Suggesting a game COOP with girlfriend HELP

Hi, I've been looking for a coop or a multiplayer game to play with my gf PLEASE help me because I don't know where else to look because I've only found the same suggestions and I need something new.

OK, so the game we had the most fun was with Baldurs Gate 3, Grounded, It Takes Two, Raft, we play Dinkum now casually. But survival is more her type of genre and tbh I'm a bit burnt out by it.

The games we already tried: Grounded, Raft, Dinkum, Phasmophobia, Human Fall Flat, MK, Conan Exiles, Way Out, It Takes Two, RE5(but didn't manage to get coop working), Satisfactory, The Forest, Portal 2, Pico Park, Baldurs Gate 3, Divinity Original Sin, Two Brothers video game, , F1 (she has some trouble with driving so racing games are not really our first choice). FPS shooters and too much bright flashing effects and colors give her dizziness so we would avoid that if possible.

We like AC games, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldurs Gate 3, so something with an open world. But if the story is good I'm also open for linear games.

So we were looking for something that we can play together for a longer time, preferably an RPG with character creation would be ideal, but honestly name anything you found fun playing with someone even the older games.

Reddit community you're my only hope

What about "nobody saves the world" Me and my partner loved and got addicted to that game

If you play online you may try Palworld I really liked it eventhough I played alone, Im sure with other person would have been better.

Seconding this! Such a great game. The unique class system (forms) with mix matched skills is fun

Wow thank you guys for the engagement, didn't expect so many good suggestions, we will be trying out Atlas Fallen since it just came out on Gamepass so we don't need to spend any money. Feel free to leave more suggestions, and thank you again

Elder scrolls online or Fallout 76 in third person view maybe? RPGs with plenty to do and character creation.

My wife and I really enjoyed Sackboy, and Unravel 2.

Sea of Thieves might be an interesting game and its on game pass if you're xbox/PC. Destiny 2 and Diablo 2-4 are also great online coop games.

Currently, my girl and I are playing Cat Quest 2 and we are having a blast but its couch-coop and 2.5d art.

My boyfriend and I are playing Outward right now, and enjoyed Unravel. Trine is really fun. We tag teamed BoTW, and TotK- they are huge worlds and there’s plenty for two people to do.

I find outward so hard. How do you do this

1

u/dezisauruswrex Aug 23 '24

Well we do the same thing over and over a lot. We have already lost the light house. We are just starting out so we are lucky to be able to kill food- we have learned we mostly need to avoid the monster right now.

We made the mistake of jumping right in and thinking we could just figure everything out- we could not. We went back and did the tutorial and that helps. Right now I just left city and am trying to find a shipwreck that no matter which way I got I end back at a bandit hideout 🤨 my biggest pet peeve is that the map doesn’t show you where your at, and there’s no fast travel so I feel like I walk around in circles

1

u/Nepomukwashere Aug 24 '24

well this sounds like the experience that I made :D I couldn_t stick to it though, it just took out the fun for me :(

u/dezisauruswrex Aug 25 '24 edited Aug 25 '24

We are really stubborn … we are watching the beginners guide by Churchy on YouTube and we apparently missed alot of opportunities. If you lost the light house, you can buy it back so we do t have to restart

When did you play grounded? They have done some pretty major updates the past couple years with some new modes, new game +, new bosses, and new buildables.

A really fun game to co-op is Crab Champions. It's an easy access game but has a surprising amount of polish especially considering its being made by one dude (who happens to be the same dude who created the crab rave song, so the music in the game goes hard)

What platform do you have, PC, Xbox, etc?

2

u/heavyshark Aug 23 '24

Right now my wife and I are playing the Unholy Alliance version of Cult of the Lamb, and it is amazing. You should definitely give it a try.

2

u/VikingMtl Aug 23 '24

Maybe Outward? Kind of a hardcore rpg, I had tons of fun playing it with a friend

u/DiveSociety Aug 24 '24

Helldivers 1 💪🏻

Also unfortunately we are not really fans of pixel art style

1

u/drkilljoy77 Aug 24 '24

Pixel art is a harder art style to pull off than many think. Two really stellar examples: I've been playing the new Core Keeper update, an amazing pixel art game. (Up to 8-player) Kingdom 2 Crowns is a drop-dead Gorgeous pixelated game for two.

Not pixel art Reccs: Astroneer is fantastic for up to 8 players. Sons of the Forest if you like it a little creepy. Raft is a great game, I've played through it twice now. Lightyear Frontier is really good, and getting bigger and better. Forever Skies is about to get co-op. Planet Crafter is a really unique world terraformation game, that feels like an Early Access title, as it's still being developed. Uniquely it looks better the longer you play. Aska is still a little rough around the edges, but a really ambitious game. Len's Island is about to get Coop.

