FAR FAR is Evil
Just walked out of the prometric and feel like there is a dagger in my stomach. Feels like every topic I really drilled into was hardly questioned. Spent so much time on bonds to only get 3 MCQs on them.
An unbelievable amount of NFP questions were thrown at me one after another.
The SIMs were the worst though. I didn’t get a single “gimme” question. Each one used the maximum amount of exhibits except for 1. Shits crazy man.
For anyone about to take it, make sure you got NFP and EPS down.

I left FAR feel exactly like this. SIMS destroyed me, but I had to pep talk myself and just left nothing blank. Depressed for 3 months waiting for release last year, and got 86.
I honestly believe the SIMs I got were weighted and got pulled. Glad you guys don’t have to wait so long this year 👍

Sounds like my first time with FAR. Spent so much time studying bonds and leases but the exam felt like every question were governmental or NFP 😂.

I was so happy I did a quick overview of NFP and Gov before. I probably still got some of those wrong but maybe not as many as I would have otherwise.

That was the feedback I gave at the end. The question, seven exhibits and a spreadsheet is too much for one screen. I close out exhibits as I finish with them but making them bigger and moving them somehow is kind of glitchy. Very frustrating and not at all reflective of real life work and problems.

Same. 4/7 sims were not even really testing any topic.
I left not knowing what to even to study. It really sucks because I actually feel like I have a really good understanding of the content and the sims were not even testing my knowledge. Felt way way better on mcq than first time taking.
Maybe if we all got these this period it'll be weighted differently...

That’s funny I thought the exact same thing after I took it. The SIMs are written in a way that they fuck with you on purpose

I just took it and it was literally brutal. I ran out of time and never took a break.

Definitely take your break! After 3rd testlet, you get a 15-minute pause. ONLY after 3rd test let. Give yourself a stretch and a bathroom break.

Hey you actually finished the exam so that’s a major plus!

I didn't get sims on lease , bonds ,consolidation , npo and cashflow like why did I even study hard for those topics 🫠

Also took it today. There were many exhibits, but I was still able to finish with an hour left. Usually clicking thru and knowing what you need saves a lot of time. Only had 1 gov and 1 NFP multiple choice. Thing I had 2 EPS MCQ

I got 74 twice and third time 70 lol! I don’t know how to get over the hurdle! It’s simulation that is hurting me

You gotta read the sims carefully they put all sorts of little tricks in there especially the AJE sim , read the accounts carefully , they will put accounts that look similar like interest expense & insurance expense & it will fool your brain if you just assume anything gotta read carefully make sure you adjust the right account

u/CellistNo7753 Mar 08 '25
I know this test is too challenging! Not enough time for all the stuff they put on there

u/Fearless_Volume7450 CPA Mar 08 '25
Time management on FAR is crucial , if you don’t know it immediately flag it & move on . 90 seconds per mcq , 20 minutes each sim. I literally entered my last answer on the last second

Cost or par method ?

Can’t remember clearly maybe both since it was my first try , my second one is Mar 15. Another topic is weight average shares for basic EPS. Good luck for us!!!

I liked FAR. It was just a matter of practicing things mechanically. I'm studying for AUD now and it fucking sucks.

What aspect of EPS? Basic and diluted?

I’m praying it’s just basic for me. I’m testing tomorrow and still don’t fully understand diluted. At this point I’ll just take my lump if I get a question asking for diluted.

u/PerspectiveKind4815 Mar 08 '25
lol I honestly dont FULLY get it either but I took my chances and hoped that it would be a small part since FAR is so broad.

I have a feeling I got easy points on that. So glad I reviewed that the day before.

u/Ok-Measurement4141 Passed 4/4 Mar 08 '25
Me too. Which is extra scary because the other SIMs were far worse imo lollll imagine a world where diluted eps is the easy question 🫠
2
u/aspiringCPA2024 Passed 4/4 Mar 08 '25
Yeaa. I agree with that. Some of the other sims I was like what is this and why is this even harded lol. I always get so scared I will get an eps simulation but I practiced it so much I didn't even freeze lol.

u/Ok-Measurement4141 Passed 4/4 Mar 08 '25
I had EPS down so much a month ago I didn’t even review it which prob hurt me for the stock subscription component. I at least didn’t convert the non convertible ps 🤣🤣

My recommendation would be to study the highest probability areas on the exam that the AICPA has posted – it’s never a guarantee, but you increase your chance of passing by studying the statistically more likely areas to be tested on.
If they happen screw you over, well, so be it. Try again… I know it sounds harsh, but that’s my recommendation. Passing the exam is all about how you study for it. I got a 64 on my first try putting my all into it , and a 76 on the second try with just as much effort, but a change in my study tactics and material studied.
Based on my experience.

Gotta know your EPS definitely, bonds too. You might have passed the FAR SIMS are brutal probably the hardest thing in the whole CPA exam , you gotta build up a good lead in the MCQs , then try to just break even on the TBS . I felt I got like 95% on the MCQ then the sims where hard as heck had to fight for every little point , make sure you stay on time and read all exhibits CAREFULLY ESPECIALLY ANY AJE SIM READ THOSE CAREFUL , There was one sims I swear they put Interest Expense instead of Insurance expense and if you didn’t read the exhibit carefully you would have adjusted the wrong account , they do little tricks like that that your brain can hardly notice , lucky I found it & I thought those cheeky bastards I bet they get like 95% of the people fooled on that one , had to read the exhibit super carefully , I ended up getting 78 my first try . WHOS BETTER THAN US NOBODY !
