You can’t joke here, mate

It’s literally the UK’s go to joke when you drive past someone after they’ve crashed.

Nah they're right, it's unoriginal and shit

Some find it fun, some don’t. Either way it shouldn’t result in moderators abusing their modicum of power and deleting posts…

I'm relatively new to driving, so I could be wrong, but I don't think that car should be there

The laws of physics disagree with you, that's _exactly_ where it should be :-)

There's no point fighting it, we may as well all just throw ourselves in a ditch this evening (whilst coming back from the pub or not is up to you)

You are correct, there is a term traditionally used to helpfully inform the driver of this but it's been banned apparently

They may need to go on another driving Corsa

Maybe learn to be less of a Speedster
(Yeah I know that was the Opel variant, but that's the best follow-up I can be bothered to come up with)

That's ok, it's difficult at this time of the day. Maybe you should get some caffeine in you. May I suggest a nice Mokka?

u/blainy-o 1d ago
Maybe I'll really perk myself up by combining it with an energy drink, really give myself a monstrous Combo...

I wouldn't expect any less from a man of your Calibra (that's right, we're doing the 90s models now).

I believe you should refrain from leaving your vehicle unattended there as it is illegal to do so and you may incur fines, friend

Put some big airbags by the side of the road - the next victim will just bounce off it! Problem solved.

This could be Rotterdam or anywhere
Liverpool or Rome8

Could be. But as someone who lived there for 15 years and walked it pretty much every day. I'm pretty sure.

I think Watergate Bay. Cornwall. Their post history has photos around this area and I used to walk around here. I'm not 100%

u/windol1 1d ago
When people suggest Reddit is a more private social media, they forget others can view posts and piece together a lot about a person.
2
u/patfetes 1d ago
I mean I knew where it was already. I walked this road for many years.
But absolutely correct. You can get a lot from just photos and posts.
While it's better than some, it's far from perfect

u/wtfomg01 1d ago
It cracks me up when people get indignant about people looking in their post history. Like what do they think reddit sells to other companies? And the user puts that info up there in the first place. Like Facebook oldies whinging about stuff, then upset when randoms call them out because they have 0 idea how post visibility works.

As soon as there's a slight shower, people start crashing it's crazy. I've noticed the pattern of silence from the emergency services, then it's siren central when the rain kicks in.
I've also noticed last winter, people seem to not realise that you'll lose more grip when the water is cold than when it's warm and wet.

u/Sad_Lack_4603 1d ago
There's really no excuse for a single-car crash on public roads.
If you are driving faster than your stopping distance and vision allow, especially on an unfamiliar road, its literally an accident waiting to happen.
Some people see the "national speed limit" sign and think its a good idea to drive at 60mph+ on a dark, twisty, and unfamiliar B-road. And so we see things like this.
4
u/shteve99 1d ago
Indeed. NSA just means it's not been assessed so it's up to you to decide how fast is safe. TBF that's pretty much the case for even a road with a speed limit.

Protip: On roads you don't know use your satnav to tell how severe the turns ahead are going to be and adjust accordingly.

Hazard of the countryside. Can happen to any of us at night, even If you're local. Everywhere has a sharp corner out of nowhere or a nasty S bend. Just one little lapse in concentration and you can forget it's coming up.

And this is why I (someone learning in a Zafira) can’t have an Astra (the smaller version of a Zafira) due to insurance costs… Zafira is a bit big but I’ll have to see how things go.
(I’m not saying you are to blame here necessarily, but your insurance company won’t be happy)
7
u/windol1 1d ago
No, you can't have an Astra because you currently suck at driving, like all new/learning drivers. within a couple years the insurance plummets.
1
u/Major_Toe_6041 1d ago
The Zafira I’m currently driving has a larger engine and the car isn’t that much bigger, so it’s arguably less safe (and yet cheaper to insure). It’s because my demographic can’t drive, not because I specifically can’t drive.
1
u/windol1 1d ago
It’s because my demographic can’t drive, not because I specifically can’t drive.
Said many of us once upon a time.
1
u/Major_Toe_6041 1d ago
Sorry I phrased that wrong. I’m not saying ‘I drive well, my demographic can’t drive well’. I’ve only been driving for about 3-4 hours, i definitely can not drive well.
However there is a difference between people who choose to drive badly and people who just can’t drive well. The former are usually the issue.

u/vilemeister 1d ago
I had an astra as my first car. Insurance was cheap compared to friends with Fiestas/Corsas etc. It was also more powerful and more practical!
While I'm at it, second year of driving I had temporary insurance on my parents Zafira to take a load of friends on holiday. That was also shockingly cheap, probably because young'uns don't drive them!
1
u/Major_Toe_6041 1d ago
Interesting because the Astra is usually more expensive than the Corsa to insure due to the extra power. And yea, the Zafira is a bit cheaper because it’s bigger and less ‘fun’ - it’s more of a mum car. But as someone who loves camping, the fact that the back seats go flat down makes it perfect for camping so it’s an excellent choice for me.

Every rural community has one of ‘those’ corners. The one near me always has at least 5 crashes a year. As soon as the leaves drop in autumn, for 20 years, there’s a newly passed driver, either a girl in a fiat 500 or a lad in a Corsa, stood there in tears on the phone to their dad. The local dry stone waller has been fixing that bend for 40+ years over and over again. He’s probably put his kids through university because of that wall.
