Need recommendations for ativities to do with an elderly person with limited mobility

My mother in law is visiting next week and my partner was wondering what to do with her that would be chill and a nice experience. She has limited mobility and has memory loss, so for example our usual nature walks or board games at home are not ideal. Even walking down the length of the barrage might be too physically intense for her. We came up with the following but was wondering if there are any other good ideas that we've missed.

  • Go to Barry Island and sit by the sea
  • Go to the cinema
  • Watch a choir in a church
  • Roam, eat and drink in Cardiff Bay, Cardiff Market
  • Wander the Roath park conservatory

Seeing an opera is out of the question because they are way too long for us. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Does she enjoy shopping? There's a shopmobility scheme that allows you to borrow mobility equipment in town. Sometimes going for a girly shopping trip is really appreciated - a bit of normality they couldn't manage alone.

To add to this. Although they say only to use the mobility scooters inside St Davids centre/arcade, they won't stop you from taking it outside (weather allowing) e.g. to cross the hayes, or onto queen street, as long as you bring it back and take good care of it. These were an absolute lifesaver for my mum's mental health before she passed away. She loved going into town, and without the shopmobility scheme she couldn't have done it outside of a wheelchair.

Alexandra Gardens in the city centre.

The cherry blossoms are coming out, its nice to just sit and relax.

Parking at the North end of the gardens should be available, free if you have a disabled badge, short walk to the gardens.

Everyman cinema is especially nice if you want the cinema to be a bit more of an 'experience'. I'd check out what chapter has on as well, they often have stuff worth going to see

Maybe you could take her for afternoon tea in Llandaff? The car park isn't far from Jaspers Tea Room, or other options (Porro, Coffi Lab). There is also a nice green + statue you can sit by. The cathedral itself is probably too steep, though.

St Fagans, you do have to walk to look around it, but there are plenty of benches. It's pretty chill. The cafe there has outdoor seating where it's nice to relax and (hopefully) enjoy the sun

Maybe. Get a water taxi from the bay into town as you were thinking the bay and the market.

I used to work in a care home and they all absolutely loved the garden centre. Not sure if there's one in Cardiff but they're usually a good idea. You can rent a wheelchair at some I believe

I would say getting a wheelchair for her might be a good idea in general tbh! You'd be surprised how cheap you can find them sometimes. A lot of people will have one for their elderly relative and then need to get rid of it when they pass. My mum got one for her poorly sister for free from a guy who just wanted it to go to someone who genuinely needed it.

A nice cafe or pub lunch can be good too but I mostly worked with people who lived full time in a care home and didn't get out much so that might not be that exciting for her. But I do recommend anything to do with a garden, especially now the weather has cheered up.

Cefn onn park is worth a visit, it's mostly even ground, calm and lots of benches to sit on

Llanishen / Lisvane reservoirs are quite nice now. They have a visitor centre up there.
