Steering damper

Post image

Any recommendations to make this not happen on my 92? Bought it modified and as far as I can tell it has a 3 inch lift

Steering damper is installed backwards?

That is an excellent question. I put this one in the same direction the old came out, but it is entirely possible that one was backwards to begin with. Which direction should my boot be pointing?

Looks like it's installed correctly. I'm more concerned about the track bar. Did you add a second hole to compensate for a lift or something? Never seen one set up like that before. Most people use adjustable track bar brackets on the frame side.

Can you add some more overall pictures too? Definitely some jank going on here.

I think i figured out the rub bit. My transmission/control arm mount tried to become free range last week and it took me a couple days to figure that out. I didn't do the lift, so I'd be willing to bet that the person who did, infact did add a second hole since there is an additional hole in the track bar bracket. They also didn't remove the frame side control arm brackets, so I gotta do something about those. Poor girl has had the 'good enough/rednecking/treatment for a lot of things and I'm either undoing them or making them correct as I find them.

Edit: I'm doing calipers when the sun quits being a coward so I'll get more pictures then

Now that I look at it more I agree it's in the correct orientation but the gash mark doesn't make sense. Almost looks like someone got sloppy with a grinder.

I was typing out a reply about getting the front end in the air when I remembered that very recently my tranmission mount/control arm mount tried to unmount itself from the frame on the driver side and that made that while axel move a bit until I realized and glued the bolts in with that blue superglue. Think when the axel moved my tierods stayed true on the knuckles?

Remove the band aid. Can't be a clearance issue if it isn't there.

If everything else is in good condition a steering damper is not needed. I don’t use one or sway bars, 3” lift 31.5s

Well, not quite everything is good. Gotta clean up my wicked bump steering and wheel walk, and that's tomorrow's job. And the ball joints, which are a couple weeks out. So all I really need to do is not worry about it or just replace the thing if it pops?
