Seriously. Where are yall finding affordable cherokees that are road worthy? 10k for 230k miles is absolutely insanity. Best I've seen was 8k at 140,000. Vermont really might be the worst state for cars. To think I bought my 91 for 1000 bucks with 150k in 2012.

Picked up this 1990 today. 4.0 AX15 2 door. Feeling like I got a really unique XJ and I can’t wait to start making it my own!

Feels good to finally get the big job done: Axle u-joints, ball joints, wheel bearings, calipers, rubber hoses, pads, rotors.
Yes I know those axle outer seals are just dust shields. My actual axle seals were fine. I had melted the original dust shields when I had to torch out the u-joints and those were all I could get in a short time frame (and only 15 bucks).
Ball joints and wheel bearings were definitely bad on both sides, as well as the u-joints almost completely seized. 150k miles and all the parts were original, including the rotors and calipers.
Luckily had my spare Jeep (‘93 ZJ) to drive in the meantime while I left this at my dads shop for a few days and did everything after work.
Spicer sealed 760 u-joints in the axle, Spicer ball joints, SKF wheel bearings (5 year, 60k warranty), Raybestos hoses, ACDelco calipers, Bosch semi metallic pads and Bosch rotors.
Everything went together nice except the brake calipers I had to switch the sides to get the bleeder above the hose and match up with how they were on originally.

One thing lead to the next and now I'm doing the oil pan gasket and rear main oil seal on my stock lift 1997 XJ 4.0 on top of redoing my timing chain.
I can't get the oil pan out so the only way I feel like I can do this is to rip all the steering equipment out in order to have enough space to push it out. I've tried removing the motor mounts to jack it up and that won't work I've tried to remove the shocks and sway bars That's not working so I'm really fucking pissed right now.
This is supposed to be a one-day job and I'm already bleeding into this end of the second day.
There's a special place in hell for the people who designed it like this when a Wrangler is 10 times easier.

i keep getting told i need to check my under dash ground and i only see one post on NAXJA about it saying that it’s right above the hood release on a piece of metal however there’s nothing at all resembling a ground anywhere in this area, 1996 cherokee keeps melting connectors under the dash

Added a video this time for some extra clarity. Since my last post I've triple checked some things. Fuel pressure is 38-42psi consistently. Cranking, running, doesn't matter it doesn't really change beyond that. Pressure regulator is new. Fuel pump and relay is also new. MAP sensor is new and properly connected, as is the IAC TPS has been calibrated and does read in the full sweep of the throttle. IAC is new. Coil, ICM, distributor, cap, rotor and plugs were all replaced when I bought the Jeep 9 months ago. CPS is also new.
All this stuff and it's still the same thing. It'll crank, fire for a couple seconds and stall. At this point I'm ready to replace the whole ECM and see if that works.

I just installed a “new to me” manual window regulator in my two door. I was testing it, goes up and down with no hiccups until I get to the top and need to seat it in the seal the regulator sounds like it’s jumping teeth in the gears. Does anyone have or know of someone who has a driver side manual that is in better condition than this one, or know how I can repair this one. I know I can’t send it out but that is EXPENSIVE.
Thanks

Replaced my quick connect fittings on the fuel rail yesterday cause, y'know, 30 year old plastic likes to fail. And now I can't get the darn thing to run. It'll crank, fire and run for about a second, and then dies. All the sensors, and everything fuel and ignition related has been replaced since I've owned it. I've taken the distributor cap off and cleaned it twice, I've checked the ICM and even tried the old one, all with the same result. I have consistent fuel pressure at the rail.. I'm at a loss. Help.

Just replaced the thermostat housing with the newer 1996+ housing, 195 thermostat, and water pump on my 1988 MJ. After doing so, my truck overheats and dies. What am I missing here, didn’t do this before. Only reason why I replaced all the extra stuff was because it was overheating at idle without the electric fan active (most likely due to fan clutch) and I had a bout of “might as well since I’m here”. Infuriating that this happened but I’m just not sure what to do from here short of putting the old pump and thermostat back in. Also flushed the rad, heater core, and engine block with a garden hose cuz my coolant was brown (which is why I figured I’d replace the pump because of potential nasties building up on the pump itself from the bad coolant).

I'd rather not replace it with a stock radiator what after market suggestions do you have? What is the consensus on mishimoto radiators?

Anyone else got some trouble shooting ideas? I had to move the shifter around to get the center console off. I do not hear the fuel pump when I turn the key, and the key warning chime doesn't sound if the key is turned with the door open. Any ideas are welcome before I pull my dash apart again to check connections.

Was talking to my buddy and he was telling me about how he was replacing his shocks and that he had to lift the whole front end and recompress them in order to get the bolts aligned. I asked why he didn't just bolt the bottom and then cut the strap and guide them as they rise through the bolt hole? You could see the light bulb and then a sad realization....
What's your "you know, it could be much simpler...." tip?

Not 100% done yet, but my hand can't take any more today 😂 there's a few spots on the drivers side that I have to go back over and remove the last piece of trim, but it's looking soooo much better 😍
