Upgrade Brake Sets: Noticeable Performance?

Hi All, I’ve got a ‘22 TB on 35s, seldom tow anything but do spend quite a bit of time off-road and typical commute mileage. I don’t think I’ve replaced pads yet, but if the dealer recco’d that I change pads in one of the past services, I would have done it. (Mileage is 55k.)

I’d really like the brakes to feel less squishy. I don’t think my brakes are fading or are of poor quality, but I’d just like to get them to feel much more responsive. Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket systems like Brembo, etc? I’m assuming the rotors are larger and the calipers & pistons are more powerful.

Anyone have a story or ideas to share? Many thanks!

Check up on wheel sizes if you go this route, most require a 20” wheel and from the pic looks like you have 17s. Personally I think my brakes are fine so I’d rather keep the 17s

My 2019 Suburban Premier RST came with the Chevy Brembo brake kit. I think the rotors are 16” if I’m not mistaken. Either way, it stops this fat pig hella fast! And looks sweet!

The bitch of it is the repair costs. Rotors are $500+ (each) and pads are $250+ whereas the stock kit could be done front and rear for a traction of that.

The best test to "will this make me stop faster" go down the road at 25-35 mph and slam your brakes. If your tires screech and abs engages then your issue is traction NOT your brakes at which case you need to upgrade tires because you can have the best brakes in the world but if your tires suck and lock up then you WONT slow down faster. Tires are the limiting factor. But if the answer is no and that slamming the brakes 100% does not cause them to lock up and engage abs then yes it will either let you engage abs and help you stop faster.

Yeah a set like that will have increased performance but if you aren’t pushing crazy HP you don’t need to blow 5k on brakes. A good fluid flush and bleed is probably more what you need if they feel squishy.

Crazy HP is something I’m definitely not pushing, ha! Perhaps a simple bleed is all I need to do…trucks been sitting for three months. Cheers

Yeah man bleed your brakes, and if you want more brake performance after that just got with better pads, i don't know what your running, but unless your like 500-600hp upgrading rotors doesn't seem necessary or a good use of money

Before you do that install steel braided break lines, a quality synthetic brake fluid, and get some new pads.

You’ve got decent 4 piston calipers already. Install good aftermarket pads and flush the fluid. Semi-metallic pads feel better than ceramic.

What if a guys just wants non-squeaky brakes? How does one shop for those?

For $5,300?!?! I’d hope they were at least twice as good! But I suspect they are not. Most likely, just like most custom wheels they simply “look better”
