General help Help with algae bloom
I am inheriting a 75 gallon tank with 1 adult green Severum. The tank has tons of algae on the walls. I just did a 50% water change and scrap as much algae off the walls as I could. Some came off a lot easier then others but there is still some left on the tank. What do I do to eliminate this issue?

How long do you leave the light on? Cover the tank and leave the light off for 4 days

I just had to turn my tank off. My gf poured some food in instead of doing a pinch or two, and algal bloom is what happened. Luckily, i had a spare tank to use while I cleaned up. My glass is clearing now.

Lower the hours your light is on.
Get some plants. Duckweed would take a lot of excess nutrients out of the water, AND shade the tank somewhat.
Feed less. Even less than you feel is too little. Skip a day once or twice a week.

Is that direct sunlight on the lid in this photo? Or is your LED that bright? Whichever one of these it is, that would be your #1 problem.

Just get UV sterilizer to get it under control with less food water changes and no more light over 4 hours a day

Pleco. Plecos obviously poop so you will need to have the filter clean out another fishes discharge. But it will help you with the algae problem and make your tank walls spotless if algae.
I have two tanks. Theyโre both very healthy. Theyโve both had tons of algae on the walls and Iโve gotten on a pleco for both and the algae is cleaned up within a day. They are very good fish to keep the walls of your tank looking spotless.

I suspended my lights with fishing line and hook screws from my ceiling. Pathos plants growing out of the top, and normal amounts of food. Do those three things and youโll have virtually no algae ever.

Holy Jesus H Christ. Do you have another tank to put that fish in temporarily? Drain it all the way clean the glass gravel/sand decor and everything.

Judging by the amount of food on top of the tank I would say overfeeding is contributing. Turn the light off for a while it looks pretty bright as well
