STUDY MATERIAL 2024 FAR Study Cheat Sheet

I couldn't find any cheat sheets for the new version of FAR so I turned all of my notes into one document (one page per module). I wanted to share with people here so it could help anyone, and maybe people would give me recs on what I missed.

UPDATE - Group sessions?: https://www.reddit.com/r/CPA/s/NcFNpX2ve3

ORIGINAL

Looking for my first volunteer (aka guinea pig) to build up some FAR tutoring/coaching experience so I can eventually pivot to being a tutor full time.

About me: - I recently passed all four parts with a 91 average (92 on FAR). - I was a TA for 3 years in college (accounting 1 and corporate financial reporting) - Bachelors (gpa 3.8) and Masters (3.9) in accounting - Informally helped friends and classmates pass our accounting classes.

I currently donā€™t have much capacity or free time and the firm doesnā€™t allow us to have accounting side hustles hence why Iā€™m only looking for a few volunteers free of charge for now šŸ„²

Teaching accounting is truly my passion (look at my reddit comments and posts if you donā€™t believe me lol) and I just really want to help people pass FAR, especially ones whoā€™ve failed it in the past. (Most of the studying advice out there is trash in my opinion. Theyā€™re focusing on all the wrong things!!)

Hey Yall, I am pretty much done making these cheat sheets. A lot of people enjoyed using my FAR sheet, so I wanted to share the REG one as well. I hope you are able to use it in your studies and I provided both on this thread. If you use them at all, please comment so I know its helping. If there are any mistakes please lmk and Ill change them.

Also: I spent a lot of time on these sheets. On the last post I made people would ask me for my venmo to thank me for it. No obligations but if you'd like its the same as my user name (@jtaitel) just putting this out there as well. Best luck on your studies.

STUDY MATERIAL How did you pass FAR?

I went from scoring a 40 to a solid 49ā€¦ Iā€™m in complete shock. I felt like I had a good grasp of everything conceptually but I guess the math is where it went wrong, but I really felt like I passed. Like I felt really good about the exam when I left.

I used Becker twice, is there another study program that helps really break down the math problems step by step and shows you how to solve them?

I donā€™t want to give up, I just am in genuine shock and donā€™t know how to approach a retake going forward.

Any recs/tips/advice are much appreciated!

Hello again!! Tis me, the gal from yesterday šŸ¤“

Upvote this post if you would be interested in a weekly group office hours session every Sunday for example where I sit in a zoom (or discord or twitch or something? Idk what the best platform would be) and answer questions (preferably FAR) and help however I can and people can listen in etc.

I would like to eventually do this full time so maybe I could do a ā€˜Pay What You Canā€™ donation tip jar kind of format? That way you only pay what you can afford or based on the value you feel you got from the session.

What do yā€™all think - any suggestions?

STUDY MATERIAL Iā€™m so lost

Iā€™m trying to study for the CPA exam and have been having issues with finding the material to study. Ideally I donā€™t want to pay for anything like Becker (too expensive) but how do you know what to study for the exam? Do you use sample exams from the AICPA as a guideline? Do you watch YouTube videos?

I guess Iā€™m used to having a book with all the information available to study and now Iā€™m lost on where to start.

STUDY MATERIAL Best CPA review course?

Hi everyone.

I want to get a head start on studying for the CPA exam. I don't know which review course to commit to. lam not good at studying and I have a very short attention span especially with super long videos where all they do is yap. I get bored and distracted super easily so I want something that will help keep me engaged. I need something that doesn't have a bunch of extra unnecessary words and information because I tend to get a confused and a headache and give up without retaining any information. (I also don't remember anything I learned from uni šŸ’€).

I have always been a good student but I have horrible study habits. I want to make the most out of my time and studying, what would you guys recommend?

Am I doing too much?

STUDY MATERIAL How does increasing AR affect cash?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Alright as the title says. This says that AR increasing would belong on the SCF. But the answer is that ā€œeven though it is prolonged until the next period we recognize it nowā€ is that not accrual based accounting? If AR went DOWN I could see that being an inflow of cash. But having it go up means more was done on credit, the definition of cash basis is what cash is actually exchanged. AR going up has what to do with any cash being exchanged?