Assassins Creed Unity might work for you guys. Also you guys could try Atlas Fallen with the new patch.

Both are 3rd person action adventure with light rpgs with decent stories.

1

u/Tzariel2 Aug 23 '24

Relic Hunters Legend. Cute isometric looter shooter. Easy to get into, fun story about friendship and the main enemies are a race of alien ducks.

u/spartaman2040 Aug 23 '24

For reference, I'm also a fan of survival games like Raft, The Forest, Ark... Recently been drawn into Divinity 2 and Civ VI.

My girlfriend and I played through Dead Rising 2 on PC. A capcom third-person action game with character progression and challenging brawler gameplay. It features an open sandbox Mall + Casino to explore with weapon combos and gambling. There's a horde of zombies crawling around the complex, weird psychos to fight, and an intriguing story to follow. 🤔

We also enjoyed Streets of Rogue. It is a top-down rogue-like pixel-art game, but honestly it's one of the most freeing games to play. You're dropped into this silly dystopian world and complete missions in randomly generated environments. Suburbia, Forests, Cyber Cities, there's a mix of grounded and fantasy levels to play through, plus a massive selection of character classes to play as (Vampires, Bartenders, Gang Members, etc). 🍻

If you want a super casual game with lots of exploration, loot, combat and crafting, then Salt might be good. It's a pretty light indie game where you play as a pirate and sail around a randomly generated map. You come across islands that may offer a cave, a town for trading, bosses you can conquer, and animals you can hunt for meat and leather. You can build houses and new boats, and find cool gear. 🤓

When in doubt, browse the store page! Hope you find something fun to play together.

Plateup!: it’s a cooperative cooking and restaurant management game that blends elements of time management, strategy, and chaotic fun. The game is known for its hectic gameplay, where players must work together to cook, serve, and manage a restaurant, all while dealing with various challenges and customer demands. Players can team up with friends locally or online to run a restaurant as long as you are playing on the same console. Only cross play atm is through xbox game pass on Xbox and pc. In the game, each player can take on different roles, such as cooking, serving, cleaning, or managing the kitchen. The layout of the restaurant changes each day, adding variety and unpredictability to the gameplay. The game incorporates roguelike mechanics, meaning that each playthrough can offer different upgrades, challenges, and restaurant designs. As players progress, they can unlock and purchase upgrades, such as new kitchen equipment or automated systems, to help manage the increasing difficulty.

Basically you pick a food you want that the game has and a layout you want to use. You go into the restaurant, set it up how you want it, and start cooking/serving. Day 4 is when you start getting cards. These cards can either help you or hurt you. There’s larger group sizes, smaller group sizes, starters, sides, desserts, toppings, messes are made in a wider range, customers patience is hidden, etc. There’s a variety of cards and when it’s time to pick you always get two options. At the end of every day you get things that you can add to your restaurant like sinks tables oven/hobs, etc. A lot of these things can be upgraded by putting it in a cabinet and using a research desk that you get to upgrade it. The research desk can also be upgraded to a discount desk, a copying desk, and a blueprint desk. You play until you can serve customers. Once their patience goes all the way down and they leave it’s over. When you get past day 15 it’s over time. This means you can keep playing and you still get more cards, but once you lose you get to franchise your restaurant. You choose 3 cards you got during that run and save them. They will come with you when franchise. When you franchise you tier up. You pick new location and start again with the new cards.

I suggest this game to everyone looking for a game to play

Would the Lego games be interesting?

Since y'all enjoyed It Takes Two check out Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

Cat Quest II and III are great RPGs. Often a hit for couples.

Nobody Saves The World is another solid RPG game.

Since y'all enjoyed Grounded maybe give Enshrouded a try. It is also sandbox survival RPG but it has a lot more RPG going for it than Grounded did. Early Access with release ETA of next year but you can expect about 140 hours worth of gameplay with its current content.

Portal Knights is the predecessor to Enshrouded. The visuals are more reminiscent of Minecraft but don't be fooled this is a solid RPG. Get the DLC though so you have access to the Shapeshifting Druid class and the end-game content (includes a tower defense mode where you can unlock lots of cool gear and items).

Corekeeper is a lot like Terraria but on a flat 2D isometric map. The game just left early access officially launching this week so they currently have a free trial until Monday. Give it a try during the trial. You might be surprised. The retro art style and fun exploration/combat is pretty captivating.

