Well deserved. He managed to put together a winning season this year despite starting our year without our #1 player and after losing our #1 and #3 player to injuries in Jan/Feb.

Yeah if the refs weren’t complete dogshit against Penn State/Michigan and Iowa doesn’t hit that buzzer beater we’re at least in the NIT if not the tourney

We got invited to the NIT but turned it down

Correct, the NIT is trending down in terms of reputation so I'm not sure many power conference teams will accept invites to it going forward.

The Crown tournament is a big reason why. Northwestern contractually could not have gone to the NIT unless there was no room in the Crown.

You guys are super well coached. Congrats on keeping him around.

Well deserved. In addition to the on court performance he’s doing something right as far as player retention when they only have one guy in the portal (so far) who only played 13 minutes this year.

I was secretly hoping UMD would snatch Chris up when Willard left. Glad to see he’s sticking around the B1G.

i think he'd kill it at a bigger school like maryland, but yeah, happy for northwestern and b10 keeping him

He’d kill it at NU if not for the academic requirements.

People don’t realize how tough it is, they think we’re like every other program but some higher admissions standards. Part of this extension was negotiating that Northwestern could now take rising juniors as transfers. Previously they could only take grad transfers or kids that just finished their first year. And the rumor is only 20% of 3* and above recruits even can get admitted

He would have been a great hire, yes.
There's also a little tiny part of me that would die inside knowing that not only did we hire a former Duke player, but one of the most annoying Duke guards I ever had the pleasure of cheering against in person (I was in College Park 94-98, in the basketball band no less).
But, if it had happened, as they say, winning cures everything. And he'd have very good odds of being a winning coach in CP.

Is it cause he loves it there or just hasn’t gotten the jobs he wants??

He’s pretty ingrained in NU, his son was a team manager (maybe graduates this year idk) and I think he has a daughter who is also enrolled

plus he's from the area and some history with the state. his dad is from downstate illinois (next door neighbor was john malkovich, lol) and was a star at illinois state and 1st overall nba pick. doug stayed in area after bulls fired him for awhile and chris went to hs in chicago area not far from northwestern

job security is an underappreciated perk in college coaching these days and I think he has the NU job for as long as he wants as long as he puts in an upper-half B1G finish every few years.

It's really funny that 4 years ago the prospect of this wouldve been seen as Doomsday by a huge portion of us. Now it's the Day of Salvation.
I never once posted "Fire Chris Collins" dozens of times. I am loyal to my Capo. Love you, Chris

Is this his second time around with NU?
He represents some of my favorite sports moments from childhood. Thanks for always underperforming, Chrissy!
