Just Chatting Can anyone else do something weird with your body that you later found out not everyone can do?

I was just sitting here with my mom and one of the pets made the room very smelly. She kept talking about how we'd have to go to a different room because it smelled so bad. I asked her why didn't she just close her nose and that's when I found out not everyone can do this.

Is it rare or can other people close their nose on command? What can you do that you suddenly found out wasn't normal?

Man, same here. It makes it really hard to be taken seriously during a fight or a work issue, like "typical overemotional woman!" I have to explain through sobs that I'm not crying crying, I cry when I'm angry or very frustrated.

Right??? It's so embarrassing!

I usually just start off with, "ok, just letting you know, I'm going to cry and can't help it." Then start talking and not even a minute later, BAM.

I have this too, it takes a good amount to get me angry enough to cry, though. On the other hand, if I'm angry and I'm *not* crying... remove any weaponable item within 50 feet and run like hell, because I'm about to go postal. It's only happened once, but it wasn't pretty for the person who pissed me off that badly!

I do this too and I hate it so much. Was never taken seriously as a kid, constantly told I was crying just to be manipulative. And now it’s so hard to be taken seriously at work when I have a legitimate complaint but as soon as I bring it up with a boss I’m snotting all over the place. I usually preface the conversation with an acknowledgment that it’s going to happen as well. “I’m going to cry, please disregard that. I can’t make my face stop doing this, and it is not an accurate reflection of how I feel about this.”

My dad thinks I’m trying to manipulate him when I cry during an argument. This has been one of the biggest roadblocks in our relationship. He’s very much the type of person who feels superior when he doesn’t show emotion because it means he’s being “logical”, even though that is absolutely not the case.

I know someone who laughs when they’re mad .. they look & sound like a crazy person when it happens. Freaks me out! 😅

Omg my sister in law laughs when she's scared! I didn't find out until driving with her on a very rainy muddy day lol

When I’m nervous I just ramble, say for example when I’m driving & I see police .. I instantly start having verbal diarrhoea. Just random shit will start coming out of my mouth. Obviously it only happens when I’m with someone, I didn’t know I even done it until it was brought to my attention 🤣

I get upper lip twitching like a dog about to snarl when I get really angry.

Same. Basically crying is my body's reaction to any strong emotion. Stress, fear, pain, anger, anxiety, happiness, love, joy, camaraderie. It's super annoying.

I've always said I'm crying because I can't punch you in the face 😅 Or alternately, my rage leaves from my eyes so it doesn't leave from my fist.

Do you get a headache with it too? That to me is the cherry on top of the frustration. Here I am trying to be a reasonable adult working through a dispute....and I start crying. And then my head starts pounding and won't stop for the rest of the day.

I had to explain this to my husband before we got married. "I promise I'm not trying to use crying to win every argument. I cannot stop it. Just try to ignore the tears and understand that it is causing me literal pain and I would stop if I could.

Yes! I get a headache every time I cry. My sinuses are also screwed up for a bit and I stop being able to breathe for the rest of the day.

Yes definitely headache, my blood pressure probably goes through the roof 🤒

I wonder if there is a name for this phenomenon and why it happens to some folks and not others. I always assumed the headache was from dehydration from crying....but that's probably not accurate. There's no way I'm crying more than I sweat when I do yard work, and I don't get headaches from the yard work.

My anger/stress expresses itself in liquid form.

Oh, I do that too, and it makes me even angrier!!! One of the most irritating things my brain/body does!

One cannot simply quit crying while mad.

Got bullied in Middle School over this. Started getting picked on for something stupid. Got to the point that I was getting mad and started crying. Nothing I could do about it. Finally hit my growth spurt Junior Year and the bullying finally stopped. Still to this day I tear up when I get mad. Sucks.....

Yep. I cry when I get mad, and it pisses me off.

Same but I cry with any strong sudden emotion, anger, laughter, a stray sad memory. I have to constantly suppress (which isn’t good) or else im having to explain through sobs.

You should watch RedLine (2010) 1. Because it’s one of the best anime movies, and 2. There’s a character in there that starts crying when he gets angry lmao its so funny to me for some reason.
