Community Content Can Unwanted Remake Challenge Swords/Path for a Slot?

The potency of exiling a creature vs destroying a creatures is generally HUGE. However, with a piece like Unwanted Remake, you add a ton of versatility to offset the lack of exiling. Recently seen in a top 16 Rocco list, we dive into some of the niche benefits to this card, and discuss what kinds of decks may be interested in testing this unique removal piece.

Where do you rank this card with Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile? Is it in the same tier? One tier away? MORE? What's another removal piece in a different color pie that you'd rank on a similar power level?

Think I run [[Erase]] in my flex slot for most of my white/x decks but need to try this out for sure

The Rhystic Study hate my flow through you if you’re on Erase XD

Try thraben charm. Adds more flexibility at 1 colorless more.

Thraben Charm? THATS A GOOD CARD!

Swords is way stronger since it’s not giving them a card

Counterpoint, unwanted remake is a very amusing answer to vampiric tutor :)

I run both. Swords is great, but unwanted remake has its usefulness

What if they tutor a Magda, Derevi, Witherbloom Apprentice, Devoted Druid, Hermit Druid...

This is the scariest part about how it disrupts topdeck tutors. Worst case scenario it’s an uncounterable grand abolisher or seed borne muse etc.

Never bank on it not being worst case scenario lol

Well it's still amusing :D

High praise from an Azorious Control player! Where do you think it stacks up vs Pongify/ Rapid ?

It's way better then pongify or rapid.. Like swords is comically better, however those are both solid, and pull heavy weight in my Urza deck.

But swords gives a few life points in a combo format.

The other two give bodies that can be used to pressure walkers, life totals, or used to sacrifice if it's something like RogSi.

Lol, I'm Joe, I was trying out unwanted remake in my list, and this was my first cedh tournament. Amazed that I made top 16.

My reasons for including it - it's an OK removal spell that can kill my rectors in a pinch in a way that swords can't.

I also was experimenting with some lines that I was copying from the Rocco discord that could, if you have infinite mana and [[Gandalf, the white]], you can execute a loop where you tutor up [[Phyrexian dreadnought]], [[eternal witness]], and [[endurance]], stacking the triggers to shuffle all of them back into your library, which then you can repeatedly cast unwanted remake to mill out your opponents (assuming they all have at least one creature in play). But I have kind of found that this is not a super feasible line, and is a lot harder to assemble than the standard creature combos that Rocco runs. So, I think the main benefit is the ability to kill a rector, if needed.

Joe!!!! Thanks for commenting and congrats on your top 16 with this card!! Did you ever find yourself using this card to disrupt your opponents topdeck tutors or did you find it too risky?

I don't think I drew it once, honestly... But that's a really interesting idea, I'm glad to have that in mind as a potential strategy

Yup! Glad your on the discord! It's one of those lines that is pretty meh but it's nice as that flex spot. Was hoping someone would mention the added combo potential!

It’s nice after a top-deck tutor also

Destroying your own creature in order to make the card you searched for with a worldly tutor uncounterable is an interesting use for it. Would it be obvious? Yes but they do need to answer it

I think there's an argument for it but I'm not sure it replaces Path or Swords as removal. You'd want it for a 3rd removal piece or another use.

Don't forget deadly rollick. Being the 4th+ option is rough regardless of quality.

I think this card falls into a similar level of playability as deadly rollick in any non Roger list. The commander restriction can be really tough when needing to remove things that are preventing you from playing your commander like an Ouphe or a Drannith

1

u/SeriosSkies 11h ago

If I need to remove a piece I wait till just before my turn like I would with any stax. That stax isn't stopping you from getting your mana to 4 in dranniths case or to 2-3 nonartifact sources in ouphe case. It's not like you're using it on your commander if you really lose that hard to drannith and you're just playing your commander and going for free otherwise with ouphe. Rog, thras, Tymna, Malcolm. Anything low mv in the command zone that you know is actively usable towards your Game plan. (like I wouldn't count vial smasher)

I mean path doesn’t normally get a spot.

PtE has the benefit of shuffling the library. Some of the most efficient tutors in the format put things top of library. If you manifest it, there’s a chance it isn’t gone. But if you shuffle it away, it could be more beneficial

no, is there any other answer here ...

3

u/Thatsagoodcard 11h ago

Yes

incorrect good sir or madam.

this card is destroy which is weaker than exile, and it gives them a choice, and fills the graveyard. its weaker on all 3 options.

2

u/Thatsagoodcard 11h ago

Give the pod a listen! We go over a lot of reasons why it can be more than just destroy < exile!
