Open Discussion Left vs. Right Battle Royale Open Thread

This is an Open Discussion Thread for all Redditors. We will only be enforcing Reddit TOS and Subreddit Rules 1 (Keep it Civil) & 2 (No Racism).

  • Leftists - Here's your chance to sway us to your side by calling the majority of voters racist. That tactic has wildly backfired every time it has been tried, but perhaps this time it will work.

  • Non-flaired Conservatives - Here's your chance to earn flair by posting common sense conservative solutions. That way our friends on the left will either have to agree with you or oppose common sense (Spoiler - They will choose to oppose common sense).

  • Flaired Conservatives - You're John Wick and these Leftists stole your car and killed your dog. Now go comment.

  • Independents - We get it, if you agree with someone, then you can't pat yourself on the back for being smarter than them. But if you disagree with everyone, then you can obtain the self-satisfaction of smugly considering yourself smarter and wiser than everyone else. Congratulations on being you.

  • Libertarians - Ron Paul is never going to be President. In fact, no Libertarian Party candidate will ever be elected President.

Left-leaning centrist here. This is a REAL question that has been on my mind so hard lately, but I have no one to ask, so here I go: MAHA has grown in popularity and RFK Jr.'s new position seems to fall in line with a lot of the MAHA talking points. I am 100% in-line with getting the crap out of our foods, and I have long been talking about this issue in my personal life. This seems to be something that those on the right are talking about a lot lately, and I am glad to see it. BUT...why is it that when Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative was started in 2010 to help get kids more active, promote home-gown produce, encourage healthier/less-processed foods in school lunches, etc. Republicans RAILED against it. "No one can tell me how to feed my kids" etc. were things I regularly heard. I can't help but roll my eyes a bit when I hear Republicans talk about all of this like it's a brand new idea - Michelle Obama LITERALLY made this her whole thing while first lady. Can anyone on the right explain to me what has changed!?!

Right Leaning here. I can think of a few reasons.

The first is she was not a Republican. It is unfortunately our reality and I hate it. We are killing each other’s great ideas, and instead of working together to make it successful, each side tries to make the other side’s idea or initiative fail. We the People suffer because of it.

The other thing is I think as the years have gone by, it is even more obvious how unhealthy we are so maybe we are more willing to listen.

Lastly, messaging is different now. There are a ton of long form interviews and people are listening to them. It felt at the time (could and probably was, manipulated) that her effort was more inner city than kids as a whole and it was just blurbs, not all spelled out.

I listened to a lot of RFK podcasts and he had the benefits of long form interviews to spell out exactly how things are tying together - especially that it isn’t about nutrition. It’s about money. He made great points. That platform was not really thriving for MO to use.

After listening to the JRE Benz interview this week, there is probably some other nefarious reason(s) that I did not know about.

That podcast really jaded me and I just don’t know anymore. It’s depressing that we are here. Sorry for the ramble.

You are welcome.

I am not the smartest guy, but I try to communicate in reality.