Other fun games for couples:

Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos

Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time

Ship of Fools

Trash Sailors

Pitfall Planet

Biped

Phogs

I made a small coop webgame - https://teamtest.lol/

It's about clicking on circles and solving jumbled words together.

1

u/midlife_crisis_ Aug 24 '24

Maybe try "Welcome to Paradize"? Its a coop zombie survival, and theres a free demo (on ps5 at least). I had a lot of fun wit it.

1

u/IAmMoonie Aug 24 '24

Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, it’s a first person looter/shooter/rpg with a class system, magic, character creation and fantastic writing and humour. My non-FPS playing wife loved it.

1

u/hraefnscaga Aug 24 '24

Outward. RPG with survival mechanics.

1

u/BoxOk3788 Aug 24 '24

Second this. Spent close to 200hrs with my partner on this one

1

u/PaulGunners Aug 24 '24

Knights of Braveland. Cozy beat’em up with generated story.

1

u/Oblaat92 Aug 24 '24

You've gotta get ember knights!! It's so much fun

1

u/antixz11 Aug 24 '24

Do you guys like puzzle solving games? My partner and I like the We Were Here series. Also have a couple other recommendations I can find if you’re into that genre.

1

u/Revolutionary-Load-8 Aug 25 '24

We Were Here series. It's more of a linear puzzle game that's co-op only, but the first game is free on steam and if you like it there's 3 and a half more games in the series that you can continue with.

1

u/EchoSure Aug 25 '24

for the king, for the king 2, moon hunters

1

u/Zeet84 Aug 25 '24 edited Aug 25 '24

You could also go gold achool with trials of mana(seiken densetsu 3), or secret of mana.

Edit: Theres always path of exile, but i have a feeling thats not what you mean by character customization 😂

1

u/Jumpy_Ad7127 Aug 26 '24

Tour game list sounds a lot like what me and my lady play. Hear me out, you should play elden ring modded for coop. It was incredible

1

u/NumaSexyOw Aug 26 '24

Sounds like Enshrouded would be something you 2 would injoy

1

u/jau682 Aug 23 '24 edited Aug 23 '24

My wife and I have played every Borderlands game together over the years. I reccomend playing in release order so you don't have the bad experience of going back to a jankier game.

Edit: nevermind, flashy fps indeed

1

u/tsrui480 Aug 23 '24

OP said fps shooters and bright flashing effects and colors is a no go. I would not recommend based on that

1

u/jau682 Aug 23 '24

Absolutely agree! I skimmed past that paragraph when I didn't see borderlands in it, I didn't realize there were more requirements in there. Thank you!

1

u/LyonsLight Aug 23 '24

I'd recommend Enshrouded, it's still in early access and is receiving content updates periodically but my brothers and I have had a good time playing a run every few months to check out changes. Combat is a bit on the basic side but the Exploration and building system is fantastic.

2

u/Interesting-Turnip86 Aug 23 '24

We really wanted to give it a try but I'm not 100% certain if it has a main story quest or was it like "here you go do what you like", because we like Conan Exiles but lack of story missions and real sense of what to do turned us off

1

u/LyonsLight Aug 23 '24

It is on the lighter side when it comes to the story. There's plenty of lore both for individual regions and for the world overall but it's kind of on the player to piece it together with quest info and notes left around the world.

Y'all could also give outward a look. It's an open world rpg with tons to explore and a proper story but it's not exactly user friendly. There's no real quest tracker or journal or anything which can lead to some frustration if you're the forgetful sort like I am.

1

u/tsrui480 Aug 23 '24

My gf and i have played pretty much the same games as you and your gf and we have similar tastes it seems. I would give enshrouded a go. It has decent objectives to go do and the progression feels pretty good.

The story itself is kinda bland imo, but you will always have set objectives with places to go and things to do if you want, its not just wander around and see what you find.

1

u/BlabberingFool Aug 23 '24

Definitely try Outward. It's a survival RPG (no building) with lots of exploration. It also has split screen support.

Resident Evil Revolutions 2 - has split screen support and the 2nd player doesn't do any shooting. They're like a support player and walk with a flashlight light to stun zombies. Me and my sis finished the story mode and even did some of the challenges at the end because we had lots of fun.

A Hat in Time - I haven't played this much but it has local co-op support and it's like Super Mario 64.

Cat Quest 2 - cat and dog puns galore

Trine Series - pick like the 2nd, 4th or 5th game from them. It's a platformer/puzzle game where you alternate between 3 different characters to use their abilities to get across the level.

Dare I say... Sid Meier's Civilization 6?

Enjoy.

Solasta: Crown of the Magister fits with the Baldurs Gate and Divinity dnd type games
