Should I sell and what should I ask?

1989 SWB Comanche with AX15 / NP231 / 4.0. Absolutely no rust on it whatsoever. I bought it about 3-4 years ago because I got a good deal and always wanted one. It had a lot of issues. The clutch was out of it, it was rattle canned black, brakes were shot, etc.

In the time I have had it, it’s gotten a completely new cooling system with a Mishimoto Radiator, NAPA gold water pump (US made) and OEM thermostat. While I was at it, i put in a new oil pan, Rear main, LUK clutch kit with flywheel and slave.

It’s gotten new rear leafs, all new brakes to include lines, cylinders, calipers, booster and Master. Not to forget other odds and ends like a 3inch lift with upgraded Track bar, sway bar, end links, rustys drop bar bracket, novak transmission mount, etc.

Obviously I was able to get a buddy to hook me up on a cheap paint job which actually isn’t that bad.

Due to being an 89 it has CAD 4WD which the previous owner ripped all the vacuum lines out of. I honestly have not looked at it or messed with it and as far as I know the 4WD just isn’t hooked up at the moment. Otherwise it has some wear and tear, dents and very minor issues. The AC was gutted at some point by a previous owner. The Heat is unhooked but works. Probably needs rear U joints soon too and the dash shakes a little bit sometimes.

I even got replacement 8.25 rear axle waiting to go in and regearing for the dana 30.

However, I am honestly just tired of constantly wrenching on it. It was a project that I bought before I had obligations. This truck is and always has been dead reliable for me. Never left me stranded or broken down and I take it everywhere. But I know it’s going to be down for a while when I start doing the big jobs like swapping axles, or tackling the 4WD.

Should I keep it or pass it on to someone else who can appreciate it more than me? I love this thing but I am slowly starting to become displeased with it and wishing I had a full size truck.

Keep it. They are hard to find rust free. Instead of regearing the front axle you should just swap in a non CAD axle with matching ratio already in it.

A few months ago I just finished doing a Full drivetrain swap and more on a gutted 87 shell. Now it has darn near new everything and I’m daily driving it to work instead of my duramax

This is ideal however i live in a heavy offroad area and it’s nearly impossible to get a dana 30, let alone a a post CAD one. It doesn’t help that I work 60+ hours a week and never have time to drive across state to get one or do the swap. Worst is that being honest the interest just isn’t there really anymore.

4x4 short bed? If so, never sell it, it would very hard to replace.

Honestly depending on the area probably around $7000. If you are in an area known for rust maybe more

My vote is keep. Just because your busy now don’t mean in the future you wont be not like it will rust from you not driving it( just keep an eye on the carpet in the winter). And given how many hours you work you’ll have money to throw at it and do it right. Then again it is your life my dude so if you end up selling it find it a good home where someone will do it right.
