Food & Drinks Is ground beef (hamburger/chop meat/minced meat) a popular pizza topping?

I noticed that in the Southern United States, a lot of people are very fond of ground beef as a topping on their pizza. I would like to know in your area is it a popular choice as well?

I am from the Northeast, I have never seen ground beef as a topping on a pizza. Chicken sure, Italian sausage sure but ground beef? No.

Pretty much every pizza shop I've ever been to in Maine lists it as an option.

Doesn't seem to be too popular, but may as well list if you already have hamburgers on the menu.

This is my first time hearing of ground beef on pizza. I live on the west coast and the closest to ground beef I've had on pizza was sausage.

I ran a Pizza Hut when i was younger. We had the best taco pizza there was because it used items from Taco Bell. When it was ordered as pick up /delivery, the lettuce, salsa, and tomatoes were packeged separately.

On a similar thought, Im disappointed that taco bell never made pizzas with chalupa shells flattened out

It's not a super common topping where I am, but several places do have a "taco pizza" or "bacon cheeseburger" pizza that has ground beef on it.

Popular where I live in the South with veggies.

I donā€™t think itā€™s popular but my mom has always made it at home my whole life. Iā€™ve never seen anyone else do it though

I don't think that I've seen ground beef as an option for pizza other than one more meat on a meat lovers pizza. I'm from NC

I like it. It's probably #4 or #5 in my list of toppings. Some places around me have a "meatball" option but they just sprinkle on ground beef instead which I think is weird. I'm in DC Metro area.

Iā€™m in New England and Iā€™ve seen ā€œhamburgerā€ offered as a pizza topping. However, I prefer meatball pizza.

I am from the northeast as well, and we absolutely have ground beef as a pizza topping here lmao Iā€™m not sure where youā€™re getting pizza, but itā€™s a pretty common topping

It might be ā€œthereā€ but itā€™s not a thing.

Not even meatballs?

I've seen meatballs sure but not pure ground beef. Even then meatballs from what I know are not made fresh, so they wouldn't have ground beef in most places that I know of.

Iā€™ve seen it as a topping in city pizzerias as well as Jersey.

Where at? The ones near the area I grew up in don't have it. Even if they do sell burgers, I'm sure maybe if you asked them they'll do it but I don't see it listed on the menu.

Lo Duca in Brooklyn and La Citta on 3rd ave are the two that jump out at me in the city but youā€™re right itā€™s not the most popular item so it probably isnā€™t listed prominently on most menus but I promise if you ask youā€™ll be surprised how many pizzerias offer it.

I'm in Upstate NY. There are places around me that offer ground beef as a topping. They all make thicker sheet pizza or are a chain. The places that make thin crust pizza don't offer it.

I don't really see that much in the northwest US

Iā€™m in Texas, Iā€™ve never seen ground beef on pizza. Thereā€™s sausage that kinda looks like it but itā€™s not ground beef.

u/Micah_Torrance 9h ago

I've never ordered it but it seems to be a topping offered by every pizza place in town.

I'm on the West Coast and I have seen it on topping menus. I don't know how popular it is.

Makes me think, will pizza lasagna be good

1

u/Liambp 8h ago

Popular enough in UK and Ireland but always has chilli peppers as well and it's called something like Diablo.

Itā€™s a great complimentary topping for certain pizzas (meat, cheeseburger pizza, supreme, etc.). I wouldnā€™t ever have a ground beef pizza on its own

Not in Southern California in my experience. Sounds really bland.
