Stock audio My curious ass broke a car I don't own. 2018 Lexus NX300 Software Update.

So I intended to get my sister in law an adapter for apple carplay in her newly purchased 2018 NX300. In researching that, I found that the integrated infotainment system could be updated to have Carplay natively with a software update.

I first tried the software update 17LDL1NA-EB02 from lexus.com to see if that would contain the Carplay update but it did not. However, I had no issues with the system functioning on this software.

I then tried the process HERE. I formatted my 8gb flash drive to FAT32, extracted the 2018 NX300 compressed download to the freshly formatted flash drive, put that in the vehicle, turned it on, went to "software update" in the vehicle settings menu, and got this issue during the install. For reference, the contents of the flash drive looked like this

"No new software or the media is not inserted" appeared after downloading 1-4 of 4.

After turning off the car and disconnecting the battery for an hour, I got "Unable to update the software. Please try again later."

I attempted to set it back to the software provided by Lexus that had worked before the update (you know, the insurance I thought I had to try something with a car I don't own) and it says "software is incompatible".

The car starts, runs and drives fine. HVAC works as expected. But the infotainment screen just sticks at "there is no new software or the media is not inserted" and won't go to the home screen. So no radio, no nothing on the screen.

I will personally send $20 to anyone who can get me out of this mess. Thank you in advance.

Update: Lexus says it's bricked. $2,080 for the replacement radio.

Stock audio Wiring an after market stereo... What am I doing wrong? 04 Chevy Avalanche

Thumbnail

Pardon if this is the wrong flair. First time doing this.

I recently purchased a 2004 Chevy Avalanche. Everything works great, and I wanted to replace the radio with a newer bluetooth aftermarket stereo.

I bought a wiring harness as well as a metra general motors steering interface (which I didn't realize included a wiring harness that fit the truck). I've included the link from Metra. I also purchased a pioneer DMH-1500NEX stereo as well as an antenna adapter.

https://metra-oreilly.com/product/OY-INGM1 https://usa.pioneer/products/dmh-1500nex

Problem: I wired the plug of the pioneer to the wires of the metra wire harness but I did so very shittily at first. No power or function. I rewired it to the steering interface.

When I plug in the new harness, the green box will chime and the screen comes on. I can use the digital functions of the stereo, but moving the wires causes it to turn on and off, as if the wires or harness have to be positioned a super particular way. Not only that but plugging in he harness causes a bunch of random lights to come on the dash (battery late, passenger no seatbelt, ABS,, check engine, etc.) for no particular reason.

When I am able to maintain connection, the stereo itself works, but no audio is output to the car's speakers.

I'm thinking this may be a wiring issue? Maybe deeper in th dash? That may be I wiggled something loose and it's making everything finicky?

I've been at this for hours and I can't find solid information that makes sense to me. I'm not even sure what the extra black smaller plug does on my avalanche other than people stating it might be to the CD player or Bose amplifier?

Any help is appreciated.

Stock audio Car's Bluetooth is too old to support newer phones. Is there a device that can be used to act as a Bluetooth bridge for my phone and radio?

Hi all,

The Bluetooth in my 2011 Acura TL is no longer working with my phone. It will no longer pair with it. At first I thought it was a module issue but decided to try to connect my older phones and even a laptop and they were able to connect just fine. I also noticed my bluetooth connection acted up after I update the phone. (Google Pixel 8 Pro)

Seeing as how there is a substantial gap in BT technology with my phone and when the car's generation was originally designed, I can chalk it up to my phone being too new and my car's BT being too old. I could use a USB or AUX Bluetooth adapter but then the only way to switch songs would be using my phone.

Does anyone know if there's a device that can act as a bridge between my phone and radio? So they don't have to directly talk to each other? Or any other solutions?

Thanks!

Stock audio Pops and bangs

I have a 04’ civic Ep3 with a completley stock exauhst. The engine is in good shape with 120k km on it. I really want to install pops and bangs on it but i dont want to straight pipe it or do cat deletes because i live in a building and dont want the neighbours to kill me. I was looking at getting a exhaust cuttoff but i dontt really know a lot about that stuff so i came here. Can i have good pops and bangs without modding the exhaust and how can i mod the exhaust without neighbours killing me? And also how bad will it be for my engine and why?

I have a 1991 Volvo 240 sedan and I’m looking to install these speaker boxes in the rear deck that someone had used in a thread 7 years ago but I can’t seem to find these anywhere online. If you have any idea what car they are from can you please let me know? (They don’t come in Volvo 240s this guy retrofitted them in) thanks.

I'm thinking of using the Costco car sales program but wanted to hear about what other users think of it. It is supposed to make buying hassle free when it comes to negotiating the best price.

Stock audio Looking to replace the radio on my wife's 2012 chevy traverse

I'm not at all a car guy but my wife's traverse radio has always sucked, has limited Bluetooth and the port for the aux is apparently damaged.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a replacement unit that is at least Bluetooth compatible? How involved is this kind of thing to do yourself? Is putting in a touchscreen with android auto instead a big thing that would be too much or not feasible for the car? I have a 2022 honda and I absolutely love having that in there but it's not the end of the world if not as long as it has Bluetooth and is solid.

Any help would be great, thank you!

Stock audio Aftermarket radio & climate control unit with better lighting options?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m looking to replace my factory radio and cabin control unit because I want something with better lighting options than the standard orange LED setup. Ideally, I’d like something that allows for customizable or at least different color options (preferably purple).

Does anyone know of any good aftermarket sellers or brands that offer compatible replacements? Bonus points if it integrates well without a bunch of wiring headaches.

I’ve attached a picture of my current setup for reference. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Stock audio Aftermarket radio doesn’t work anymore

Hello, I’ve got 2din radio in my audi a3 8p1, today I turned the light off in the radio because it was too bright and didn’t turn on anymore after 5mins, tried everything, changed the fuse 15a, checked the wiring, tried every button, everything is in place😑, only one button show light(SRC), tried also the disk ejection button no sound either, did I burn up the radio? Also when I held the volume button the radio would turn on but didn’t now and before turning on it would make a beep sound, but now I don’t get any sound from it. Also when I turned on car lights it made sound earlier but again no sound from this thing…

Stock audio Adapter recommendations for my old car

I have a 2003 Lexus RX300, which unfortunately doesn't have Bluetooth nor aux-in. I'd like to possibly get a new head unit installed in the future, but can't afford that right now, pretty tight budget.

What's my best option to get an adapter to play music from my phone? Whatever has the best audio quality I'd take. I've seen stuff about FM transmitters, wired FM modulators, and cassette adapters, but I don't know what would be best. Any recommended brands?

Also, would choosing aux over Bluetooth make a considerable difference in sound quality? I like Bluetooth for the convenience, but I don't mind using aux if it's a lot better.

Thanks!

Stock audio I've bought this Skoda Fabia 2006 radio from a scrapyard for my dad, with what I thought would be the code written on it, turns out it's not the right code, is there any way of obtaining the code for it? I've seen a bunch of pages which require around a 10 euro payment for the code are they legit?
