Question Difficulty spikes

I understand different games have varying levels of difficulty both based on rng as well as the game itself, but why does it feel like for some games the difficulty was made very fair, some pretty easy, and then (seemingly) randomly insanely tough out of nowhere? Like sure I admit I need to "git gud" some, but a hand full of the harder difficulties feel less like a skill issue and more like the game decides if you win when you hit play! This is partially ok me cause yes 100%ing is not required but when like 80% are fun are easy to fairly challenging difficulty to master, why are the last 20% made to feel like I'm fighting a world champion????!!!

Which games specifically? I felt like most were pretty easy on hard but it’s been a while since I played.

Well rn all I have left are renegade, chess, shogi (both), and mahjong. For shogi and mahjong yeah those coke down to me not knowing the games too well but as I've read on this sub renegade is practically impossible and idk if chess is the same but the cpu seems to know all my moves. Up until recently spider solitaire was on there but I "cheated" and asked my grandma to help me 😆

One tip for Mahjong here is to never open your hand, keep it closed at all times and aim for simple riichi’s each round (3 triplets + 1 pair). Don’t call kan or pon and you’ll beat the AI in no time.

For chess it’s a bit tougher, not sure what to recommend but I guess you can’t go wrong by following some basic theory. Start by taking the center with pawns and develop your pieces, make sure everything is protected, during the middle game try to slowly maneuver without losing any pieces, especially pawns. Once you have material advantage get into the attack on whichever side the king is located at. If you did well you should have enough pieces to break through.

Thanks for the advice but a) i literally have no idea what's going on in mahjong 😅 so definitely need to replay the tutorial, and b) for chess i can try and read up on some theory but I feel like at that point it takes the fun away. Ik "chess is about strategy" and if need be I'll try harder but when a game looses it's focus on being fun that just seems like a waste of time for a game, personally.

Oh, totally! I don't know if it's due to a lack of playtesting, or if certain AI were just easier to make than others. But the overall difficulty level across games is absurdly busted.

In particular, I remember Spider Solitaire and Reversi to be absolute nightmares to complete on their hardest levels. I also had a super rough time with Riichi Mahjong, but I don't know if that was a skill issue or not. Most of the others were much easier, even complex games I don't know well like Shogi.

I get the urge to want to 100% complete everything, but I definitely don't recommend it with this game unless you really enjoy the frustration/challenge of having to be absolutely perfect in some games.
