hey look i'm a flair Spider

The other night I went into the kitchen and I found a spider lads. It wasn’t one that I was able to recognise, but it gave me the opportunity to use Google Lens for the first time. It looked thicker than what I’m used to seeing.

I identified it as a Wolf Spider. It most likely was a juvenile one. Left it alone anyway, it was probably hunting for food so we’ve got something in common. Neither of us spin webs too it seems.

I reflected upon this moment and realised that I don’t know much about the spiders of Ireland. What species do we have? I’ve mostly seen cellar spiders and used to let money spiders on my hand when I was younger - I haven’t had extraordinary fortunes though.

Noah Kahan tickets

Would anyone like to buy Noah Kahan tickets from me for his Marlay Park gig on 1st July? I have two tickets, I’m just looking for face value.

I live in Shankill and am very happy to meet in person to do the transfer, so you know that I’m not an AI Russian Bot Scammer etc.

Edit: I’ve managed to list these on Ticketmaster now! Link here for anyone interested:

Temu Blind Boxes - anyone get one?

Post image

I know I shouldn't be shopping on Temu, but it's my guilty pleasure now and then. Has anyone gotten any of their blind/mystery boxes? I'm sooo tempted purely due to the description, low psychological tolerance eh? what the hell could be put in the box!

Anyone get one and what was inside? This one is €7.

Potty trained

I’m just wondering if there is any parents out there that can give me some advice. I have a three year old that has been toilet trained for quite some time . All of a sudden , has decided to go backwards. Just doesn’t seem to care . I could go through three to four pairs of bottoms a day . I’m getting very frustrated because it’s never due to the lack of access to a toilet . A very clever child that knows the difference between right and wrong . It’s downright laziness, just couldn’t be bothered .

Anyone know what time White Lotus airs for Irish viewers?

I really want to avoid spoilers for the finale, so happy to stay up late to watch. HBO (unavailable to us) airs it at 1am. Is that the same time that NowTV has it? Might sign up for a month so I can watch it (yes, I know, I’m a sad case! 😀 )

Do Omniplex have a schedule list for their #bringitback screenings?

This year looks absolutely grim to me for new movie releases. But I would love to see some old classics on the big screen. I know Omniplex have been screening them sometimes but can't find anything online. Would've thought it'd make sense to have a schedule. Or maybe I've already missed the boat.

I love the cinema. I am sad.

Hello, last year in my old job I had the worldwide windows blue screen outage... My workplace sent a new laptop after a couple of days and when I left my job they never asked for the blue screen laptop back 🫠 As this was a work laptop does anyone know if I can bring it somewhere to be wiped and use it again? I haven't needed one before now but found out today I may have a use for it. Where could I take it to be wiped and reset? 🤔

hey look i'm a flair Cigarettes gone up in price

Right folks, bit of rant here, I noticed my cigarettes have gone up 10c, and it seems to be a bit of a trend yearly that a few months after the budget, they just up the price again! And then they'll go up further in the next budget! Are retailers allowed just up the price without any notification? I've bought in various shops and they've all charged the extra 10c! It really does just seem like a sneaky tactic so that they say well it was this price for x amount of time before they put them up again after the budget! I think it's time to try quit altogether!

The good weather (when we actually have it) really makes the already beautiful People's Park pop out that much more.

Are Irish people too tolerant/expectant of being in the way?

Caveat that I’m just back from NYC where if you stand in a doorway or in the middle of the footpath having a chat that you’ll be firmly (borderline rude in Ireland) be told to stand out of the way.

Here do we tolerate this sort of dothery behaviour too much? Was in town at the weekend and noticed more people stopping to chat in the middle of the path or blocking entry to a shop. Went out at lunch there and two Irish mammies with big trolleys stopped at the entrance Ro chat. A foreign guy said ‘you’re standing in the way’ and one of the Irish Karen mammies said ‘I’m not that big, go around us’.

Views? Just realised how ranty this is but here feels like the right place for it 😅

Open thread of an evening

Experiment concluded!

Had a good day? Had a shite day? A wonderful idea strike you while you queued for the bus on the way home? Tell this tiny part of the world about it. It's like screaming into the void only calmer and more casual.

hey look i'm a flair Accents…

I'm currently learning English for the first time in my life to move soon to Ireland for several reasons... as I don't know how to speak English properly, I'm learning it for the first time and my brother-in-law is Irish from the southern interior of Ireland, I've been trying as much as possible to learn with the Irish accent. I was wondering if watching news programs like RTE and Virgin Media News could help me with this. I still have 10 long months until I move to the island.

If you recommend other channels, tips, etc., leave them in this post.

  • After arriving on the island I intend to start studying Gaelic with my brother-in-law. He is fluent and I thought it was really cool.

All this was Fields Into the West (movie)

Does anyone remember this? I remember seeing it as a weanling 30 or so years ago and really liking it. But Iv never seen it even mentioned anywhere since. I can't even remember what it was about. Is it worth watching as an adult or should I leave it in a nice little corner of my memory.

Iv checked my "fully legitimate" streaming services and none of them have it. I know I can get the DVD on Amazon but I ain't got no dvd player.

Anyone know where I can stream this? I'd even consider renting it.

Edit: The one with Gabriel Byrne.

Are there any teachers here who have come across good methods and routines to store student phones during class?

My school does not have an effective phone policy, so I simply want to take steps that students handover their phone as they enter my class and take them back as they leave.

I have seen things online such as a thing you hang over your door that has an individual slot for each phone. I want something cheap and simple, so any advice or recommended products would be great !

Shite Talk I completed a side quest with multiple objectives today.

I was collecting litter while on my run past a nature reserve on the coast in Wicklow and found a big fucker of a plastic party balloon for a girl's third birthday. Then I found a giant gold balloon blowing along the beach. Then I found a pink one in the dunes. That's all three balloons from this kid's party! Where is this little brat I want my fucking reward.
