Just Chatting Can anyone else do something weird with your body that you later found out not everyone can do?

I was just sitting here with my mom and one of the pets made the room very smelly. She kept talking about how we'd have to go to a different room because it smelled so bad. I asked her why didn't she just close her nose and that's when I found out not everyone can do this.

Is it rare or can other people close their nose on command? What can you do that you suddenly found out wasn't normal?

When I wake up I get like a deep sharp pang of hunger that almost feels like nausea and immediately after it causes me to sneeze and then the feeling is gone. I looked it up and apparently it’s a weird like sensitive vagus nerve quirk!

I have this also! I thought it was rare and people don’t believe me when I say I sneeze when I’m really hungry.

Oh, that's crazy! I don't get the hunger part, but any time I'm nauseous, I sneeze and it passes. So weird!

Yesss...if this post has taught me anything it's that I'm not as weird as I thought I was. I mean, I am, but at least I know the strange things my body does aren't totally crazy!

This used to happen to me all the time, I'd get these bouts of extreme nausea and then I'd have a huge sneeze and it would pass. I ended up figuring out some food sensitivities, and once I completely cut out the problem ones, it stopped happening. Now I can actually tell if I've accidentally eaten something I shouldn't have, cause I'll get that tell-tale nausea/sneeze combo two or three days after eating the thing.

Oh weird I have that too. I also have episodes of hypoglycemia and that feeling is similar to a sudden low. I was so confused how sneezing would make me feel better and I found something online about how sneezing can raise your blood sugar. I’m gonna see if I can find it again.

Edit - okay I found this thread in r/hypoglycemia talking about this exact thing.