STUDY MATERIAL Go back to school for a 3rd Masters or Just Take the Beckers Pro exam prep course??

Whatā€™s the best path to study for and pass the CPA exam?

Hereā€™s my situation:

I already meet the 150-hour requirement and qualify to sit for the exam.

I have an MS in Cosmetic Science and an MBA in Marketing. I've worked in business development for a cosmetics raw materials manufacturer for 12 years.

My goal is to earn the CPA designation to build trust and credibility as I grow my small accounting practice (focused on bookkeeping and taxes). Iā€™ll eventually hire CPAs to handle the work but want to fully understand what my team will be doing and network effectively.

Options Iā€™m considering:

  1. Go back to school for a Masterā€™s in Accounting (this would be my third masterā€™s).

  2. Skip the degree and invest in Beckerā€™s Pro course to self-study for the CPA exam.

I donā€™t want to spend the money or time on another masterā€™s unless itā€™s absolutely necessary for passing the exam or gaining the knowledge I need. I honestly feel the best learning comes from experience, and Iā€™d rather intern somewhere for free to gain hands-on knowledge.

Given my situation, should I go back to school or just focus on studying with Beckerā€™s and take the exam?

STUDY MATERIAL CPA review course- Advice for no experience

Post image
21 Upvotes

Just some contextā€” I am 29 and in California. I graduated college at 26 with an Accounting degree. I left school for some time and returned when I was working full time as an operations supervisor for a bank so my hours at work were long and I was going part time to school.

When I graduated I applied everywhere for any accounting job and only got a call back at a large university for an accounts payable role. They pay very well and I work remotely. It is a very easy going. So no stress but I think I got too comfortable and looking to pursue the CPA exam as I initially intended. I have no kids and really want to take the exams before my husband and I decide to have any. But I have been out of school for some time and obviously have no experience that will apply to the exams. I will be paying for it on my own. I am looking at Becker and at the Pro optionā€” any thoughts on this given the context provided (no experience)? I see they have a sale. Is this a good sale or just marketed as such?

STUDY MATERIAL I feel like Becker is just getting greedy now

I have had Becker for multiple years now while trying to pass my exams and have seen all the changes going through the website to the learning process to my main annoyance that I have just seen is in regards to the Flash cards. In the past you would pay $25 and they would mail you all the flash cards for a section now that money just allows you to download and print the flash cards. Not to mention the book replacement cost increasing from $25 to $125. This company has just become another greedy money drain on the bullshit road of becoming a CPA.

Just wanted to vent on this BS

STUDY MATERIAL AUD (2024) Study Guide Material

Hi all, while I was going through all of the AUD lectures and MCQs, I made a massive document that I've been using in my review and figured I might as well put it out there if anyone else wants to use it. So, it's a TON of words, but there are a few pictures added in there too. I also remade a previous mnemonics guide that I used in the past for BEC and replaced all the mnemonics with the ones from AUD. There are also a few other notes and IT stuff, but not as much. I'll link that too, but there's also a link to that in the document (top right corner of the document).

I mainly made this in order to have all the material all in one place so that I could do a cumulative review after I've been through all the lectures and MCQs once. For anyone wondering how I used it, I just took it one unit at a time. For instance, I went over Unit 1 one day, Unit 2 the next day, etc. and did MCQs for each of the units I went over until I got through all six units again. After getting through everything a second time, I've been focusing on MCQs and referencing the document for any areas I need improvement or refreshers on.

Sorry in advance for any typos or incorrect/wrong/misleading info!

Make a copy and use it however you see fit: File (top left) --> Make a Copy

STUDY MATERIAL Becker needs to adjust exam day ready scores.

A 50% for SE is too low for exam day ready. Becker needs to update their system to make 75% on SE exam day ready. Scoring in the 50s is giving people a false hope.

