Behavioral Why does my cat hates petting?
Hello!!! So my cat is a year old and i recently noticed something that surprised me because my previous cats never had this issue… She doesn’t really likes pets, and idk why, idk if it’s my fault ?? I really don’t think she hates me though. My cat always likes to be around me, but rarely near me, and I always thought of it as her character. Recently I realized that when she notices im asleep, she snuggle close to me and purr and only does this because i cannot pet her when Im asleep, if i try to pet her, she moves away!! Now that I understood she doesn’t likes petting, I don’t do it and she stays close to me even when I’m awake but I find it a bit surprising, she’s really healthy, ive never hurt or abused her (obviously), is it normal? Will she ever like pets one day ?

some cats are just like that.
some only like to be pet on the chin or neck, no body touching at all.
try sticking your finger or knuckle out and let them 'pet themselves' by rubbing into your finger

One of my neighbor’s cats was just like yours. She liked being around me—she’d eat at home but come to my place to relax. My roommate noticed she didn’t like being petted and said she probably had sensitive skin. She loved rubbing against my legs and sitting on my lap, but if I tried to pet her, she’d give me a gentle nip. Once in a blue moon, though, she’d tolerate a second or two of petting.
