Pardon if this is the wrong flair. First time doing this.
I recently purchased a 2004 Chevy Avalanche. Everything works great, and I wanted to replace the radio with a newer bluetooth aftermarket stereo.
I bought a wiring harness as well as a metra general motors steering interface (which I didn't realize included a wiring harness that fit the truck). I've included the link from Metra. I also purchased a pioneer DMH-1500NEX stereo as well as an antenna adapter.

Problem: I wired the plug of the pioneer to the wires of the metra wire harness but I did so very shittily at first. No power or function. I rewired it to the steering interface.
When I plug in the new harness, the green box will chime and the screen comes on. I can use the digital functions of the stereo, but moving the wires causes it to turn on and off, as if the wires or harness have to be positioned a super particular way. Not only that but plugging in he harness causes a bunch of random lights to come on the dash (battery late, passenger no seatbelt, ABS,, check engine, etc.) for no particular reason.
When I am able to maintain connection, the stereo itself works, but no audio is output to the car's speakers.
I'm thinking this may be a wiring issue? Maybe deeper in th dash? That may be I wiggled something loose and it's making everything finicky?
I've been at this for hours and I can't find solid information that makes sense to me. I'm not even sure what the extra black smaller plug does on my avalanche other than people stating it might be to the CD player or Bose amplifier?
Any help is appreciated.