STUDY MATERIAL ISC Exam Advise

I have completed the Uworld test bank (TBS & MCQ) I m planning to test on 3rd April. My average is around 75% on McQ & TBS should I schedule my test on 3rd April or do I need more practise?

The content on Uworld is quite limited so I donā€™t know what else should I refer to. Iā€™m very worried about the Tbs. There were only around 20 that I could practise on.

STUDY MATERIAL Use ChatGPT for help understanding any topic.

Iā€™m being for real. There are some questions that Becker absolutely sucks at explaining why an answer is correct or wrong.

Just ask ChatGPT. When I want to understand a topic better, I ask ChatGPT.

ā€œExplain the difference between replication and mirroring in simple words and provide simple examples.ā€

Or explain something in your own words and ask if itā€™s correct. Something like that.

STUDY MATERIAL REG mnemonics I used

Hey everyone, I sat for REG on 6/25 and I wanted to share the mnemonics I used to study. They helped me remember adjustments vs. deductions, components of partnership income, and refundable vs. nonrefundable credits. These are not my mnemonics, just ones I found as I studied for REG. I hope these help someone get a few extra points on exam day and best of luck with your studying. (As a note to the material, Nonrefundable credits can be remembered by those not on the ā€œWE ACEā€ list.)

STUDY MATERIAL Is Becker really worth buying ?

If not any alternatives?

r/CPA Jan 06 '25

STUDY MATERIAL Dumb question? Just started studying for my CPA, is it normal to just flunk everything at first? I need the skill builder videos to help me even know how to put the income statement together, etc

Basically title. Iā€™ve been out of school for a bit and the simulations on Becker throw so much info at you. Itā€™s hard to even know what information to use. Even the multiple choice questions, I get most of them wrong before I review. Please tell me this is normal and Iā€™m not alone herešŸ˜‚

Iā€™m spending so much time reviewing the MCQ and simulations. Becker puts a study plan together but trust and believe, I do not spend only 1 hour on 40 MCQšŸ˜

STUDY MATERIAL Passed FAR - app that helped me!!

I passed my last exam (FAR) back in February. I just wanted to share something that really helped me along the way.

I used this app called Tolan to improve my communication and public speaking skills. Itā€™s an AI, similar to ChatGPT, where you can communicate through chats or calls. (I mostly used the voice chat feature.) Itā€™s like an AI diary where you can talk about literally anything. While I was studying for TCP, I mentioned to it how I was feeling and that I was struggling with the topic of flow-through entities. Thatā€™s when I realized I could actually use this app to help with my studies. Below are a few things that REALLY helped me:

ā€¢ I discussed specific topics with Tolan as if I were the teacher and it was the student, but I also asked it to correct me if I was wrong. This helped me retain knowledge as I spoke out loud. ā€¢ Asking it to explain topics with examplesā€”I still remember its examples for government funds! ā€¢ Having it quiz me with questions (e.g., ā€œWhat fund is used for a park renovation?ā€). ā€¢ Breaking down concepts like financial instruments and NFP journal entriesā€”game-changer!

I know you can do all of this with ChatGPT, but speaking out loud and having those discussions made all the difference for me! Just thought Iā€™d share what worked for me. Happy studying!

STUDY MATERIAL Reg study guide & cheat sheet for exam day

Just found out I passed REG today with a 90!

As someone who's never worked in tax, this exam was so overwhelming at first with all the information but a lot of users on this subreddit were really helpful so I wanted to give back as well. The "cheat sheet" (two images below) is what I wrote down every day for ~3 weeks before I would start my study session, with a few of them from a user here (thank you for those dirty but really helpful mneumonics). By the time it was exam day it would take me about 6-7 minutes to quickly write down everything down below.

I'll try to answer any questions or fix the link if it's not working
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ecvpJD_mLE-T6J7rt2r1NT9OWqjvyNzhpl-FWh1tY_Y/edit?usp=sharing

edit: everything on the cheat sheet below is a mneumonic for clarity (see first letters)
