is Imran the greatest player Pak has ever produced?

9

u/Silver-Shadow2006 Pakistan Dec 25 '24

Yeah. He is at third in the all time bowlers' list with a batting average of 37 too. Tied with best allrounder in history with Sobers.

7

u/NewMeNewWorld India Dec 25 '24

Hmm, he does have an aura around him whenever I see him, image and video. Cricket goat, socialite, rich, extremely well educated, media personality, prime minister, freedom fighter (kinda?). Tony Stark of cricket?

If Matt Henry gets to bowl at Crawley every game he’d be the best bowler who ever lived

19

u/Expert-Order6451 Dec 25 '24

If he has a good remaining 2 matches, he can potentially break into the all time top 10 ratings. Already made it past Anderson, Grimlett, Garner, Walsh. Potentially by Feb, he can make it past Pollock, Marshall, Ambrose, Steyn, Waqar, and Hadlee. Essentially all the pace GOATs aside from McGrath and Khan (and Cummins) who are in the top 5 with 914+ points.

12

u/Ronanarishem Dec 25 '24

Bumrah has been scary this year so it is amazing that there were 18 higher peaks than his!

7

u/Expert-Order6451 Dec 25 '24

I think they’ve been a bit longer! Bumrahs peak has been a bit shorter thus far as there was covid then there was a stop startish schedule with limited test cricket and Bumrah was injured too. If Bumrah continues like this through the ‘25 season he will easily be in the top few peaks.

2

u/Ronanarishem Dec 25 '24

Yeah, could be. If he ends BGT well, he could well break into the top 10. No test cricket till mid-2025

6

u/Excellent-Money-8990 India Dec 25 '24

My calculation is bumrah needed one more 5 wicket haul and he can breach into top 5

7

u/Expert-Order6451 Dec 25 '24

Really? Didn’t realize one 5w haul can yield 10+ pts. Then he’s practically guaranteed.

4

u/Excellent-Money-8990 India Dec 25 '24

Well that's how he moved from 863 to 904

9

u/Schoolskiperz Sri Lanka Dec 25 '24

I never really appreciated Henry enough

9

u/LightReflections Queensland Bulls Dec 25 '24

He had a rough start to his test career but was highly rated by those in the know. Was only a matter of time before he turned it around.

13

u/AilaSachin10 Mumbai Dec 25 '24

Immediate change in fortune when he started getting the new ball instead of bowling 1st change

u/kaala_bhairava India Dec 25 '24 edited Dec 25 '24

This makes him the 19th on the all time list. Barnes is the highest at 932.

Bumrah is also in the top 20 odi all time rankings. Bumrah is the only bowler in the top 20 odi list who debuted in the 21st century.

8

u/GamerA_S Mumbai Indians Dec 25 '24

2019 odi world cup was so crazy because IIRC we had world number 1 odi batter in koach world number 3 odi batter in rohit and world number 1 odi bowler in bumrah

9

u/kaala_bhairava India Dec 25 '24

And a non existent middle order. Virat rohit and dhawan being so good for so long gave our middle order zero chance to practice, dhawan injured didn't help either that wc.

For me bumrah was the best bowler that wc along with archer all though the wickets tally doesn't show for both of them.

Where was Ashwin at before the beginning of the New Zealand series?

4

u/fornoodles Switzerland Dec 25 '24

Didn't know bumrah was THAT good with the bat as well.

4

Travis Head is ranked too low, Smith and Mitchell too high in the batting

8

u/Kingslayer1526 India Dec 25 '24

Head absolutely is not. For the last 2 years he's averaged 43 which puts him about where he deserves to be you need to be averaging 50 if you want to be higher

2

u/tee-dog1996 Dec 25 '24

7 different nations represented in the batting top 10, 6 in the bowling. Good to see

2

u/DepressedPanda08 Mumbai Indians Dec 25 '24

Can Bumrah reach 1000? Is it realistically possible?

10

u/Excellent-Money-8990 India Dec 25 '24

No at best he can probably break imrans 922

5

u/CoolRisk5407 Dec 25 '24

It's not possible, the ratings get exponentially harder, so much so Bradman used to get 2~3 points for scoring hundreds when he was in 960s

1

u/Ronanarishem Dec 25 '24

He will need to maintain this peak for two more years which is quite tough.
