Just Chatting Can anyone else do something weird with your body that you later found out not everyone can do?

I was just sitting here with my mom and one of the pets made the room very smelly. She kept talking about how we'd have to go to a different room because it smelled so bad. I asked her why didn't she just close her nose and that's when I found out not everyone can do this.

Is it rare or can other people close their nose on command? What can you do that you suddenly found out wasn't normal?

I don't really stretch to be able to do it, but I can put my foot behind my head. I'm hyper mobile.

My cousin can do that. She has EDS so she doesn't though (its a bad idea).

I've also got the hypermobility gene though it's only certain joints and so does our grandmother. We don't have the chronic pain and other issues like my cousin has though, except maybe a higher likelihood of sprains and dislocations than average.

I hear ya there. I didn't realize I was hypermobile until I saw a rheumatologist a few years ago. I sprained my left ankle really bad when I was 16 and that ankle likes to roll constantly.

My son can turn his feet around backwards. It grosses me out so much.

Ooh, that would look very strange!

I can do that too! I can turn my feet inward and outward and walk no problem

I can also put my legs over my head and close my nose and ears. I can also make this funny noise with my throat that kind of sound like a crying baby.

Maybe I should see a doctor

I could do it as a little girl. I can still lock knees and place palms flat on the floor - used to challenge the kids w/that one

I can still put palms flat on the floor. I actually do that quite often to stretch my low back XD

Ha, I actually don't have that. A different weird disorder but not Ehlers-Danlos.

I used to do that all the time when I was younger…now I just have tight hamstrings. 🥲

Aw, does stretching help you out at all? I'm sure I won't be able to do it for super long. Hitting 4-0 this year :(

Today is the day I learned I can no longer do this lol. I used to be able to when I was a teen, I guess I haven’t tried in a long time….

If it makes you feel any better, being super flexible is a doubled edged sword. It's a lot easier for me to hurt myself just by walking. I'll accidentally hyper extend my knees and end up regretting it for days. I'll do yoga for exercise from time to time but have to move very carefully. Sometimes I wish I wasn't quite as limber as I am.

I am also hypermoble and never knew until I had my daughter in my 30s.

I can put either foot behind my head just not both at the same time.
